Amazing multicultural event Werul is putting on. Nice music. Remind me to bring my drum to Mass next week.

I am watching it now as well on EWTN.

We should remember in this situation that St. Paul says that when one receives the Sacrament unworthily, there is no grace for the receiver and in fact, the harm to the soul is great.

I don’t know what will happen. I wish it wasn’t even an issue.

God will bless all of you for abstaining out of reverence for His most precious body and blood. You are truly great Catholics and I am honored to be in the same Church with you. I will pray for the day you can recieve.

God Bless
Kathleen

As for the politicians God Help Them they are truly doing the Church a dishonor. I see no love of Church just personal opinions and arrogance when it comes to things that don’t make them happy.

Thanks for that info, revelation, at least we may be spared that spectacle.

I also go to the altar to receive a blessing and to get as close to Christ as I can. I know that he knows how I desire Him and will answer my prayers according to His time.

I believe that most Catholics receive communion out of habit. They think they are Catholic because they receive without understanding that it is their faith in and submission to the church’s teachings that make them Catholic.

God bless you for that, bobcat. There are so many wonderful people in my parish who get so upset on my behalf. I tell them that it is truly good if I am the means by which they have a greater appreciation of the gift of the Eucharist. I have come to trust Him in all things, knowing that there is nothing from which He cannot bring a good.

You have to zoom in on this image. Look at Holy Father’s face! And Condy Rice.

This is literally a picture of hypocricy and absurdity. It should be what pops up when you google the words ‘confused politician’.

I tried to insert the picture itself but Im a dummy when it comes to computers can someone please do that. Then we can all come up with what we think the caption should read…like…

“Please Don’t Bite”
Why is this a picture of hypocrisy and absurdity as opposed to cordiality and what has this to do with the topic of the thread? The Bush’s aren’t Catholic and won’t be in the communion line - unlike the pro-abortion politicians who shouldn’t be there either but apparently will be. Which is the greater example of hypocrisy?

Well, I did not see any of the politicos receive and I am thankful for that. As Father Morris said on Fox, this issue was debated and decided long before this mass, to spare the pope from any possibility of scandal and the secular press have shown an amazing respect by not giving them attention.

Im not talking about Bush, Im talking about Pelosi.

and now Kerry…

Kerry, who took Communion from a priest far from the papal altar, said he didn’t think the pope’s message would have any bearing on this year’s campaign. “It has nothing to do with politics,” he told Associated Press Television News.

While it is very easy to be outraged by such public scandal by these Catholic politicians, I can’t help but think of the damage they may have done to their salvation. I really am moved to pity more than anything. 😦

My mistake - I assumed that was Laura Bush (although I did wonder about the ring kissing thing from a Methodist); I didn’t realize it was Pelosi. With that clarified: I agree completely with your observation.

IMHO If they were denied communion it would go a long way toward ending abortion. A public denouncement by the Holy Father would carry alot of weight.
American Bishops will NEVER be be taken seriously until they seriously start defending the Churches teachings.🤷

Predictable and sad … welcome to America Pope Benedict… 5,000 abortions a day and counting… It says a great deal about the living humility(and humiliation) of Jesus Christ who lives as the Blessed Sacrament… He did not stop them.

To his token Pope Benedict did mention yesterday in his address to the bishops those who call themselves catholic, but at the same time promote abortion.

I’m sure the pope is very aware of the situation, just as much as we are. The blame lays not with him, but with the bishops and priests who KNOWINGLY distribute communion to such people that have made public professions of their promotion of sin. The blame lays with the people who have confirmed these people in their sins. Thankfully at this mass there was no focus on any individual during the communion time.

Even if the pope chained them to a post for the whole mass, what about next weekend? It’s the same body of Christ.

They don’t need to be put in their place, they need to be educated. By their parish priests. By their local bishops. Who knows, perhaps all the people in question went to confession right before the mass and realised the wrongness of their ways? We can’t know these things.

Once again, being denied communion once by the pope in such a public setting would cause a great media scandal, and would in fact take the focus away from Jesus Christ, who is supposed to be the focus of the mass. If denied today, they would only have to go to any number of other catholic services another day to receive the body of Christ.

What has to happen is the local bishops have to instruct their priests what to do, let them know who these people are. Then they would have to choose Jesus or not.

My goodness, we have to give the Pope a chance here. He is only a man like you and I. Pray for your priests and bishops. They need our prayers

The article said they intended to receive communion. Let us wait and see. Also will the EMs or priests that participate know who is whom?
Oh no - they got their public relations coup for the Democratic Party. No doubt they will use in the coming months.

I am Catholic and ticked off at this. I am very depressed that they could do this so brazeningly right in front of the Pope! It makes me question if the Pope and the Catholic Church is serious. This is just reason number 99999 for Catholics to get angry…

Article below

They described it an act of faith, rather than of defiance.

Several Catholic lawmakers who support abortion rights, including Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi received communion today at the Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI, in apparent disregard for the pope’s views on the issue.

Four years ago, when questions arose over whether then-presidential candidate Kerry should receive the sacrament, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger wrote that it could be withheld in certain circumstances, such as “obstinate persistence in manifest grave sin.” One example of such sin, he said, “was consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws.”

And the article below shows their research…

Regarding the Mass at National’s Stadium today, this how pro-abort Catholic politicians like Pelosi and Kerry will receive Holy Communion…

These politicians have “advance” work done: They will make sure they know which priest is assigned to their section – this priest will be well aware of who is in the line coming for the Eucharist. These arrangements will be made ahead of time, through the Archdiocese of Washington.

There will be no doubt, no hesitation – very likely a television camera will be trained on Pelosi, Kerry, et al as they take Communion, and millions of people will be watching.

It will not only be a “statement,” as described by Brian, but it will also be a public relations coup of the highest order for the Democratic Party, and an end to the threat of Canon 915 .

Why? Because they will have received Communion at a Mass celebrated by Benedict XVI.

From the above…how much more ‘education’?

Is there any US bishop that actually doesn’t understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church relative to abortion?

Just how would you educate them; what would you tell them that they already know but reject?
