Then why are you commenting on this thread?

Btw, your info seems to be quite dated. The bunker thing was Friday. Are you intentionally posting random comments here??
It is not a requirement to read a news article to become involved in a thread.

Keep up with the news, Trump spent time last night in the bunker too. Where will he spend the night
Are you intentionally attacking the person rather then the comments?

You asked the question

Any black lives matter Catholics here.
You did not ask the question,
who has read this article, in your title

Please don’t take any offense, but how can one be liberal and Catholic?
The church has been around for 2000 years and seen many political parties, ideologies, and regimes come and go. There have always been Catholics of all political stripes. While some issues, like abortion, are irreconcilable, a lot of stuff is up for debate.

All this to say, the church is not an extension of the Republican Party.

I don’t know where to start with this, that’s such a big discussion to have. Personally I believe that liberalism is a lot more in line with Catholic teaching of love and acceptance. Whereas others believe that conservativism is more in line with Catholicism especially in regards to abortion, same sex marriage, etc.

To start with: I believe that neither conservatism nor liberalism is totally “in line” with Catholic teaching. And believe that conservatives often proclaim themselves to be pro-life when in actuality they are simply anti-abortion. Anti-abortion is not pro-life. Sure that is a PART of pro-life, but conservatives tend to neglect the fact that after those babies are born, they are thrown into a foster care system and slip through the cracks in society, and can sometimes never achieve the same standards of living that others can.

I feel that some people see conservatism in and of itself as a religion. Conservativism is not a religion and is not inherently Catholic. neither is liberalism

BLM is a counter productive movement that provokes and deepens racializing thinking and ‘us versus them’ combat paradigms (and thereby deepens race based divisions), instead of contributing to the cause of helping people move past race based divisions and recognize ourselves as all members of one family.
How does it do this?

Exactly this!

“What do you mean you dont think rioting is good? You must want more black people to die 😡”
I’m not blaming BLM for the riots per se. There are always going to be opportunists who see protests as an opportunity to run wild and steal stuff. What I blame BLM (and blame is the wrong word) is that they try to hook people with the very real concern about police use of force and then sneak in a laundry list of unrelated, radical proposals.

All this to say, the church is not an extension of the Republican Party.
There’s a lot in the Republican party, particularly libertarianism, that IMO does not line up with catholic social doctrine. I think the only compatible position is to be tethered to neither party,

All lives matter, from womb to the tomb I would think would be the Catholic view.

Now, if one has a situation like NYC where it appears over half of some minority babies are aborted, I hardly see that as standing up for life or exists a belief that black lives matter.

Abortion is not how people learn to hate. Hate is usually taught to them by parents, grandparents, and peers.

Yes abortion should be stopped. In the meantime, call out people who make racist comments. Even if they think they aren’t racist comments, or the person themself isn’t racist, call it out. Call out people who make sexist comments. Or nationality comments. Or comments about different religions (or lack thereof).

In other words, step up and combat hate. Don’t use other issues as an excuse to not make the world and each of us better. It will be hard and uncomfortable, but Christ did not call us to have easy lives.

So what’s the problem with Black lives matter?
It isn’t white-centric. And in the USA, everything must be white-centric, preferably whites from northern Europe and the British Isles. Some other “western” Europeans excepted as long as they don’t look too “ethnic”

Assuming everyone who disagrees with you is motivated by animus toward brown people is just profoundly intellectually lazy.

I’m not a huge fan of BLM. Guess I just hate my brown wife and biracial kids.

Why do you feel a need to point out what race your children and wife are? That is the type of stuff that leads to a sense of otherness.

Because I’m pushing back on the implication that people who aren’t fans of BLM are just afraid of or dislike non-white people. This seems pretty straightforward.

I don’t like any group that promotes violence. BLM does not (https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/). However, there are many groups that promote violence. That includes several groups that want to start a race war, people who want to bring down government, etc

And while I am white (99% British Isles), I have had comments because when I tan up, my very ancient Mediterranean genes come out and people think I am Mexican. This was an issue in California in the 60’s & 70’s. My own father – born and raised in PA, was almost deported by the INS because he spoke Spanish, was picking peaches, and had a burrito for lunch, and had dark skin due to tanning. So please don’t think your children are safe because they have a white father. My dad wasn’t safe even though all 4 of his grandparents were from Ireland.

Cool. I never said BLM promoted violence. I just don’t agree with all of their stated goals, and I’m responding to the implication that people who oppose them are motivated by racism. That’s offensive, and as I said, intellectually lazy.

Great, thanks to the heads up. You’ve correctly deduced that I’m very naive and sheltered.
