If the police are abolished, who do you call during a home invasion robbery? Criminals are not very cooperative.

You’ll find that even mice turn on each other when the population gets dense. We, unlike mice, are better at learning to live with each other not only more or less in peace but in a way that leads to culture and civilization.
That’s true. But when it comes to peace I don’t worry about the ‘more’, I worry about the ‘less’.

The one thing that war has taught us is how to kill each other more effectively.

The sad fact is that Fields is correct.

The Police. Abolish the police doesn’t mean you stop there. Camden, NJ is a prime example. They disbanded their police department and then rebuilt a completely new police department with a different mandate, training, etc… that focuses on trying to prevent the issues that the old department had been riddled with. And it’s had the added benefit of halving their crime rate.

I was just reading another thread about “Gone with the Wind” which you might be interested in. GWTW might soon be GWTW.

Let’s not be naive. @adamhovey1988 has a valid point. Nobody wants to have the Guard or Military deployed on our streets. It’s an escalation that can have tragic consequences. Remember Kent State 1970?

People should be careful what they wish for. One way or another, the law will be enforced.

You probably know that the Celts were pushed to the west of Europe -
ie Scotland, Isle of Man, Western Ireland , Wales , Brittany, Cornwall . My family originated in the west of Ireland. I grew up in Dublin and studied Irish history in school. I remember learning about the Tuthaw de Danaan . They were around about two thousand years ago

Calls for abolishing the police are yet another reason why it’s getting harder to harder to remain a democrat now.

Then you may well be of the Auteini. They were a west of Ireland people. I have a daughter and grandson in Dublin. Nice city, but a wee bit pricey! I’m rather fond of the Irish…except when they beat us in the Six Nations. But, as someone once said: ‘You don’t defeat the Welsh, you simply score more points!’ 😄

If police are eliminated, who will be called in cases of domestic abuse?
According to the Minneapolis City Council President, being able to call the police when our houses are being broken into is a “place of privilege”

It’s not “abolish the police”, It’s “defund the police” which means have police just focus on public safety and leave other aspects (personal reform, prevention, drug addiction, mental health issues…) to professionals. As such, take the funding out of the police for that (primarily by removing SWAT and such) and put the money to where it is useful.

The few that was abolishment are mere radicals (from both sides of the political aisle), those who want to reallocate funding are not radicals.

For most, yes, this is correct.

However, there are some who are legitimately proposing the elimination of the police department.
