You Go, Bishop!
When a bishop speaks the truth boldly and clearly, it actually makes headlines. At least one of those bishops is in Madrid and rallying the Catholic troops.

One of the many positive videos! Lot’s of truth here!
There is also a great series of interviews with Bp. Fabian Bruskewitz on their site.

RCTV have asked the AoD numerous times for a meeting. If the AoD were so concerned why no meting, why no responses?

After the Archdiocese of Detroit announced that RealCatholic TV should not identify itself as “Catholic,” the broadcast apostolate has responded by pointing out that it is not legally based within the Detroit archdiocese.

The Detroit archdiocese issued a public statement cautioning RealCatholic TV, saying that it “does not regard them as being authorized to use the word ‘Catholic’ to identify or promote their public activities.” But the owner of RealCatholic TV, Marc Brammer, has said that he is prepared to respond to any canonical question about the organization’s name “through competent ecclesiastical authority.” Since RealCatholic TV has its corporate base in South Bend, Indiana, that authority would be Bishop Kevin Rhoades—who has not made any comment on the question.

Brammer said that he has a contractual arrangement with Michael Voris to produce content for RealCatholic TV. Voris does his work from within the bound of the Detroit archdiocese, in Ferndale, Michigan. Both Brammer and Voris report that they have asked for a meeting with officials of the Detroit archdiocese to discuss their activities, but have received no reply.

I am saddended by the event of Real Catholic TV being forbidden to use the name “Catholic,” and I pray for both Michael Voris and the Archbishop of Detroit. I believe Michael is sincere in wanting to save souls. I also believe he is right about the danger many, if not all bishops face of being led here and there by their staffs and kept in the dark about the true problems of the diocese. Some bishops are stronger than others in establishing their own priorities. Certainly there is a huge spiritual battle going on for the souls of the bishops. The battle in Oakland was very fierce, and as then Bishop of Oakland, now Archbishop Vigneron fell and broke both arms. This is merely a physical phenomenon that could serve as a kind of sign of the fierce spiritual battle he and every other bishop in the world faces. The same must be true for men (‘men’ used in the inclusive, generic sense here) engaged in the Catholic news media. All of us posting on this thread must renew our efforts to pray and fast for our bishops and lay apostles. We need one another.

I am a great fan of Michael Voris and Real Catholic TV - even here down under in Australia; and I think it’s sad when the good work of RCTV is overlooked, and attention is focussed on the use of the word CATHOLIC. This is clearly someting Satan would rejoice in.

I agree with Cathy. Michael is doing a fantastic job, lets encourage him. We need to pray for him and his work, and of course also for the Archbishop of Detroit. And ALL bishops.

What other groups are in the archdiocese that are not receiving the say same treatment?

This is a red herring. The closing of parishes has nothing to do with this issue.
I did a good deal of research on this and could not find ANY other group that the AoD issued a cease and desist order to. What did you find Br?

Parrish closings having nothing to do with this issue??? With all do respect and charity. You have got to be kidding? As a lay father understanding this is instinctive in rearing children in the Faith. I am truly stunned. Our mission in Christ is to save as many souls as possible and this is done by proclaiming the Truth and not allowing the people around us to slide into the false beliefs of universalism or secularism.
.

Shocking, indeed. His use of sarcasm and rhetoric to rend the flesh (meaning of the word “sarcasm”) of his fellow Catholics while he touts his independence is unbelievable. I am glad that here at CAF such treatment of others is not permitted.

I wonder if it ever occurred to Mr. Voris that he might benefit from diocesan oversight, presenting his ministry in a manner more in keeping with the Catholic teaching on charity, and on the respect everyone’s good name deserves. In other words, reach people on a level of fact and intellect, confront sinners in love, and leave the shock jock stuff for the world.
Again, it is total lack of Charity to let someone around you to walk off a cliff and you not have the backbone to save them. “The luke warm, I will vomit out of my mouth”

My question to you was what otheer lay apostolates are base in the archdiocese that donot comply with the canons.

That the archdiocese has not donethis wit other groups is not the issue as there might not be any other lay apostolates based in the archdiocese or thifthere are they might be in compliance with canon law.

I am sorry but it is simple to see that the issue of parishes has nothing to do with making sure alay apostolate is in compliance with canon law. It is only used as a red herring to tarnish the archdiocese.

The issue is not about using the word CATHOLIC, it is about claiming to be a lay catholic apsotolate.

MODERATOR WARNING

This thread has wandered off topic.

This thread is about the statement regarding Real Catholic TV and its name, not the merits of any one individual.

Please return to the original topic or the thread will be closed

I’m so glad to hear that “real” Catholic TV could be peanalized. I’d love to see it shut down and Voris and others to stop speaking on behalf of the Catholic church. I see him as the epitome of what is wrong with the faith, and why people are leaving in droves.

He uses truth in a manipulitive and vicious way, badgering and belittling those who do not ascribe to every last one of his conservative ideas and treating them as if they are doctrine and not opinion. The rest of the so-called channel exaserbates the problem with status like 3rd grade facebook “If you don’t repost you hate Jesus” nonsense. It’s that sort of cult-like manipulation that drives me nuts.

The whole channel makes me ashamed to call myself Catholic. Such speech belongs in the dark ages with guillitines and rack torture devices. It feeds a monster of hate.

There is nothing redeeming about RCTV, nevermind Catholic. I wish that the Pauline Sisters in MA, the FFI’s in NY, the CFR’s in Arizona and NYC were able to really bring their message out. THEY are Catholic to the core. There are so many good, kind Catholics. Why focus on the bitter ones?

Credo111:
You said above that he “spreads dissension about the faith.” Where and how, praytell? I think what you mean to say is that he can be divisive–but Truth can be divisive. One must speak the truth anyway.
I would be glad to post it all, except this is not the topic. Maybe a new thread would be in order. Take a good look at Jimmy Akin’s podcast mentioned earlier in this thread, for starters. Later in the thread I posted the Freedom of Speech link, but kindlycommenting ion the beginning of the video where he vociferously verbalized disdain for “corrupt bishops” and “filth” in the Church. And this pertains to only 2 videos, which happen to be in this thread.
You fault him for having criticized “the majority of bishops” for failing to speak strongly against Obama.
Do you believe he was wrong in his information? If so, do you have evidence to present to us that the majority of bishops DID come out strongly against Obama?
I never said a single word about Obama. You are confusing me with someone else. Read the thread again, or do a search on my user name and “Obama.” You will find nothing.
As to your research, if you had done some more digging, you would see that Voris founded St. Michael’s Media in 2006, and that the company founded in 1997 was his TV production company. Michael didn’t even come back to the faith until around 2003 or so. You would also see that Marc Brammer has incorporated RCTV as a C-corp in South Bend, and that Voris is his employee.
You are mistaken. It sounds like you are strongly affiliated with RCTV. If so, then where is **your **documentation? I’ll respond further on this after I contact the State Departments. The photocopies reveal that RCTV was an assumed name of his production company. Are you familiar with filing and advertising requirements for a “ficticious name?” I’ve done it. There will be an audit trail.
Oh, and Cardinal Burke did indeed bless the studio itself, and not just that website.
Sure, but the date of the visit for the “Brides” website blessing (12-31-06) coincided with the date on your link (1-04-07), less than a week apart. I suspect the second video was fabricated afterwards, for many particulars are identical, including the little green tab on Bishop’s left lapel. While he was present to bless “Brides” it is not unimaginable that he would bless the facility. But in itself, the video you linked to is being used as commendation for Voris’s apostolate.

Sirach, my sister,

You are way too invested in this.

What has Michael V done to you personally?

Surely, he is not the most evil man in the world?

 Go to the expense of selling your home, moving your headquarters, on a possibility that permission will be given? And if the bishop would deny him, “for the sake of collegiality?” What does he gain?
First of all, moving a corporate headquarters does not involve selling a home or any other permutation. It involves getting a post office box and filing some legal paperwork.

If establishing a headquarters was such a big undertaking, there would be exactly zero grass growing in the state of Delaware (where many for-profit corporations “locate” due to tax advantages).

Hypothetically, if Mr. Voris wished to move his headquarters, all he’d have to do is take a plane trip (or a Greyhound trip) to Tulsa. Go to the local Mailboxes, etc. store and buy a mailbox (with instructions to forward the mail to the studios in Detroit). He would then need to file articles of incorporation with the State of Oklahoma. Once he’s done with all of that (about 2-3 days, max), he sends a letter to Bishop Slattery and asks permission to call RCTV “Catholic”. When Bishop Slattery sends his response (to the Mailboxes etc box…which is forwarded to Detroit), he’s done.

Total risk: less than $1,000.

Sirach:

“You are mistaken.”

No, my dear. RCTV is registered as an LLC in MI, whose agent is Voris, and is registered as a C-Corp in IN. But the owner of the whole enterprise is Brammer, and he decides what to name what he owns. His bishop is the one with jurisdiction.

“I never said a single word about Obama.”

No, but you linked to a Vortex video where Vortex criticized the bishops on the issue of Obama. You claim it was wrong for having criticized the bishops. So my questions still stand.

“It sounds like you are strongly affiliated with RCTV.”

LOL. If praying for this apostolate means I am “strongly affiliated” with RCTV, then I guess I’m strongly affiliated. 😉

God bless,
Christine

True Light:

I noticed you were just received into the Church this past September. Praised be Jesus Christ! And welcome home! Stay strong in the faith!

God bless,
Christine

Perhaps a canon lawyer could weigh in on this. It would seem reasonable that the bishop where the organization is rooted would have the jurisdiction. It would seem odd, though there could be a reason, that someone could live in one diocese and set up an organization in another diocese that that Ordinary has no authority over…
If praying for this apostolate…
Legitimate apostolates must maintain proper relationships to Church authority and obtain the consent of the lawful Church authority to call themselves “Catholic.”

If this has already been done, you’d think they’d simply say so…

Not so, Mark. There must be a physical address for the resident agent - PO Boxes aren’t allowed legally. There’s more red tape than you imagined. Let’s leave this up to the Church lawyers to sort through, ok?

sirach you said this a number of posts ago, yet a few posts later your contacting the state department and now you want others to leave it to the church ?
