That was an attempt at humor. My bad if it didn’t come out as such.
No no you’re fine. I knew it was. Mine was the same. That was an attempt at humor. My bad if it didn’t come out as such.
–That’s just another appeal to authority, the same authority many reject as false. Saying “The vast majority of health professionals…,” as if they are experts, does nothing to address my concerns (experts have no right to so conclude; they’re often wrong; they lie, etc.)vast majority of health professionals have said wearing a mask reduces the spread of a deadly virus.
–It’s also a dodge to say anyone’s being “uncharitable” as that is purely subjective. If your opinion is valid, mine is equally valid when I assert, “why are we so willing to be uncharitable by demanding that everyone else mask up everywhere they go?” (and remember, Julian, you did say precisely that!).why are we so unwilling to act charitably?
I said it because I meant it —if you’re in a group of people with whom you do not reside, it’s uncharitable if you’re not masked.–It’s also a dodge to say anyone’s being “uncharitable” as that is purely subjective. It’s because they are experts, whether you care to admit it or not. This is precisely the example of our country having lost an understanding that there are people who know more than we do about a given topic, because of education and professional expertise. That’s just another appeal to authority, the same authority many reject as false. The one about not killing anyone in the most dangerous place in the world, the womb. Can anyone name any of the 10 Commandments Trump hasn’t broken?
–Ah, now you’re changing the goalposts.if you’re in a group, it’s uncharitable if you’re not masked.
–Nope. Me, and many others, reject them as such; think them dishonest; think them egomaniacs drunk on their newfound powers; or some combination of all of the above.they are experts, whether you care to admit it or not.
There is NO ONE - not you; not the hysterical Dr. Fauci; not anyone, who knows what is best for my life than I do, MYSELF, and no amount of alleged education or alleged “professional expertise” will change that.there are people who know more than we do about a given topic, because of education and professional expertise
Yeah, but this isn’t about you and your life. It’s about the clerk at the grocery store who’s unnecessarily taking the risk of Covid because you refuse the simplest steps to protect her. There is NO ONE - not you; not the hysterical Dr. Fauci; not anyone, who knows what is best for my life than I do, MYSELF, and no amount of alleged education or alleged “professional expertise” will change that.
–And all this does is make’s the clerk’s rights superior to mine.Yeah, but this isn’t about you and your life. It’s about the clerk at the grocery store who’s unnecessarily taking the risk of Covid because you refuse the simplest steps to protect her.
–I’ve gotten this before, too. I got it in spades when I defended US healthcare around here 4 weeks ago: I got told repeatedly “I hope you never need insurance you don’t have!” over and over again. I was unmoved then, and it doesn’t do anything to alleviate any concerns I’ve voiced that no one can ever answer (experts aren’t experts; they lie, etc). And I hope you never need something like chemo—that “alleged” expertise can come in handy when they’re calculating the meds.
Totally not Julian’s point, of course.Yeah viruses really respect good intentions and all that fun stuff.
Yep. I guess it comes down to her right to live being exactly equivalent to your right not to wear a mask.–And all this does is make’s the clerk’s rights superior to mine.
Rioting and looting are wrong. As were protesters not wearing masks, which I said upthread.Do you denounce the rioters too or is that okay?
The clerk also has to wear a mask (and usually gloves) to protect any chance from infecting the shoppers.–And all this does is make’s the clerk’s rights superior to mine.
How do you specifically believe the immunologists are lying to us as to how to help curb the spread of this disease?–I’ve gotten this before, too. Further, as to anyone who says “experts are absolutely experts, who never lie!” …
We were talking about masks. You’ve made it clear that your right to spread a deadly virus trumps the clerk’s right to live. I got it.False dichotomy. First I have to wear a mask…then I have to stay at home…then my shop has to close.
You are in fact making the clerk’s rights superior to mine.
