That was an attempt at humor. My bad if it didn’t come out as such.

Seriously, I have LOTS of issues with this, but I will (as ever) try to be respectful.

First, this attitude alone is problematic since it cedes our rights to so-called “experts,” as if these “experts” have any right to tell me or anyone else how to live my life. Experts have no right, for example, to suspend the constitution or direct nation-destroying “lockdowns,” which is precisely what they’ve done. We have turned our country into an “expertocracy” where we cede power over us to so-called experts…

…but second, these “experts” are often wrong. Anthony Fauci (who IMHO is an expert at nothing, except being hysterical) has been repeatedly wrong about COVID since this pandemic started, and I appreciate Rand Paul noting that.

Third, why do we assume “experts” tell the truth? Again, Fauci basically has admitted to lying to the public: First he said, “there’s no need to wear masks,” yet now it appears he said this because he thought masks would help but also believed there weren’t enough available, hence his deceit.

Fourth, experts - like everyone else in their position - have egos and like power. Having ceded our rights and lives to them, when exactly will these experts step back, and say, “you no longer need a mask?”

Fifth, that segues into the nonsense that to so-called “experts,” we’re never doing enough. To the fake expert Dr. Fauci,we can’t have any football? School can’t restart in September? Why not kill the dog and take away Christmas, too?

So, NO, I don’t respect the silly hysterical Dr. Fauci, or the “cult of expertocracy” that’s sprung up.

We used to be a nation that valued education and expertise—sadly, that has disappeared.

Regarding masks, this has nothing to do with government instructions or taking away non-existent constitutional rights about clothing.

It boils down to this: the vast majority of health professionals have said wearing a mask reduces the spread of a deadly virus. We say we’re Christians—why are we so unwilling to act charitably? What harm would it do you to wear a mask, in case all those doctors are right?

vast majority of health professionals have said wearing a mask reduces the spread of a deadly virus.
–That’s just another appeal to authority, the same authority many reject as false. Saying “The vast majority of health professionals…,” as if they are experts, does nothing to address my concerns (experts have no right to so conclude; they’re often wrong; they lie, etc.)

–If you’re going to rely on experts, then ALL experts need to be consulted: Were mental health professionals consulted about the pychological effects of endless lockdowns and the total upheaval of our lives, endlessly? Apparently not. Were law enforcement experts consulted about how to avoid the now-documented spike in domestic violence the lockdowns caused? Apparently not.
why are we so unwilling to act charitably?
–It’s also a dodge to say anyone’s being “uncharitable” as that is purely subjective. If your opinion is valid, mine is equally valid when I assert, “why are we so willing to be uncharitable by demanding that everyone else mask up everywhere they go?” (and remember, Julian, you did say precisely that!).

I said it because I meant it —if you’re in a group of people with whom you do not reside, it’s uncharitable if you’re not masked.

And you moved the discussion with your appeal to mental health experts—we’re talking about masks, not lockdowns.

It’s because they are experts, whether you care to admit it or not. This is precisely the example of our country having lost an understanding that there are people who know more than we do about a given topic, because of education and professional expertise.

@gam197 Thank you for suggesting the ‘right side broadcasting network’. I have really been enjoying the coverage without any commentary or any commercials!

if you’re in a group, it’s uncharitable if you’re not masked.
–Ah, now you’re changing the goalposts.

Today I went out in a “group.” I didn’t mask up. Neither did my group members.

They were my wife & daughter, in our car. Was that forbidden?

Who’s a “group?” Family? More than 1? What circumstances? What if I’m on my own yard? Goalposts are changing.
they are experts, whether you care to admit it or not.
–Nope. Me, and many others, reject them as such; think them dishonest; think them egomaniacs drunk on their newfound powers; or some combination of all of the above.

There is NO ONE - not you; not the hysterical Dr. Fauci; not anyone, who knows what is best for my life than I do, MYSELF, and no amount of alleged education or alleged “professional expertise” will change that.

Yeah, but this isn’t about you and your life. It’s about the clerk at the grocery store who’s unnecessarily taking the risk of Covid because you refuse the simplest steps to protect her.

And I hope you never need something like chemo—that “alleged” expertise can come in handy when they’re calculating the meds.

–And all this does is make’s the clerk’s rights superior to mine.

–I’ve gotten this before, too. I got it in spades when I defended US healthcare around here 4 weeks ago: I got told repeatedly “I hope you never need insurance you don’t have!” over and over again. I was unmoved then, and it doesn’t do anything to alleviate any concerns I’ve voiced that no one can ever answer (experts aren’t experts; they lie, etc).

Further, as to anyone who says “experts are absolutely experts, who never lie!” …

Does that include the ones in China? Sheesh, China has lied to the world; hidden facts; etc., since long before this started. The WHO has carried their water.

Nope, I won’t fall for the expertocracy the masses rely on.

False dichotomy. First I have to wear a mask…then I have to stay at home…then my shop has to close.

You are in fact making the clerk’s rights superior to mine.

The clerk also has to wear a mask (and usually gloves) to protect any chance from infecting the shoppers.

All parties have to take some steps to protect all other parties. No one is above the other in this regard.

How do you specifically believe the immunologists are lying to us as to how to help curb the spread of this disease?

How do you think viruses spread?

We were talking about masks. You’ve made it clear that your right to spread a deadly virus trumps the clerk’s right to live. I got it.
