Anyone feel like they won't ever get married?

I think many people do primarily base their relationships on looks nowadays. Why do you think they only last a few years? It’s funny how many people try to be with someone because they’re so good-looking, and then soon after, they have the nerve to act surprised that the other aspects of the person are not so easy to deal with. Really? Well, they were willing to pass that up when they were just thinking about their own physical attraction. If it’s good for oneself, it’s all right, but when it’s not, even if the other person is still happy, it’s not so important… Go figure. Looks are nice, but love is the total person, and I think in a healthy situation each person should be able to give and receive.

Things are already shallow enough as it is. Not everyone gets a chance to do the choosing. They either get chosen or they don’t. If you are not the top shark in the pool, you are going to be left very lonely. A lot of people believe in “me first” relationships, and that’s not really “relating” to anyone at all, it’s more like pet ownership… A lot of men and a lot of women out there are not going to be ‘taken’ by anyone because they’re not the first or the most anything, not the flashiest, don’t look like models, don’t have the best car, etc. 😦 You can’t choose yourself, you have to wait for someone to choose you.

People do their choosing earlier and earlier in life. This can be dangerous, because a lot of us are spinning our wheels, left out of the loop, and it can be too easy to get angry at people because of this. It can get really sad, and you have to push yourself to get out of a deep funk. You have to remind yourself not everyone is the same, not everyone is so bad, etc., etc. Marriage has a lot more visibility than do single people who are not in the dating scene. I think for a long time, people got married as part of life in the community, and there just weren’t as many single people to deal with. Now it’s different, like it or not, and people just don’t know what to do with us. I think when I take my attention off of ‘trying so hard,’ it becomes a little bit easier to deal with… Just relax, just try to have some more peacefulness, and hope I can keep a roof over my head and stay afloat in life in general, and then, I can worry about other things…

I think it is very destructive to tie yourself to one image and one hope. If you don’t get that exact state of life at the exact time you wanted it, you’ll be very disappointed. If I could get back the time I wasted doing that, well… you can’t get back your time from anything, can you. Whether there’s a family in the future for me or not, is not something I can predict. I pray for the married people. I pray for the people who are not married. I just have to hope things will be better.

Only just about every other minute. It’s hard being alone. I don’t sleep well at night just for thinking about it.

I know how you feel mediatrixxx I’m always asking Philomena & Raphael to lead me to a happy meeting

thats $500 not $5000 a month- sorry
I was gonna say…what part of the country do YOU live in??? 😃

Hey…don’t lose hope yet. I was a big earner in the past, including when I was married, and I was miserable. It wasnt the monet waking me miserable, it was that I had very little creative outlet or spiritual/interior life. I live on a very small income now and I’m so much happier because I have a LIFE and I have GOD! You may never know when you meet someone with “counter-cultural” values like your own. And sounds like you’re not looking for a gold-digger, anyway.

I will pray earnestly for all of us who are “still waiting”, especially for those who have posted to this thread.
I better post because I can always use more prayers 🙂 .
:newidea: AZgirl, your post inspired me!

What if a bunch of us “still waiting” singles got together (virtually, of course ;)) and agreed to pray for each other individually?

Here’s my list so far:

Harmony1988
beckers
ladylinguist
Norseman82
chevalier
Gisella
Sierrah
JustinL
Felicity in TX
azgirl
Cosmo23
lampstand
Morwenna

Starting tonight, I am going to try to pray either the Rosary or the Divine Mercy each evening, and I will include each of us individually by (screen)name 🙂

I will pray that God will make each of us ready for our future spouse (and them ready for us), lead us to each other, and to pour out grace upon us to give us strength and hope while we’re waiting. :heaven:

Anyone want to join me in praying for these intentions? Maybe we could get a regular prayer thread going, or we could just continue to post here.

Who’s with me? :extrahappy:

:harp:

I’m with you morwenna I’ll print this list and offer it up at mass tomorrow, and write it in the intentions book and pray toSt. Philomena, and St. Raphael!!

This is a lovely idea! I will commit to join you in prayer daily! It will be good for me to not be so selfish by only praying for myself and my future spouse! :gopray2: :grouphug:

Excellent idea, I guess most of us forgot about prayer. I too will do the prayers, since you given us a great template for starting, I will use yours. Additionally, I will use a novena to Mother Mary.

What do you mean by prayer thread though?

just to let you guys know, I am a member of the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy, which is dedicated to the spreading of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the diary of St. Faustina, and reading the chatecism and bible, devotion to our Blessed Mother, and Eucharistic adoration. Go to www.thedivinemercy.org or www.marians.org for more info on this wonderful devotion which changed my life from skinhead to warrior for Mary, & Christ!! Ans I’m also going to take this list to our next meeting and we will pray for all your intentions!! Oh! and I did offer up our intentions at mass today and will tommorow to for I never miss a mass!! 👍

 me,I’m just not looking. My mother had a stroke, and my dad had COPD,and later took care of him as well.Never went on dates in high school. Wanted to be a nun when I was younger, but not joining a convent was a blessing since my parents needed me.Always been kind of a loner anyhow, always have felt like i was on the outside looking in,though i did have a few friends in school.
Yeah, the thing about being a good woman is true. Why can’t men look at what’s right in front of them.
I don’
t bother with dating services cause I’m scared no one will like me.
And then if some man does show some interest,he’s already married.plus i work two jobs so i really don’t have time to socialize much.
I’m 52,which is another reason I don’t bother with eHarmony or
match.com or any other site.
Figure no one would be interested in an old bat like me.
I can go where I want and when I want, and don’t have to get into arguments or other stuff. My parents fough alot when I was growing up,so i think that’s another reason .Both my brother and sister have someone, despite all that ,maybe it affected me differently than it did them.
I do have 4 cats who keep me company and are a lot of fun.
Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky one of these days.I say that because once in awhile on the news you hear about these couples in their 60s or older getting married, and sometimes things seem to happen when you least expect them.

wow… i feel like i hit the jackpot. i am a single catholic guy, who cant find any girls who are actively practicing there faith, and everyone here posting are women saying the same about guys!? where do you girls hide!
It seems we all have problems finding each other.  🤷

I’ve been struggling with this a lot lately.

I’m 39 now, and still waiting. The funny (and annoying!) thing is that I’ve been told so many times in my life by many men, mostly not in dating situations, but by friends/acquaintances, completely out of the blue, that I would “make someone a great wife someday.” I know that they all meant it as a compliment, but … :banghead:

About a year ago, I was extremely disheartened, so I prayed a Novena to St Joseph asking him to intercede for me, that God would lead my future husband and I to each other, or that He would give me grace if it was going to be awhile (or never). I got loads of grace, more than I could’ve imagined, which carried me through almost an entire year. Even though I’m still waiting, I was (and am) so grateful for this sustaining grace.

I just turned 39 a few weeks ago, and I’m starting to feel myself slipping back into despair again. I think it’s time for another Novena.

I will pray earnestly for all of us who are “still waiting”, especially for those who have posted to this thread.

:gopray:
Wow…I’m currently praying a Novena to St. Joseph. Hopefully God will grant me the grace to get through it all too. 👍
