I speak Greek, and this is exactly what the passage means. It says it is adultery to “look at a woman with the intention of lusting after her”.
The Latin Vulgate is much more accurate than any of those greek scripts in my opinion.

The Vatican only endorses the Latin Vulgate as the true Bible. I agree. I also find King James to be the absolute worst bible.

Theres no word as ‘lust’ in aramiach/old Hebrew so how can the greek say to lust. Actually the greek used back then was a regional dialect of ancient greek.

The Wycliffe bible is a middle English translation of the Latin Vulgate. The Latin Vulgate was made by Saint Jerome in Israel using latin. In the 1600’s it was directly coppied to the Wycliffe Bible by John Wycliffe. And it’s MUCH more accurate than anything else in my opinion. After the reformation they moved to a more Liberal Vulgate or Vulgate II that they based the Douye Rheems from. It is totally different than the old Latin Vulgate.

King James is litterally the worst translation in my opinion.

The Wycliffe bible is the first English translation translation of the Latin Vulgate which is the most occurate version of the Bible available in my opinion.

There was no ‘lust’ word back then. We take a hollywood trash view od the word lust and think of instant diety things. Also seeth means ‘sees a person as’. Not ‘to look’.
Cackles: The New Testament was written in Greek. I speak Greek. I read the Greek Bible. What you are saying is false. Ask any Greek scholar.

There is a Greek word for lust: epithumia. It does not mean to be “attracted”, or to find someone good looking and desirable. It means to derive sexual pleasure from them. The same word is often used to describe eating – in sexual contexts, it means to “feast your eyes on” someone. It would directly apply to pornography.
Guys. Think about what you are saying. You guys are seriosuly saying that Jesus claimed if we look at another woman and are turned on or attracted we commited adultry which is grounds for divorce and a serious eternal sin.
No. You are confusing attraction with lust. The Scriptures do not blame people for feeling good and holy sexual attractions. Moreover, in Matthew 5, Jesus is precisely talking about things that everyone does being sinful. He says that we should love our enemies, and he is saying that it is seriously wrong to express anger. It is a flawed understanding of sin to think that God condemns all the lustful or wrathful to hell – but he certainly condemns lust and wrath.
Come on. That is impossible because God gave us these appitties and said that it was good. He was pleased with his creation.
Show me in Scripture where God says lust is good.

Jesus said to the married man, that if he started to view another woman with longing, craving, desire (lust is not a good word just like ‘slave’ is not a good word for ‘bond servant’), then he might as well be commiting aduletey in his heart. But he is correct in that while it is not adultery, it is still a sin of the 10th commandment.
But do you know why Jesus said all this? Because the 10 commandments claim you can not covet someone elses wife. Fine.
The word used in Matthew 5 has NOTHING to do with coveting.
So to compare this serious stuff with looking at a girl or even (kosher) porn is silly in my opinion. It’s crazy to think people actually believe that looking at another attractive person and using Gods creation is sinful. That is the oldest church heresy i think. The people who became gnostics and went to egypt or something… Then feminism broke in quick and women started to see virginity as a blessing and sex evil. Very early heresies and cults.
You’re right that the early Church was very liberating to women – good for the early Church! 🙂

By Sodomy i mean the A word.
I can’t tell you how amusing I find it that, even though you think God likes it when men watch porn, you apparently have scruples against using the word “anal”.
There’s also a ‘wasting seed’ thing that is debatable or only applies to priests. I’ve never had an ex or known a woman that was into wasting seed. They all think it’s gross and so do I. So maybe theres a natural truth there. However, most schollars agree that it’s ok to waste seed.
Do you think ethics is majority rule?
God saw that it was good. Man was made for God in his image and he said that it was Good. Eve was made for man. But he never said it was good. Nor did he make her in Gods image.
This is heretical. “In the image of God He created them. Male and female he created them.”
Others are destined for other things like singers, actresses, bikini’s, porn, etc. it’s always been this way. Women are a special creation.
Man, I hope you are a troll.

Some women are “destined for bikinis”? Somehow, I think that’s man’s idea of destiny, not God’s.

False.

The Greek says lust.

The Vulgate says “concupiscendum”, which means “to long much for a thing, to be very desirous of, to covet, to aspire to, strive after”. In other words, to lust. (And please note that there are no qualifications about being married or unmarried. A single man who looks at a single women in order to “long for” or “desire” her is said to be committing sin with her in his heart.)

Your English translation of the Vulgate, in this case, is deceptive.

Wow you actually delved deeper into this issue of meaning. That shows your serious about searching for truth. I have to say that’s impressive and very admireable. It shows that you dont place your ego above truth (doing this is self idolatry).

Judging by your responses your at a ‘first grade’ level of biblical and theological understanding which isnt surprising. If you keep going you’ll find a whole other version of Christianity and everything you thought will be broken down. Look on google images for ‘Vulgate chart’ and see for yourself the legitimacy of the Wycliffe Bible. Go see howm many times it translations happened. Read Matthew 5 and the Rabbi clearly claims it in the context of marriage. Coveting only means wanting something that belongs to someone else. Read the 10th commandment. See this is basic studf you dont understand. If both are single then its NORMAL for people to want each other lol… This is so crazy to even be talking about this.

In todays day and age you have to search for everything yourself as an English speaker. The last truth you’ll find left on real Biblical law in English is Jewish sources and some imams. The white anglo church has fallen into some political, feminist, darwinist, human rights, women rights association. Feminism is Secular Humanism. No difference. That is another religion.

If you ever see the word ‘human’ or ‘them’ or a general inclusivity of both sexes, than treat it as suspicion and refer to the Wycliffe. When the Bible says ‘man’ they usually mean it.

Myself i’m married with 2 kids and today going to BBQ in my yard and have a couple of beers with my wife. I don’t remember when i last saw porn or who i last checked out. But did i look at other girls when we went out? I SURE DID!! Did i covet and all that serious stuff? Lol no not even close. When you covet in real life you’ll know the difference. The video is a good example. Coveting another is a curse that can last for years. Im glad i wont have some other woman at work on my mind this weekend while Im BBQ’ing. That is the real curse of coveting. Adultery is grounds for divorce and a mortal sin I believe. The hurt you cause everyone else will be dealt back to you in hell. It also destroys societies and future generations. Feminism is at the center of all this.

Let the boys be boys, and the woman have their…, both can keep it private and to themselves. This not sinful and or damaging to the marriage. I can assure you that new age secular humanist feminism and councelling is very, very destructuve to the marriage. If the husban like girls in bikini’s and such let him enjoy Gods creation.

Being righteous is relative to your own personal circumstances that only God knows. Today we have porn at our finger tips with a click and a society that says it’s OK as well as probably most mainstream laity. So God knows our challenges and the society around us.

The problem is the original rules on these matters are deemed as anti-women and archaic.

God commands man and woman to become one flesh and multiply. Look at the bright side. How many people these days are doing this at a young age? If you are married, you are fulfilling a commandment from God. Making the marriage work by counselling and trying to solve problems is also something very admirable in today’s world.

What I’m saying is, in today’s world, the fact that he’s only looking at bikini’s and such is a good thing when all is considered. I’m not sure how young he is, but the younger you are, the less God expects from him because after all, this all in relation to his knowledge of right in wrong. In the old days he would have been working with his Dad and explaining to him what is right and wrong. Today things are much different.

Well I’d say that most guys do watch porn from time to time and the stats actually show this. It’s more likely he’s seeing porn in today’s day and age more than ever. Keep in mind the phones with color screens are literally less than 10 years old compared to all of humanity. There is no more policing.

I’d suggest that porn is not sin as long as the porn is ‘kosher’ and it doesn’t interfere with his family life (meaning she doesn’t know). When he gets older and wiser he’ll cool off. This is temporary.

The thing with the wife is complex. The wife has the power to override almost anything the man does, including even the works for God. An example: A preacher can go out and convert souls all day long. But, if the wife objects to the husband being away from the home doing these things, then all the blessings from the conversions are cancelled because you neglected your home duties first. This is one reason why marriage is often not recommended for priests. The wife has the ability to over ride the needs of the church.

So you’re saying that you don’t like girls on Facebook or porn. While those things might not be a sin, you still have the power to override these actions. But are those actions really causing your household grief? Or is it something else that’s a greater problem?

Counselling is trusting in other people to solve your problems. The marriage and household has rules and roles. Most of these are not discussed in today’s world due to feminism.

But just know that being a woman you are cursed (like men). Part of your curse from God was that you would bear children in pain and want to rule over your husband. Your husband is the head and he needs to take a leadership role and know his responsibilities. For instance, he’s not allowed to say that you are like your mother. He’s not allowed to compliment another woman in front of you. He has to look presentable around the house and vice verse. He can’t be stingy and hold his wife accountable and check receipts and criticize everything they buy. There’s a lot of other stuff too like your husband is not allowed to touch another woman. That includes rubbing shoulders. He’s not allowed to be close enough to another woman that she can feel his breath.

But, he’s the head. If he knew the rules of his role (which includes almost daily religious study), then you would likely not care if he was admiring other women. When I’m doing a bad job as a husband, I notice my wife is more ‘sensitive’ to other girls being around. They parade around half naked in front of men. We’re going to look just like women look. The Muslims tell men to lower their gaze. Meaning, don’t make eye contract. You can check someone out, but don’t get into a back and forth thing and make eye contact.

There’s Jewish and Catholic scripture that I can go into that would be considered very, very anti-woman lol… At one time people might have said that as a woman you have an evil side to you and you have the potential to give life, but also destroy it. What he does as the head matters on how you behave in the marriage. As a woman you have a natural holiness to you that’s another topic though. You don’t actually need the teachings but the man does. When a man has a crisis in life it’s always a crisis of faith. But since you are married, you are one with your husband and will reflect back what he’s giving you. God sees both of you as a family unit. Divorce is not an option. This would be like amputating yourself. Counseling is looking to man for solutions. And actually I think it’s against the rules to tell personal things about your marriage to anyone outside your religious father. I’m not sure on that one.

God made man attracted to other woman and said ‘it was good’. He was pleased with this. Are you saying that you really don’t like the girls to that extent? Or is it something deeper because I promise admiring beauty is a gift from God and not a sin.

So this is why I’m asking if there’s something more. Is he friends with other women? Does he talk to other girls? DOES he have a CO-WORKER at work? Does he play video games all night and not talk to you? Do you hate your in-laws or vice verse? These are all real problems. But honestly pics on computers on facebook are small things. Maybe you guys are just really righteous and you want perfection. (Chasing perfection in your marriage or potential spouse is not allowed because only God can give perfection.)
Sigh…

Tl;dr

Read the first paragraph, realized that it is terrible advice. Time to step back and rethink your life.

Edit: Make that first 5. 😛

Gee, that’s condescending. Nice talking with you. Enjoy your misogyny.

I’ll be praying for your wife.

Safe Eyes is not available in the US for the iphone. Any other suggestions?
Was the restriction just that the person who owns it had to Ok it being on the device? My son is SOL if that is the case.
Covenant Eyes will allow you to look at his searches, etc. If you go that route, I would suggest you put it on yours so you both can look over together esp since he has no diagnosis yet.
IF he is ever diagnosed, he should have an accountability partner. That doesn’t mean you don’t get to pick up his device nor get emails stating his searches. We are their spouses, not cops. He has to be in charge of his recovery, want to.

The medical field, drs, are finally getting with the connection of ED and porn use. IOW, in the near future, they should be asking some questions for those coming in (young healthy) who are having problems to weed out other things/get to the bottom of it.

Did she chastise you for snooping?

So a married woman belongs to her husband and clearly, by your logic, an unmarried woman ‘belongs’ to about 3.5 billion ‘husbands’ who are all free to leer at her at will?

No - an unmarried person, male or female, belongs to him or herself and God alone. They are no more free for you or anyone to covet than the shoes on his or her feet or the money in his or her wallet.

Yes, since we are not supposed to do that.

“2351 Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.”

2521 Purity requires modesty, an integral part of temperance. Modesty protects the intimate center of the person. It means refusing to unveil what should remain hidden. It is ordered to chastity to whose sensitivity it bears witness. It guides how one looks at others and behaves toward them in conformity with the dignity of persons and their solidarity.

2522 Modesty protects the mystery of persons and their love. It encourages patience and moderation in loving relationships; it requires that the conditions for the definitive giving and commitment of man and woman to one another be fulfilled. Modesty is decency. It inspires one’s choice of clothing. It keeps silence or reserve where there is evident risk of unhealthy curiosity. It is discreet.

2523 There is a modesty of the feelings as well as of the body. It protests, for example, against the voyeuristic explorations of the human body in certain advertisements, or against the solicitations of certain media that go too far in the exhibition of intimate things. Modesty inspires a way of life which makes it possible to resist the allurements of fashion and the pressures of prevailing ideologies.

It is sad that women, in particular, are brainwashed into thinking that exposing 90% of their skin is somehow OK. And men are more reactive to this sort of stimulation than women.

Peace,
Ed
Some women often pose this way because they get validation from men.
Any attention,in their view, equals to love.
So it continues because they always get affirmative messages from men.
Eg:men will often comment “your hot” (or similar comment).

O.P I think it might be time for your husband to get some new friends so he can get a wider outlook on life.

If it’s a real addiction then the porn will be non-kosher that’s for sure. How about this. He can watch the porn and girls if it’s kosher if you dont notice at all. The porn addiction is a time consuming thing most of all. It has to interfear with in his daily life to be considered a problem. It cant be something that you want to label him.

Why would you shame and embaress your husband taking him to Doctors like he’s sick. He’ll withdraw and shut down as a man. Why are you guys doing this to your husbands for?

Your husbands need to have the fear if God in him. Once this is accomplished anything is possible. All you need to do is place a mary statue watching him and he’ll behave lol…

This forum is very, very Liberal and Secular Humanist to say the least. It loves modern science, new age councelling, feminism, women rights. When did things get like this?

If you believe or suspect your husband is addicted, both you and he may find help from a CSAT (Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist). They are trained, licensed professional counselors who understand that for an addict NO use of porn is ok. They also help the spouse not feel “crazy” because of the addict’s blaming and manipulative behavior (“all men do it!”)

Some therapists will use webcams for long-distance therapy if there is not a CSAT close to you.

Modern feminism has a lot to answer for, true, but modern science is hardly a terrible thing overall - the rich irony of your use of electricity, the computer and Internet to abuse the modern science that gave you those very tools is extremely amusing.

A married woman is under her husbands authority and headship (1 Corinthians 11). This is why a woman covers her head, and why real Jews and Muslims cover their head. It’s to show they are under headship of someone else. This is why many muslims women actually wear a hijab after marriage. All Catholics used to cover their head until feminism destroyed the Church 30 years ago. And Im talking all through history. Even up till Jackie Kennedy.

The Christian man does not cover his head because he is made in Gods glory and has free will. The Church Father actually is like a Jew in that he covers his head because he’s under headship of God. He stands beside Jesus in authority so to speak so he covers his head.

The layperson Christian does not cover his head because he’s not under headship. Not the woman. She is under headship to her Husband. The same in Ismal and Judaism. I appologize if these tried and true teachings directly from the Bible disagree with your new fangled feminist, Secular humanist viewpoints, but that is the truth of the matter.

A man is obligated to get married. A woman is not obligated. A man is obligated to have 1 son, a woman has no obligation to have children. Why? Because there millions more women than men in the world and likely always has been.

When a woman is not married, she’s called an orphan. Without a man the woman has no meaning to her life because God created her to be mans helper. This is what she does naturally. Her only other option is to be a bride of God and do the lords work.

But there is another type of woman, who is… Nah I’ll skip those teachings. Lets say that like some men are gay and will never be cut out for a straight and narrow life, some women arent cut out for marriage either. If you are a woman, you must aks if you’re a wife, or… Well… The other type of woman. Ohh… I’d love to shock you with some of the early writings.

With Islam it’s easy. If she wears a hijab, she’s lifetime wife material. The head covering brings out the best of a woman. With women modesty and outward appearance is amongst the most important thing.

What kind of woman are you? Take your pick because you’re one or the other:

One more time, there is no such thing as kosher porn. Pornography is the looking at women/men with the intent to be aroused thus using them as an object of gratification. It is an offense against God’s law as we are made in his image and likeness including women.

You evidently do not understand the addictive nature of porn. You may not suffer from this. Be thankful. But you do not know what you are talking about. An addict will be the last person who says, Oh, gee, I have a problem! They usually end up getting help when they have lost their families, jobs, homes, etc - rock bottom.

Knowing when to get help is wisdom. Knowing their is something wrong in your marriage is not humiliating your spouse unnecessarily.

I look at it like cancer or diabetes. Sometimes these symptoms occur when you have it, let’s just check you out and see if that is the case.

Which of course is why St Paul says that it would be better if everyone could be unmarried like him 🙂

See I can quote tried and true scripture as well. And read absolutely nothing in it that permits anyone to use any sort of pornography at all.

By the way, do you adhere to all the ‘tried and true’ scriptures in Leviticus about stoning adulterers and disobedient children to death, not eating shellfish or pork and the like?

Again, whose authority is an unmarried woman under? Either you are making the absurd claim that every unmarried woman you leer at or see in a porno film is somehow under your authority, which must mean she is equally under the authority of every man who gazes at her, which is utter rubbish, or you must accept that unmarried women are NOT under your authority and therefore NOT your property or a suitable object for your pornographic/lustful/wilfully sexual gaze.

Having lived in a Muslim country, I can say the men had no respect for women at all. They were listed as chattel, objects, property. That is not something, a virtue, to imitate.
Also, if I ever meet the Muslim man who thought he had permission to touch me, if I meet him in the US, he will have an understanding of what is his and what isn’t by the time I am through. Of course, I told the Muslim man I could only get in trouble if you could still speak by the time I was through.
