Anyone like going hiking?

I went to climb mountain (medium to low difficulty, no ropes or something) with some colleagues who had 2-3 experienced climbers. And it was summer because winter or bad weather is only for mountain people. Also we checked the weather before. It was great when going up the mountain for like 2,5 hrs and then at the top it was awesome, we sat for a while… but the hardest part was going down. We were already somewhat tired but the knees started to hurt at half a road down. I thought I’d just be stuck there but eventually we got down. Next day ankles and knees hurt like hell. But it was nice. Did that several other times.
It is somewhat… triggering of pride… especially when you walk alongside a slope in a forest and the needles of the fir trees are slippery so you might as well be falling down but you don’t. It’s like “never thought I’d live through this but I did”. Or encountering a cold rapid water that isn’t too deep but it’s cold, the rocks are slippery and of course…no bridge.
Some people in our group did not find it that funny (the one with the water).
Best part is that after a day like this you sleep like a baby. And if you had worries or stress they’d be gone, and if you were bored with life you’d stop thinking about it and all that.

This pathway is now restored and opened to the public. The video shown above was when it was technically illegal and not allowed to use, if I remember correctly. Lots of rock climbers and adventurous people found doing the trail then quite a thrill. ( Where it is particularly dangerous a cable was attached to the side of the cliff that you could clip into with your climbing harness. That wild child using the head cam was not always using it, though, I think. Bit of a show off. Certainly a dare devil.)

I think originally it was for servicing the damn or some such thing. I’ll have to look now.http://www.caminitodelrey.info/en/4916/history

Yes you are correct. Well done for doing your research. And thank you for taking an interest in my country brother! You’re welcome here anytime! I can’t say the same thing about your submachine though 😉

Thanks!!

In the past, I did lots and lots of rock climbing, so these sort of places are interesting.

I never climbed in Spain. Just Italy and the South of France. God willing, I might pick it up again someday.

One other thing I know of Spain that I really think is quite cool is the Sagreda Familia (Holy Family) Basilica. The architecture is very unique, to say the least.

Would you get jealous if I told you I’ve been inside? 😈

Nope, I don’t mind cold temperatures, too much. If I am moving and have warm enough clothes, it’s not bad at all.

I’d like it more if I had the stamina for it.

I would prefer driving to the forest, walking for a bit, then just sitting down and drawing what’s around me.

Nothing at all wrong with that.

Regarding stamina, sometimes a little bit of regular exercise goes a long way.☺️

Exercise? In Ohio? If you don’t like the weather, wait a few months- it’ll change 😄

I like to go on walks when there’s not snow on the ground. Besides swimming, I won’t exercise indoors. I have at least another month before I can start walking regularly again.

I love going hiking in the cold, especially if there is snow on the ground. After a few minutes walking you get warm.

Yikes, I was cold starting out this afternoon. I wore just enough clothes to get me by. It takes a little practice in cold weather to remember just how much clothing will get you by. I don’t like getting all hot and sweaty either.

I would have taken a pic for the photo thread but I forgot to take my phone again. It was very low visibility up top, but that’s ok. It was still fun. One guy was carrying a semi-heavy pack, only person on the trail, and he was training with his pack since he’s going on a 5 day excursion into the Grand Canyon next week. (GC is a bit too dry for my tastes, I think.)

Nah, it just isn’t my thing. I can imagine praying the Jesus prayer while hiking would be cool, but I have never taken on hiking as a hobby.

It was a short hike. I’ve been on it more than 50 times. I think I’m still alive. But I might not be. I’m uncertain of all the variant possibilities that a ghost can experience.

Yes, you’re right. One needs to be careful. I am a very experienced hiker. You know, one of those that dies every third day in the back country. 🙂

But yes, you give good advice.

Oh, I thought you meant clothing.

I don’t believe in phones as a source of rescue. That is my personal choice. Other can make their own decisions.

I do like the phone, however, for when I’m in the back country or out from immediate assistance because it gives me the ability to call for aid if I see someone else needs help. So that is a bit self-contradictory of me in a way. lol

I was out 6 months ago, and a kid fell and had a tibula fibula fracture. Can’t remember if I had a phone, I came upon the scene 15 minutes after it happened. They dialed 911 but were otherwise fairly clueless about what to do for him.

It’s good to have some sort of first aid training when one goes out into the wilderness, be it 15 minutes or 2 days out.
