i really have a hard time with a God that allows such horrible evil and suffering like that.

i know, free will and all, but , well, idk.

it does make me question things.
🤷
We live in a country that has abandoned God for all practical purposes. On the way we have allowed, by law, the slaughter of over 40 million innocent unborns and have twice elected a President who thinks it is O.K. to let infants who survive abortions to languish to death in a closet !!! No I’m not surprised at all. And worse things are happening Asia and Africa. God lets us live in the mess we created - welcome to Hell, U.S.A. 🤷

God has probably watched 20 children die daily in Connecticut by abortion for years now. It is the culture of death that produces such tragedies, as the culture of death is a tragedy in itself.

Yes, you put how I feel into words. Unfortunately my atheist friends are mocking us Christians who believe in God. I tried explaining free will but it fell on deaf ears. Yes, call me a fool but I’ll be a fool for Christ till I die by His grace!

Also, as a society we no longer value life which is a huge issue.
Let the Atheists be, they are nearly all fools. What they think doesn’t mean a thing. Remember what the Lord said, " … I have taken away their understanding, lest they should understand…" And the folks here that argue endlessly with them are fools as well. 👍

Yes, I presented what Christians believe, and another friend back me up, but then dropped it. She just goes on attacking her friends who have faith and it is just sad. But the world has rejected Christ since he came and will continue to until he returns.

Did you know the perpetrator was on psychotropic medicine? Did you know that a side effect of these medicines can be violence and homicidality. Same with most other shootings like this the criminals were on psychotropic medicines.

yeah, i think i read that.
no, i didnt know about the side effects.
or that there were other shootings caused by that.

adding more instances of evil on the pile doesnt change the scenario.

couldnt a good God come up with a better system?

these evils just jolt us back to the reality, i think.
The fact is, it isn’t a system. These are choices. Every scrap of evil from the beginning of time has been a choice. The system of Heaven and Hell, also choices, for God or self. We were created perfectly. We were given the choice to remain perfect or not. We chose not to, to disasterous effect.

And well, how would you do it? Let’s say you were God. Remember, the rule: No violations of free will, and whether someone wants you there or not, you respect their wish.
How would you do it?

maybe so that we have choices of good and evil in limited ways.
not where we would choose to murder a child or anyone for that matter. that thought would not occur to us.
and i certainly wouldnt have created a system where theres such sickness and disease.
especially to children.

death wold come with old age and quickly, not slowly and painfully.

remember you could make it anyway you want right?
just thinking.🙂

YES, my faith gets shaken every time i turn on the news…my FAITH IN MANKIND.

My faith in God gets stronger.

Well, there is a “fiscal cliff” looming… How do we know that God is allowing these sorts of attrocities to go unpunished?

Maybe He’s about to wipe the slate clean with this failed western civilization and it’s promotion of lifestyle choices that are saturated in mortal sin and are causing so many young people to have depression and suicidal tendencies…

Hi Itullian!

A book that answered this question for me, because I used to feel just as empty, was Peter Kreeft’s “Making Sense Out of Suffering”. Please read it my friend. He answers every objection and question you’ve just raised. I wish I had the book with me I would quote some of it for you, but I’m on my smartphone right now. It’s so easy to read, I literally read it in one day. The last three or four chapters are the best.

Also CS Lewis’ “Problem of pain” is really good too.
One of the things either Lewis or Kreeft said was he compared us to a dog stuck in a thornbush. The only way to get him out is to pull him all the way through, but this causes immense pain for the dog. If the dog could think like we could, he’s probably doubting the love and goodness of man, for making him suffer. But his owner is outside the bush, and can see there’s only one way out. He would even crawl in there himself and suffer the same pain and pull him out from the inside.

Anyway I probably butchered that analogy, but the books really do a great job.

God’s handled this truly in the best way he possibly could, I know that doesn’t make sense right now but once you read those books it will. Please don’t despair!

I’m from Australia so I am looking at this situation from the outside. To tell you the truth your country does not have proper gun countrol. How can a women who is a teacher have 3 guns.

In Australia all semi automatic guns are illegal and you must have a very very good reason to have a gun eg you are a farmer and you need a gun to protect your cattle. Also the gun and bullets must be stored sepertly.

Until the usa make proper gun control laws and not worry that they will loose money due to the number of guns they are selling then this is going to happen again and again.

I dont know if this is true however i was told that in teh usa you could walk down the street and see a person carrying a gun in there jacket. If this is true then it is very worrying.

I have been following this thread and one thing that is hard for me is this.

Seeing all of these incidents shakes my faith in God’s protection. I am sure we all pray for his protection at some point in our life. However, if he does not interfere with the evil consequences of man’s free will, then what is the point of my asking him for his protection, especially when I go out. It seems that I can have confidence and faith that he will see me through another day, unless, I go to the mall and someone decides to shoot everyone coming in the door, and I am coming in the door. It just seems, in light of these evil events and the fact that he rarely intervenes in the consequences of man’s free will, that it is somewhat futile to pray for His protection. Just my thoughts.

I question people discussing gun control or any other politically motivated subject at this time. I am not referring to you, itullian; this is a general comment. Let’s get these people all the help they need and more, THEN discuss how this is happening too often, and what we should do about it in regards to weapons.

I question people ignoring the healthcare crisis in the country as it also pertains to mental health. Too many people like this shooter are being pushed out of care too quickly, be it a facility, medication, et al. ( I am excluding those who willfully forgo their meds. That’s another problem. And I am not saying that this is what happened to him, but obviously, something was lacking.) We need to deal with these matters quickly as we help with these people’s lives. My prayers are with them all. I question, too, believe me. Especially this. But maybe the answer is so far beyond us as to seem - I can’t even give the right word.

jesus4ever;

Wow, thank you for saying what I wanted to say a little later…,.

itullian:

I could almost cry with gratitude that someone is listening to me.

Blessings

That thought would not occur to us… which would mean one’s thoughts are partially controlled by an outside source. That does betray free will. The whole point of free will is that there is no outside control that we do not give.

And God didn’t design death, nor sickness. Those were not his system, not his decision. He did not create them.
