Saint Francis of Paola (1416-1507) Feast Day : April 2

All you, who yearn for quiet and contemplation,

May find this saint a source of inspiration.

He chose at age sixteen to live apart,

And offered to Our lord his youthful heart.

But others sought to join this saint in prayer

And thus, the Order of Mims was founded there,

With Francis superior general over all,

Who sought him out, in answer to God’s call.

He moved to France, brought many to the faith.

A life of penitence he there embraced.

Then spent his last three months in preparation,

To meet our Lord, true source of consolation.

Your wonderful poem reminds us of how blessed Saint Francis of Paola was to know at an early age of his calling. Thank God for his patience, because many of us, myself included, take a while to hear his voice. Let us pray for the understanding of his call, the wisdom to discern it, and the courage to follow it.

God Bless.

As you point out so beautifully in your poem, the fire and passion to follow God is powerful. Let us strive to have the same passion to know and follow Jesus, and may we also be blessed to spend eternity with Jesus.

Have a blessed day!

Saint Isadore of Seville (born about 560, died 636) Feast Day April 4

Classical scholars, seeking what’s good and true

This doctor of the church shares that with you

At Elementary, studied he the Trivium

In cathedral school then turned to the quadrivium.

He mastered Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, then,

Used knowledge gained to serve his fellow men.

As bishop of Seville he challenged heresy

And Arianism was vanquished from his See.

As presider of the council of Toledo

He called for seminaries for his people

Ensuring that in every Spanish See

Cathedral schools like his would come to be.

Knowledge of science and classics he gladly shared

Through an encyclopedia that he prepared.

As death approached he gave his goods away,

Forgave all debts, composed himself to pray.

May we, like him, devote ourselves to learning-

The good and true to ever be discerning.

Amen.

Saint Isidore’s patronages include the Internet and computer users. Let us use our time at rest to research and meditate upon this great Saint’s contributions to our faith, and may that time inspire us to grow closer to God.

I feel like I let you all down. I came up with a temperature and illness on Saturday. St. Vincent Ferrer got put on hold… He was sharing a feast day with Palm Sunday anyway… And we are in the middle of packing up the house to move… I don’t think I can help out on the poems on a regular basis… and it takes A LOT of work… Christofirst is tops in my book… Jeannetherese, you are super too!!! I just can’t right now… 😦

I totally get it, Petra! I hope you are feeling better and that your move goes smoothly. May God bless you.
I was hoping we’d get enough volunteers that each of us might have one weekday for poem writing.
That would fit with my workload.
I’ll try to keep on on a once, maybe sometimes twice a week basis and see if we can keep the thread going.
I so appreciate you and christofirst.
Take care and don’t be a stranger. 🙂
I love your poems.

@petra22 and @jeannetherese, I greatly appreciate the poems you have provided. Each time we read about one of the Saints we are inspired to live a more holy life. Even if you can only post once a week or when you have a particular Saint that you want to share, that is one more taste of the heavenly life that we all aspire to.

God bless.

The myth of Easter is one I once believed. I believed the false story that the word Easter was about a pagan goddess. I had wondered why Christians would call their Holy Day after a false goddess? The answer is simple, they didn’t the story is false. Easter comes from a German word that means Passover. Passover is what others outside of the English speaking world call Easter. Passover is when the Jews commemorated the Angel of death passing over their houses marked with the blood of a lamb. Our Passover (Easter) is marked with the Blood of the Lamb of God so the sins of death will passed over us . Easter than does not refer to a goddess but to our redemption through Jesus Christ the Lamb of God and His triumph over death, Passover. Happy Easter to you all.

Happy Easter to all and best wishes to those celebrating Birthdays and CAF anniversaries! It was so nice to see the names of some whom I have missed since the CAF transition. I hope this Easter finds you all well and exultant over the goodness of God!
Alleluia!

I’ve a (hopefully) simple question:
Is this thread still going or has it come to a full stop?
Please quote sources for your response.
Yours in humble perfection,

I am not sure I understand your “simple” question. If it were at full stop, it would be closed. I don’t know what sources you would consider but my opinion only is that answer is that it is going and not yet finished.

STOP! No, don’t stop… Pray, pray, pray, especially for all on Divine Mercy Sunday… 🙂
BTW, illness went away but packing boxes didn’t… Don’t know when we will be able to make the move with this social distancing… DH not quite ready anyway… It’s not an emergency move. Might even be snowbirds for a while… still, just in case, gotta pack… it amazes me how much a person can accumulate in relatively short period of time (8 years…)

Glad you’re feeling better. I’d be scared to move. So many books; so many boxes. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Watching my parish on Facebook. I wonder how many parishes are doing the same?

Saint Mark, Evangelist

Feast

Saint Mark the Evangelist authored the Gospel According to Mark. He was one of the 70 disciples of Jesus Christ. He and his mother, Mary, were integral in the early church movement; Mary opening up her home as a Christian meeting place. Also, Saint Mark’s journey with Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas is recorded in Acts as they traveled through Cyprus and Rome carrying the Word. Church writings accredit Saint Mark as founding the Church in Alexandria and consequently, serving as bishop there.

Saint Mark’s emblem in Christian literature and art is the lion. He is the Patron Saint of Venice.

A life worthy of imitation
Doth erase the stain of limitation.
Wealth and worldly possessions can’t hold
the heart that loves thus bold.

St. Zita followed the Lord’s advice
“Who loves me carries his cross aright,”
practicing the greatest command
Love God and neighbor the only demand.

The impoverished soul shows goals complete.
A whole household laid at Jesus’ feet.
For her unselfish and godly way,
We celebrate St. Zita this 27th of April day!!!

P.S. And it’s my sister’s birthday!!!
Saint Zita, pray for us!
