Divorce is not a sin, remarriage without annulment is the sin. Divorced people may receive all the Sacraments.
I’m a little confused here. A man marries a woman and has a family and then decides to divorce his wife and abandon his family after 15 years of marriage, since he prefers the single life. You tell me that it is not a sin to refuse to live up to your family and marriage committments? Where did you hear this teaching?

I don’t know which articles you are reading, but Catholic Teaching has not and will never change. Please read CCC for the facts on CCT, not some unnamed periodical.

Doesn’t take a theologian to know that you are NOT allowed to go to communion while in the state of Mortal sin. Actively supporting abortion rights is a mortal sin. Kerry and Pelosi know this, but they do it anyway.

Secondly, priests do not give sermons, they give Homilies. Big difference.
Well then, what was this Catholic theologian talking about? Why is she teaching Catholic theology at a Catholic university? And further, what is the meaning of the word “sermon”?

Hello,

I am sham7. I personally believe that an abortion is immoral and that it is a woman’s responsibility to come to that same point in their thinking to allow a life within to become a human being. I think that war/s and its proponents are more harmful with all the killing that occurs as compared to the developing lives that are aborted. I do not condemn politicians that vote in ways that seem contrary to the Cathoic faith as they too may have a bigger picture as to “ProLife” than just focusing on the abortion issue. Yes, both war and abortion are wrong most of the time. The Church has a criteria for a justifiable war. Jesus has a plan for someone who sins too. They can confess, make amendment, and be forgiven. Let’s not judge our brothers and sisters in Christ and leave that to our Lord, ok? Amen

If the Pope beleives what he says about the reception of communion, what the church teaches, then why at least at his Mass can this not be enforced?!

Frankly the excuses are telling. The extraordinary ministers did it. Yes, the Pope could have had these handpicked. but didn’t.

Does he not beleive what he preaches? Is he just fearful of a schism in the West that would finacially cripple the church?

He’d be better to act even if in fear as peter did.

His visit is turning into a major disappointment IMO.

To BECOME a human being? What else would it become?

Your are very tolerant. God, in His infinite wisdom, realized that the Church of me, a one-legged-stool can never stand alone. That’s why He gave us the Church, the Bible, and Tradition. Ever wonder why people are so horrified by prom girls who discard their babies in the bathrooms, and then return to dance as if nothing had happened? I wonder why they are so horrified. It’s perfectly legal, and her choice alone.

We are talking about politicians who ACTIVELY support abortion, not those who belong to a party which happens to endorse abortion.

I don’t condemn them either. But since they are not following the CC, why should they want to be a part of the Church??

While I agree with your theory, remember, Christ came not to condemn the world but to preach salvation.

When Ratzinger first became Pope, all my liberal relatives asked me (totally conservative) what I thought, like is Ratzinger conservative or liberal (we know he is conservative). Pope Benedict XVI is Christ’s Vicar on Earth. We know he sits on the chair of Peter. Even President Bush said that!! (YEAH) I will leave to Pope Benedict XVI’s discernment

Bob, I don’t know the what a “sermon” is, probably a particular preacher’s rant. Honestly, I am with you, why is a “Catholic” theologian teaching non-Catholic princuiples? Perhaps the university used to be Catholic, but has since become secular?

He is not preaching Chritst on this visit! He is preaching a realtivistic human understanding of truth that should and is he says evident in all faiths and groups and from that we can work together to promote human rights.

Come on - he is not acting as a shephard from what I am seeing. The protestants are being turned off by the visit but orthodox catholics are having problems too. The Mass in Washington was a spectacle of public relations to me.

You have to ask yourself - how much does he really beleive? How much do the bishops really beleive.

The only ones surprised by the visit so far seem to be secularists who applaud his support of undocumented immigrants and loved his inclusicve Mass.

…Secondly, priests do not give sermons, they give Homilies. Big difference.
My understanding of a sermon is that it is a discourse on a moral or Scriptural issue delivered by a member of the clergy at a religious service. And I don’t see how this differs from a homily. I believe that they are close to being synonymous, so I don’t see where it makes any sense to criticize someone for using the term sermon instead of homily. Unless you can give me a reference to a standard dictionary where the difference between the two terms is clearly outlined for the general public, it looks to me like this type of criticism is nothing more than useless nitpicking.

You got the wrong person as this is not my post, so, yes, you are confused! good luck:confused:

Just a thought…don’t you think that Pope Benedict…the successor of 2000 years of faith and knowledge, may understand the situation just a bit better than some self-proclamed theologians? Better yet, may not the same man have a little better grasp than you or I?

I’m sensing a call on many here for instant gratification. The Church is eternal…it does not function on human time scales.

John

A woman can decide to abort the developing life or not and thus, hopefully, it would become a human being and not be a still born baby. I think as the Church teaches that abortion is immoral and, if a woman chose to abort it would be a sin and would be less than an ideal choice. We all sin, right? YEP
So, we try to educate all and use social pressure to defeat this sin as much as humanly possible.

You mentioned an example of a prom queen aborting a baby,
but ignored or avoided the horrific horrors of war! There are so few prom queens, but so many young ones especially who have died in wars for seriously wrong reasons by governments. We humans sin in letting it get to this point. We all participate in “Pro death”, if you will. I do not disagree with our Faith in JESUS and His church, but it is not always so simple as politics involves helping all as much as humanly possible and we are instructed to, “give unto
Ceasar what is … and to God what is God’s”.

I leave it up to God to judge J Kerry and N Pelosi as only he knows their hearts and their inner confession with him before the hour of their deaths not to mention the moments before communion as to their preparation both in confession and examination of conscience. Amen

There was a Catholic priest who was a member of Congress, Father Drinan of Massachusetts, and from I read, he was one of the most pro-abortion legislators in Congress. But in spite of his pro-abortion record, he was allowed to say Mass and receive Holy Communion every day. I am not sure why the Catholic hierarchy did not excommunicate Father Drinan, except perhaps if they were not that much in favor of anti-abortion legislation as one might think? That was a question.

I hope one can see the foley in thinking that a priest, bishop, cardinal, or even the Pope can know the heart of a man/woman. It is time for each Catholic to look at the Big Log in their own eye and focus on their own journey. I believe that was an idea that Jesus put out there, but it seems that too many Catholics tend to ignore it. Remember, “they will know you are Christians by your love”? yep I am sure that
our religious will do their duty when aware and able. If not,
God will carry them in time of need or weakness. I guess this is all about trust and faith in God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit. Amen
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

But some people have proclaimed publicly their support for abortion rights. This is not a case of something private or unknown to the general public.

I think something we are forgetting here is that the Pope did not give communion to the pro-abortion people at the Mass. If I am not mistaken the 30 or so people that did receive from the Holy Father were hand picked by those responsible for the Mass.

The Holy Father would never make a scene but I believe he will take care of the situation now that he has seen it first hand.

I believe there will be repercussions, but, we might not hear about them as quickly as we might want to. I believe that the whole world has now seen what many of the faithful in the USA have been complaining about.

This is what the Holy Father said about the subject. The cafiteria is closed.
***The Pope noted that rather than “thinking with the Church”, some Catholics believe they have “a right to pick and choose” in the faith, “maintaining external social bonds but without an integral, interior conversion to the law of Christ.”
“We have seen this emerge in an acute way in the scandal given by Catholics who promote an alleged right to abortion,” he lamented.***

Catholicism is not the same as the religion of Islam. Nobody is killed if they go against the basic beliefs.
Let’s hope and pray that the politicians who received communion had all gone to confession before they received and truly changed their ways. Let’s pray that a miracle happened during this papal visit and all the newly reformed politicians will announce on Monday morning that they no longer approve of abortion, embryonic stem cell research, etc.
If they received communion without confession and a true change of heart… they still will not be stoned to death.
I believe in miracles.🙂

being a pro choice voter does not mean that one personally
believes in a “pro abortion” position

Let’s face it there are both sides of the isle voting to fund abortions for the poor, etc.

I want no abortion and no war/s! Both lofty and good Catholic ideals to strive for, ok? tks
