I didn’t know he had more in him. 😠
These are recycled saint-of-the-day poems from 2015. They were obliterated during the great apocalyptic CAF format change, when someone decided that none of the jewels in the Clubhouse and Back Fence subcategories were worth saving 😠.

Today, we recall another pastor,
The Bishop of Apt, good Saint Castor,
A man who agreed, along with his wife,
That they both should enter monastic life,
At his request, I’m happy to note,
We’ve the Institutes that Cassian wrote,
Which was itself a useful tool,
That influenced St. Benedict’s Rule,
So to Saint Castor, my thanks are given,
In rhyme with this post eighty-seven.

And as you are now proving, they were worth saving and also reading again. Today’s poem gives us the example of not being of this world although in the world, and in fact helping others to gain life beyond this world.

God bless!

Today’s saint for post eighty-eight,
Is Pope Saint Gregory the Great,
As a monk, he was content,
When called to lead, then off he went,
A wise reformer he would be,
From politics to liturgy,
A writer too, and quite prolific,
His Dialogues are just terrific,
At CAF, a common rant,
Is over his Gregorian Chant,
So with respect, on the 3rd of September,
This Doctor of the Church we now remember.

Thank you for another gem about the Saint of the Day. And as for our Saint of the Day, Saint Gregory the Great once wrote:

“The proof of love is in the works. Where love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist.”

This is what I will strive to do today.

Have a blessed day!

When heresies were at their worst,
Then came Pope Boniface the First,
His election nearly caused a schism,
Some bishops preferred Pelagianism,
The emperor helped the Church to cope,
By ousting the other would-be pope,
Since Boniface did wisely choose,
To follow St. Augustine’s views,
And so, once more, things worked out fine,
Our saint today for post eighty-nine.

The heresies had the potential to destroy the Church, but Jesus said that the gates of hell will not prevail against His Church (Matthew 16:18). Good men such as Pope Boniface and Saint Augustine were guided by the Holy Spirit accordingly. Let us pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us on our salvation journey.

Have a blessed day.

She cared for the dying, who had no other,
Saint Teresa of Calcutta, known as Mother,
She took in the sickest from the street,
For in the poor, there Christ we meet,
Her steadfast service brought her fame,
Seems everybody knows her name,
And honors her from coast to coast,
As I do with this ninetieth post.

And this is your public service announcement that she didn’t write the “Anyway” poem. The confusion comes from the fact that she liked it and had it hung in her children’s home in Calcutta.

The “Anyway” poem is more properly known as the Paradoxical Commandments, written by Dr. Kent M. Keith.

She was, and is, a model of holiness, charity and compassion. May we all do as well.

God bless!

The life of Saint Eleutherius,
Might be completely mysterious,
Except that Pope Gregory, from three poems ago,
Helped to make sure that we’d all know,
About this holy abbot, who,
By God’s grace, miracles could do,
His memory now won’t be undone,
Today’s saint for post ninety-one.

Saint Eleutherius shows that with faith, all things are possible. Let us pray for a faith as strong as his.

Have a blessed day.

Like many martyrs of her time,
The subject of my ninety-third rhyme,
Was pressured into matrimony,
And forced to say her faith was phony,
But Saint Regina would not budge,
And met her death without a grudge,
She chose instead the martyr’s way,
And so we honor her today.

Even the threat of death could not deter her from following God. She chose to follow God, and today she is in Heaven with God. I pray to be as resolute should I ever be in a similar situation.

Have a blessed day!

This ninety-fifth poem, with Heaven and Earth,
Honors our Blessed Mother’s birth,
For though in Scripture, it is not shown,
That Mary was born, of course, is well known,
As part of God’s great master plan,
Her parents, we’re told, were Joachim and Anne,
And Mary’s the Mother of Jesus, we know,
It’s said that through her, all graces flow.

That’s a sweet poem in honor of Our Mother’s birthday.

My friend and I wished her a happy birthday in our traveling prayers today. 😊

🌹 💐 🌷 🎂

Great tribute to our Mother in Heaven, @christofirst.

Have a blessed week!

Back in the days of slaves and slavers,
God rose up Saint Peter Claver,
This Jesuit left his home in Spain,
To help the slaves and ease their pain,
In Cartagena, then still new,
Where Peter wound up suffering too,
He showed a people so oppressed,
That all with God are equally blessed,
And chains will not exist in Heaven,
Today’s saint for post ninety-seven.

He stood up for those less fortunate, those who needed a voice to be heard. Let us all have the courage to do what is right even when it is extremely difficult.

Have a blessed day!
