When Muslim kings sought to expand,
Their kingdom into Spanish land,
Then Christian hostages were kept,
And unto God the people wept,
So Mary, through an apparition,
Gave the Mercedarians their mission,
To gather funds, to pay the fee,
To set those Christian captives free,
Our Lady of Ransom came just in time,
Our saint for my 113th rhyme.

Mary, the Mother of God, is the ultimate intercessor for getting God to help us. You have provided a great example.

Have a blessed day!

Saint Albert of Jerusalem,
Wrote the Carmelites’ Rule for them,
But first he was Bishop of Bobbio,
Then to the Holy Land he did go,
Where king’s and warlord’s fights did cease,
When Albert worked to broker peace,
Until his holy life was stilled,
By an ex-employee he was killed,
His struggle’s over, now serene,
Our saint for this post 114.

He worked to bring peace to the world. The Peace of the Lord is a wonderful gift, may we all experience it daily.

Have a blessed day!

@christofirst These poems of yours really are a beautiful gift. Thank you.

Saints Cosmas and Damian, to begin,
Were twins, and practiced medicine,
But living their faith proved even harder,
And both, in time, became a martyr,
For doctors, now, they intervene,
Our saints for this post 115.

Living their faith, they used their skills as physicians to help others. Faith with works, and their faith was so strong that they were martyred for it. May we all be as faithful to God.

Have a blessed day!

By helping the poor, he answered God’s call,
Our saint of the day is Saint Vincent de Paul,
Captured by pirates and sold as a slave,
He escaped, and from then on determined to save,
The poor and oppressed, those afflicted with ails,
He became a disciple of Saint Francis de Sales,
He founded the Congregation of the Mission, and he,
Was co-founder of the Daughters of Charity,
He shows what a life of devotion can mean,
So I honor him now with post 116.

He made such a positive impact in the world he lived in, and all in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Let us pray to do the same.

God bless!

I work with my children, about 200 a day, everyday, but I am reminded that I have to do this work for the love of Christ, and not just as a profession. 💕

“Good King Wenceslaus looked out,
On the Feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about,
Deep and crisp and even,”
How could my attempt at rhyme,
Top this song from Christmas-time?
Still, there’s some things I must say,
On this holy martyr’s day,
There in Prague where he was king,
As a Christian he would bring,
Faith to all those in that place,
What came next was a disgrace,
Who would kill, and end his rule?
His brother, Boleslaus the Cruel,
Now he glows with Heavenly sheen,
Saint of my post 117.

Saint Wenceslaus lived a good and holy life, and he is in heaven. His evil brother did bad, and he is not. Definitely a lesson there for all of us.

Have a blessed day!

When wicked Satan did rebel,
Saint Michael saw him off to hell,
We honor him today, as well,
As Gabriel and Raphael,
We thank all angels on this day,
We know they’re with us as we pray,
Though usually they are unseen,
Our saints of this post 118.

We do thank all the angels, and we thank God for all the angels. The daily prayers at my home include the pray to Saint Michael. They are there to guide and to protect us.

Have a blessed Sunday!

I’d forgotten about St Michael today! Thanks @christofirst for the reminder. :+1:t4:

For this 119th poem,
Today we honor Saint Jerome,
Who after a self-centered youth,
Was baptized and embraced the truth,
But still remained a slight curmudgeon,
His words, to some, could seem a bludgeon,
So left alone, he did translate,
God’s Word to Latin, the Vulgate,
He said, “When Scripture is ignored,
We do, in fact, ignore Our Lord,”
And so, despite his prickly mood,
Recall him now with gratitude!

My “Saint Jerome Biblical Commentary” is a great tool towards my better understanding of the Word of God. May we all be as enlightened as Saint Jerome, and may we all meet him in heaven.

God bless!

When I read that I mentally translated to Mudgie speak. 😁

Have a blessed day/evening there in Denver! 🙂 We in Adelaide are in good cheer, as we enjoy spring weather - which is usually a delightful time of year here, especially if it’s been a good winter for rain, as it was this year. The spring is usually the same (ie. lovely), but if the rain was poor then we are mindful that a long, hot dry summer is looming.

@Greenfields- I think you are also having a good spring in Victoria? You even mentioned snow last week (was it?). 🙂

I’ve wandered around my “garden” and thought about pulling some weeds and doing a bit of pruning. My last few adventures in planting new plants were such failures that I’ve stopped thinking about that - but it’s so inviting atm I almost could 🙂

Maybe I’ll plant tomatoes again. I love fresh tomatoes! 😛
