Indeed, and thanks for expressing it better than I did.

Have a blessed day!

P.S. Looking forward to your Saint poem.

Saint Mark (4th Century bishop of Arethusa, Lebanon)

Saint Mark of Lebanon pulled down
The Pagan temple in his town.
When Emperor Julian said go fix it
He chose instead from town to exit.
The Romans caused his flock much trouble
And Saint Mark came back on the double.
He stayed serene, while scourged and stripped
While dragged through town, while being whipped.
His calm demeanor inspired such awe.
They freed him, begged he teach God’s law.
May we, like him, show love to others
Who, though they hurt us, still are brothers.
Amen.

Your wonderful poem reminds us that just as Saint Mark returned to aid his flock, so too is Jesus there for us. And as Saint Mark’s suffering led others to Christ, Christ ultimately brings us all to the Father in all His Heavenly glory.

God Bless

How do you know the saint for the day??? I was wondering about that. I’ll take turns trying… Let me know…

I’m not sure what the topic is now, I think it’s saints but I just wanted to share and wasn’t sure where to, that the book Transformation in Christ by Dietrich von Hildebrand is really good and inspiring.

Hi Petra: I got my information from a couple of books: The Illustrated Lives of the Saints (volumes 1 and 2) Saints: A year in faith and Art.
There is also this

but you’ll have to look up the saint or saints of the day (and today’s wasn’t in here).
A couple of days ago, I searched online

Hey Petra 22,
The saints for tomorrow, Monday the 30th include St, John Climacus, Abbot; Saint Zozimus, bishop.
I chose Saint Mark from various possibilities for today because I had more information about him which made it easier to write.

The Laudate phone app includes a Saint of the Day section. There are actually numerous Saints listed for each day. Not sure how their website works on a computer.

I go to Catholic.org for my information on which Saints have their feast on a particular day. For each day of the year, there are numerous Saints from which to choose.

For today:

At the top of the page you’ll see Saint Regulatus. If you scroll down a tiny bit, you’ll see 15 others Saints whose feast days are today.

It’s a great website for finding Saints. You can search by date, but name, or by patronage.

Here goes… April Fools!!!

When Pope St. Alexander, head of the Christians
Was living in the city of Rome,
St. Hermes was being tortured unmercifully in prison
Keeping him away from his home.
His faithful sister gave him comfort and care
Which soon cost her life it is true,
St. Theodora was martyred in A.D. 120
Our Saint of the leap year 2020, day 92!

Reading your poem brings to mind the situation that many are in at this time - taking care of others even if it may cost us our lives. Saint Theodora made that decision out of love, and many are doing the same today. It brings to mind the words of John 15:13 “ No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”, and the great sacrifice of our Lord and Savior in doing so for us. What great examples for us all. So many prayers are needed, let us pray.

God bless.

Do you want to try to alternate? Anyone else want to compose? I have a greater appreciation for christofirst and jeannetherese today!!!

Petra, having tossed my hat into the ring with you and Gertabelle and Christofirst, I am so impressed with the amount of dedication which christofirst put in to creating something which always brought me joy and was so informative. I’m also hoping that Christofirst might be better able to share if we help spread the work, given his mom’s health situation (for which prayers are offered)
My dream is that we alternate, and that a few more people join in to make this a bit easier, in terms of time and research.
Shall we provisionally alternate while encouraging others to join?

April 3…

Go to Mass and you will hear
Famous names of men on fire,
…Linus, Cletus, Clement, Sixtus…
Loving Jesus and the early church was their only desire.

Pope St. Sixtus I worked to shape the words
of the liturgy we use as we worship.
“Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus,” he urged people to pray.
“Holy, Holy, Holy,” still we rejoice today.

This year’s 94th saint expired in 125 A.D.
Martyred by Trajan, Emperor of Rome.
Pope St. Sixtus I died in the beautiful city,
The one of his birth and his home.
