I don’t know about this stuff so I ask.

Is there one vaccine now made by one company that every country has? Or maybe different companies with the same vaccine? Or are there many different vaccines in different countries?

I don’t mean this in an unkind way, but you might just try Google.

Anyway, my understanding is there are several companies who have developed (or are in the final stages of developing) a vaccine. So, yes, different vaccines.

There are several vaccines produced by different companies seeking approval in various countries.

So different countries could end up with different success rates?

No offence but I guess most people including myself do this first. You end up with loads of jargon that a layman like myself cannot understand.
I’m not saying go look at the medical journals. I mean just like news articles written for laymen.

Well, actually, I would not say “most people”.

I mean the info is in the news every day regarding what pharma companies have a vaccine, where they are in the approval process, what countries have vaccines or what countries the pharma companies are seeking approval in.

I don’t come to CAF for this sort of info.

As far as I know, all four vaccines give the body a very very mild inoculation with COVID-19 fragments, and this causes the body to respond by producing antibodies to the “invader.” These antibodies will stick around for a time (not sure how long for each vaccine?) and provide protection from the “whole” COVID-19 virus.

From what I understand, the vaccine is definitely not a “one-time-you’re-good-for-a-lifetime” vaccine (like polio). It will be like the influenza vaccines that we have to get annually, and some of us are thinking more than annually (mainly because natural immunity in those who have had COVID-19 only seems to last for a few months).

At least one of the COVID-19 vaccines has to be given in two inoculations within a few days (?) of each other. I’m not sure how successful this version will be, as many people will probably skip that second shot because that’s the way people are–they get busy and keep putting it off. I’m guessing this will probably result in what some will call a “vaccine failure”, but that really isn’t true–if a med is not used correctly, we can’t expect it to be efficacious.

Apparently the vaccine (not sure if all four of the versions) sometimes gives people “mild” symptoms–fever, aches, tiredness. But it only lasts for a day or so, and many people don’t have this reaction.

As for different countries having different success rates–I think it will depend on the compliance of the country’s people rather than the efficacy of the vaccine. The vaccine has been tested on all races in many countries, so it should work on everyone. But…there will no doubt be bumps in the road.

At this point, what is the alternative? I don’t want to live the rest of my life (I’m 63) wearing an uncomfortable mask that constantly fogs my glasses. I want to return to going to concerts, plays, theater–this is my older daughter’s LIFE (she is an entertainment professional). I want to return to going out to eat and sitting in a crowded restaurant. I want to go to the gym and work out with my pilates instructor. I want to go to country fairs and flea markets and sporting events (especially ice skating!). I want to travel and be able to stay in hotels and go to local attractions.

I want to go to CHURCH and sit with lots of other people and SING SING SING!!!

And I don’t want people to die when they are much too young, or be horribly sick and spend days or longer in a hospital (like my husband).

If a vaccine gives us the ability to live our lives LARGE again, then I’ll take the vaccine as often as necessary! This tiny tiny life is awful.

Just a word–as a Christian, I do realize that our lives are much bigger than we can see. If we are praying people, we are influencing literally millions of people through our prayers, and if we are able to be giving people, we can influence many people in very practical ways.

If we are raising children or grandchildren, we are shaping the next generation and we may be raising a priest, a sister, a deacon, a church worker, a scientist, a musician, a doctor, a saint.

Every act we do, even the most humble acts like sanitzing a bathroom or preparing a grilled cheese sandwich, is an act of faith and love to God.

HE sees our entire lives, not just 2020.

So yes, we live a large life in the Eyes of God.

But because we are human, we long for our lives the way we’ve always known them.

Or are there many different vaccines in different countries?
There have been many research programs developing vaccines by different approaches.

The traditional approach is to inject us with a weakened or dead virus which trains our immune system to defend us from the real virus. Some countries are developing this sort of vaccine.

There is also a new approach called RNA vaccine. The RNA is like an instruction set for cells in our own body to make special proteins like the ones in the virus. These proteins train our immune system to defend our body from the virus.

I have to ask, out of curiosity, are you asking about “one vaccine” with the idea that this would be “the mark of the beast,” that all people would be forced to bear? I wouldn’t be surprised if people are looking for a connection like that, but I assure you that vaccines are not, and will never be, the mark of the beast.

There are at least three companies that have developed a vaccine.

UK has received their shipment of vaccines and is planning to roll out this week or next (heard this on the news, it might change)

US hasn’t established their roll out time yet, but I’ve heard everything from December to Spring.

Not quite. There’s no part of the virus in the vaccine at all, and that way we can guarantee you can’t get Covid. It’s a new method of vaccination that works differently but is much more reliable.

It is likely that there will be several different vaccines used within one country as it all depends upon how fast the companies are able to produce and deliver the vaccines. Remember that almost every country has placed preorders, if vaccine is approved by national medical agencies, to different producers.

Two US (pfizer and moderna), one UK “almost there”, and dozens still in development or testing.

And both Russia and China are injecting people with something that may or may not actually be a vaccine, or work or protect at all, but each of which is more effective than the other, let alone all produced by western science . . .

Without a doubt. Russia has a vaccine. So does the US, Europe and probably China. I am certain that Japan is working on one. I seem ro recall that South Korea is also in the game.

There are many ways of killing a virus. The problem with vaccines and their development is that their point is to trigger the patient’s immune system to produce antibodies which will recognize and kill the virus when they come into contact with it.

A challenge is to produce a weakened or fragmentary form of the virus which is close enough to the original so that it will trigger the immune system.

According to the WHO, there are 172 nations involved at various levels of vaccine development and production.

Our tiny life should produce huge prayer, fasting and almsgiving as appropriate. If, say, we come to the point where we rely strictly on science, our spiritual lives will suffer. No way around that.
