From the above…how much more ‘education’?

Is there any US bishop that actually doesn’t understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church relative to abortion?

Just how would you educate them; what would you tell them that they already know but reject?
Not the bishops, the poorly catechized.

And now a quote from Ms Pelosi, from the link given in the post above:
**
“Communion is the body of the people of the church coming together,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference after returning from the Mass. “I feel very much a part of that.”
**
If that statement doesn’t scream of ignorance and poor catechesis, i don’t know what does. I’m sure all bishops and religious fully understand the catechism, but they don’t have the cuillones to do what needs to be done. These people clearly don’t comprehend what is going on when they can make such statements and “feel comfortable” receiving communion.

PRAISE GOD that the focus of the televised coveraged remained on the eucharist itself and not on any one individual.

Speaking of catechesis and what horrible state it is in, listen to this doozie. Last week at a service i was attending, the head of our diocesan adult faith formation program (the only one available for teaching adults) got up at mass and delivered the homily. Her homily was more of a plug for her program, and it was painful. And this is the lady who is RUNNING our catechesis program…think she’d be the first to know that only the priest or deacon can preach the homily?

These people clearly have NO IDEA what is happening. If they did they would be deeply sorrowed, as we all are

I don’t know that stopping a papal public mass in such a high profile event to refuse communion to these people will really help solve anything. I think the message has been sent that these people should not receive, and that they are condemning themselves by receiving. I think it would be a greater scandal to make a big deal of it in the middle of mass than it is now. Yes it’s a horrible sin. But just like every other sin, it is something that each person chooses when they turn away from God. And we are given free will.

It is a sad thing, and it’s too bad this country doesn’t have better and stronger catholic political leaders.

I’ve read the majority of this thread, and it absolutely amazes me.

All I can say is, and apply it to yourself, only if it applies: You may call yourself orthodox, but you are now questioning your Bishops, Cardinals, and even your Pope.
Perhaps, it is time to examine your views of orthodoxy…your rants are getting stale.

John

NOTE: No current political candidates have been mentioned in the below news link. Here are the first three paragraphs; (Emphasis mine)

Abortion-rights supporters Kerry, Pelosi take communion at papal Mass
They described it an act of faith, rather than of defiance.

Several Catholic lawmakers who support abortion rights, including Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi **received communion today **at the Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI, in apparent disregard for the pope’s views on the issue.

Four years ago, when questions arose over whether then-presidential candidate Kerry should receive the sacrament, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger wrote that it could be withheld in certain circumstances, such as **“obstinate persistence in manifest grave sin.” **One example of such sin, he said, “was consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws.”

Ratzinger’s letter did not mention Kerry by name, and in any case, he recommended a pastoral, rather than prosecutorial approach — talking to the individual before turning them away from the Communion rail.

I don’t know how to break it to you, but of the three people named in your post, two are current political candidates. The pope, as far as I know, is not a current candidate.😉

A Catholic man gets married, he gets a divorce, he goes to his priest and asks if he can receive communion, the priest says, no, you’ve had a divorce.

A Catholic woman gets married outside the church to a Jewish man, she goes to her priest and asks him if she can receive communion, he says, no, not until your marriage is “sanated”.

A well known congress woman who actively and vocally supports “abortion rights” attends a papal mass and goes up to receive communion from a priest who cannot possibly NOT have known who she was; she receives the eucharist and is able to walk away chirping about “hope and compassion”.

What’s wrong with this picture?

All you good Catholics in the trenches fighting the good fight against this terrible, government sanctioned sin; all those of you who are carrying placards, handing out pamphlets and pleading with women outside abortion clinics; all you who are receiving abuse and disdain form the proponents of the culture of death…

Benny doesn’t have your back.

You are on your own.

All you’re going to get from him and the bishops are concerned looks and strongly worded statements. When they are given the opportunity to actually do something they buckle like a belt.

In this case the fault lies with Archbishop Wuerl (following in the footsteps of Archbishop McCarrick) who has already made known that he would not refuse communion to a Catholic politician “merely” because he supports abortion. But you are correct in your comment about Pelosi et al; they clearly cannot understand (or do not believe in) what they do.

Let me say first that we cannot change the hearts and minds of these people, it is the Holy Spirit. We can pray that our words and deeds will open their hearts even just a little to allow the Holy Spirit to enter. We must also never give up our cries for justice for the unborn, the sick, the old and the disabled. They have no voice but ours. The Lord hears the cry of the poor, even if our politicians do not.

I am a sidewalk pray-er at an abortion clinic. I do not feel abandoned by the Pope. He cannot be in every place in every time, He is not God. I agree that the issue is bigger than this one mass but I am grateful that we were spared the sight of Kerry and Pelosi committing sacrilege.

As for the examples about divorce and marriage outside the church wherein people were told they could not receive communion. I am one of those. The truth is that if I presented myself for communion, I would be given it. I could also have left one parish for another where no one knew me and receive. I choose not to because I do not wish to create scandal and because I deeply believe in the real presence. I accept that Jesus gave His church the authority and humbly submit myself to it. Not at the command of a priest or bishop, but at the command of Jesus.

Here’s another example of the poor catechism being taught in so called Catholic university. I took a class at Regis University. The title was “The Catholic Church in the 21st Century”. The professor, who is the faith formation director at one of the local parishes proclaimed that the Eucharistic meal is no different that any other. That nothing special occurs there and that every meal shared is eucharistic. It was her belief that anyone regardless of their state of grace or even their belief should be welcomed to communion.

She also believed that women should be allowed to be priests. She herself would like to be one and thinks that she would be a better priest than most men.

These are only two of her heresies. It was a contentious class and while she was always gracious to me, she clearly was unhappy that I was in her class. I asked her once, why she didn’t just leave the church and become a Lutheran or Episcopalian where she could be a priest. She answered that she loves the Catholic church and would never leave it, she believed it was her calling to reform it; to conform to her doctrine of course.

I read one or two articles in Catholic periodicals about the current practice in the USA, where according to the articles, and according to my observation at the local Church here, just about everyone goes up for Communion. As you have seen in the class, and from what I have also heard from the sermons, this is what is being taught today, and I guess that is why at Communion time, just about everyone goes up to receive Holy Communion. How else would you explain these articles appearing in Catholic periodicals on this? I am not a theologian, as your professor is, and I am not schooled in Catholic theology as your professor at the Catholic university is, but from what I have been taught before, this seems to me to be a rather serious change in Catholic teaching. Again, I am not a theologian, but I thought that Catholic teaching was not supposed to change in its essentials. only in its disciplines. Does this mean then that the teaching on the Eucharist, as this Catholic theologian and others have outlined, is considered to be something disciplinary and not really essential to Catholicism? How else do Catholic theologians today justify this post-Vatican II change in teaching concerning the Eucharist?

IMHO this is due to the lack of catechesis in almost every area, but most of all in the Sacrament of Reconcilliation. I think it’s a societal thing too - our consciences seem to be pretty dull when it comes to our own sinfulness. We live in a society where nothing is our fault, everything can be ultimately justified, and we aren’t humble enough to examine our actions and admit fault. :twocents:

Divorce is not a sin, remarriage without annulment is the sin. Divorced people may receive all the Sacraments.

You have integrity, Pelosi and Kerry obviously do not.

Also it’s worth pointing out that Sen. Kennedy did not receive, even though he was in attendance. I know. I know. But it’s a start:tiphat: ☘️

The Pope spoke in a Q nad A about this Secular pick and choose, pro-choice Catholicism(IMO He is so much better when he speaks off the cuff and not reads prepared, academic dissertations).lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/apr/08041805.html

I don’t know which articles you are reading, but Catholic Teaching has not and will never change. Please read CCC for the facts on CCT, not some unnamed periodical.

Doesn’t take a theologian to know that you are NOT allowed to go to communion while in the state of Mortal sin. Actively supporting abortion rights is a mortal sin. Kerry and Pelosi know this, but they do it anyway.

Secondly, priests do not give sermons, they give Homilies. Big difference.

You have integrity, Pelosi and Kerry obviously do not.
It seems they are very weak, I truly pity that, to have gained the whole world, power, money, easy living, but at what expense?

I too was in somewhat of a similar situation and only refrained due to the promptings and strength of the Holy Spirit, thanks be to God.

There is no hiding from Him. You, I, Kerry and Pelosi could all receive communion. But who are we all kidding? People on Earth may not be the wiser but God is all-knowing.

This goes to show me that if this is the caliber of person in charge of this country, then we really need to pray a whole lot more. I hope that doesn’t sound too proud, I really mean it. What a state we all are in.

Interesting - didn’t know that. Here’s to hoping it was for all the right reasons, for his own sake.

Perhaps it’s time for them to answer God (they will in the next life if not now) on how they have betrayed the Church through their support of heresy, ecumenism at the expense of the Truth of our Lord Jesus Christ, and public sacrilige like the ones that were commited yesterday. Yes, we are to obey when we have good shepherds giving us spiritual health. But we cannot swallow the poision that is being fed by their actions. This isn’t just politics; it is our salvation that is at stake. We cannot follow this new religion that has been imposed on Christ’s faithful. As it is written; even if an angel were to preach a gospel to us what is foreign, we are not to obey. We were warned. The best thing for us is to keep the faith, pray for those who are in charge now, and pray for holy priests.
