In 2000, German philologist Christoph Luxenberg published a book arguing that the word huri actually signifies white grapes. He based his interpretation on Christian descriptions of Paradise in the Aramaic language, in which the etymologically related word huri has a different meaning than in Arabic, the language of the Qur’an.

If not grapes, Muslim males are promised 72 translucent beings when they are in heaven. They are not 72 real human virgins.
That is funny, it seems that learning Quran commentary from non Arabic Muslim is like learning Christianity from the Arabs who were early with Muhammed.

However, the official commentaries by all 4 authentic commentators clearly show that it means a female for sexual pleasure.

Yea I have a question…

Why did Muhammad have sex with a 9 year old? Isn’t that like rape? Why couldn’t he have had sex with a 19-79 year old…but a 9 year old…that’s disgusting.
Even he wanted to marry a much younger than that poor 6 years Aisha:
مسند أحمد:
أن رسول الله ‏ ‏صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ ‏رأى ‏ ‏أم حبيبة بنت عباس ‏ ‏وهي فوق الفطيم قالت فقال ‏ ‏لئن بلغت بنية ‏ ‏العباس ‏ ‏هذه وأنا حي لأتزوجنها

…If a Christian or a Jew or even a Hindu believes in the oneness of God, will that be acceptable to Allah.’
Hindus & Christians believe in 3 in 1 God . It’s a blasphemy in Islam . Jews rejected several Prophets of God & killed them . If anyone offers his/her true repentance before death approaches , then God Willing s/he will be forgiven.

And God Knows Best.

Tabari IX:69 “Killing disbelievers is a small matter to us.” Killing is a big deal, why is it a small matter to Muslims? No wonder, they are constantly killing others. When they’re killing others, they turn on each other.
**MugenOne, You have given English version (translation) i.e. a very brief sentence of a hadith. I wonder what is the word for “Disbeliever” in that Hadith. If it is Kafir, then please know that Kafir is liable to be killed. Because Kafir is an open well known enemy of Islam.

Kafir is already on the war path, ready to kill the Muslims and to harm Islam. He is not a believer. He/She is a lunatic, fanatic, hostile disbeliever. We have two types of nemies:
  1. The Kafir, i.e. open disbelievng persons, trying to harm Islam. They are Kafirs. They are outside the fold of Islam. They are like the dare-devil, called Al-Shaitan.
  2. The Munafiq, i.e. the enemy who is an apparant believer sitting amongst the Muslims and tries to harm Islam in every way. He is like the simple devil, the Iblis.
So please check up if the word Kafir is there in that Hadith from Tabari. You will not find any order to kill any peaceful person of any religion. I know, according to bibleNT, you love the rascals. But that is never good for humanity. And nobody does that practically in the world. Look around you.**

**parabol, the reply to the first part is “No.”

About the second part, Islam means peace, safety, comfort and security. “Any one believing in God and accountability of the hereafter and doing good deeds has nothing to fear of the past or the future.” That is in brief in my own words. But see real verse 2:62 in Quran.

One has to be peaceful to be a Muslim. All the religions taught peace, i.e. Islam. That is Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam all taught Peacefulness.

The verse you have quoted is correct and true. But the word Islam there is in wide and wise sense. If any one does not believe in muhammad but remains peaceful person then he will not be harmed. Let us say that no man will harm him/her. He/she will also have some reward with God.

But real pleasure and safety is in believing in the prophet Muhammad. Otherwise God will ask him in the next life about it. It is an important principle of Islam that all religious people should believe in all prophets of God. There is no need to oppose any messenger of God. If any will do that bad act then surely they will suffer in the end.

That narrow minded belief of people will spoil their life and it will affect them badly in this world too. So they are bound to commit bad deeds. You can probably understand the rest of the situation. No ill advice is intended.

Thank you for the interesting answers!

Should a non-Muslim give their life to save another’s (Muslim or not) does that affect how they are judged?

and 😛 should ‘muslim’ be spelt with a capital ‘M’?

**Parabol, I am not sure how Muslim should be spelt. The Microsoft Word ask me to write “Muslim” and not “muslim”. If christian or hindu can be okay then muslim should be okay too.

About saving a life, in Islam, it is essential that all Muslims strive hard to save the life of Muslims and Hindus and Christians and Jews and all. That is their duty. It is written in the Quran that if any one will save a life, it wil be as if he had saved all humanity.**

Anything specific on killing yourself to prevent someone else dying?

Oh and as modern farming methods and sterilization makes pork as safe to eat as other meats, do any Muslims question whether ham is forbidden to eat?

Sorry if my questions are very trivial 🙂

Anything specific on killing yourself to prevent someone else dying?
It’s a complicated question. Why would that issue ever come up? Deliberate suicide, and sacrifice–i.e., risking one’s life–aren’t necessarily the same thing.
Oh and as modern farming methods and sterilization makes pork as safe to eat as other meats, do any Muslims question whether ham is forbidden to eat?
Only if the make the mistake you have. Muslims don’t abstain from pork because of sanitation, but because Allah commanded it. That reason alone is why it’s forbidden (i.e., Allah forbade it), and why it won’t change.

… do any Muslims question whether ham is forbidden to eat?
It’s a command of God Almighty not to eat pork. So , believers must not challenge God & should obey Him.

Pork- prohibited in Qur’an

The Qur’an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. Its prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115.

Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked a name other than that of Allah. [Al-Qur’an 5:3]

The above verses of the Holy Qur’an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden

…Some may argue that in advanced countries like Australia, pigs are bred in very clean and hygienic conditions. Even in these hygienic conditions the pigs are kept together in sties.

No matter how hard you try to keep them clean they are filthy by nature. They eat and enjoy their own as well as their neighbour’s excreta.

Annie - India: why the Palestinians and the Israelis have been fighting for so long? …Is it related to the Catholic/Protestant faith, Judaism and Islam?

Counselor: Shahul Hameed

…In the Bible, in the Book of Genesis there is a verse which reads: "And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee…(Gen. 17:8)

Jews argue that they are the people to whom God or Jehovah gave Palestine as an everlasting possession, that is because they claim to be the Children of Abraham through Isaac.

But here they ignore Ishmael, the first son of Abraham, and his children. (The Arabs are the Children of Ishmael). They deny the right of Ishmael saying that he was the son of a slave woman

In fact, in the Torah itself it is clearly stated that the firstborn should get double portion of his father’s share, even when his mother has a lower status.

"If a man has two wives… he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn: " (Deut. 21: 15 to 17)

even if we appeal to the Torah, the Jewish religious book, the Jews have no exclusive right to the Land of Palestine.

…present day Israelis are mostly European Jews who have migrated to Palestine. They have settled there ousting the original people, massacring them, or making them refugees in their own land.

…Since the homes of the Palestinians are being demolished by the Israelis every day and in the same place houses for Jews are being constructed, the Palestinians continue their ineffectual struggle.

…The Palestinians pelt stones at the occupying army; and the stone-throwers get shot down.

Really it is not a fight between Islam and Judaism. Yet, questions of religion come up from time to time.

Mohammed mentioned Jesus and this is recorded in Quran. How did Mohammed know Jesus considering that the former was born 500 years or so after the latter?

Also, Muslims consider Jesus as a prophet. What teachings of Jesus do the Muslims observe?

Has there been a follower of Mohammed since the existence of Islam who died to save the lives of Muslims and those belonging to other religions?

Do Muslims believe Allah to be the Saviour? in what sense?

We often hear Muslims saying that God sent prophets to teach monotheism. Actually this is a very narrow understanding of God’s message. God actually had a plan for salvation, starting Genesis, ending with Revelation. The whole scriptures focus not on God being One, but on God’s salvation regardless of whether people understood the nature of God or not, after all, no one can fully grasp who God is, but we can clearly understand His plan for salvation repeated by one prophet after another, with countless prophecies.

Praise the Lord: praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Our God is a God who saves! The sovereign Lord rescues us from death. (Psalm 68:19,20)

People cannot redeem themselves from death by paying a ransom to God. Redemption does not come so easily. For no one can ever pay enough to live forever and never see the grave. (Psalm 49:1-9)

This Psalm show that redemption is not based on human’s efforts because no one can “pay enough”.

We know that Muslims believe in a balance of good and bad deeds, but we might ask a question that focuses on good deeds, “How many good deeds must one do?” This was the main concern in the mind of the Jewish religious leaders. They asked Jesus, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” (John 6:28) The idea in the back of their minds was that good works contribute merit points towards the supreme objective of entering heaven. Jesus surprised them when He simply said, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” (John 6:29). Jesus is simply saying, believe in My salvation because “those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” (John 4:14)

Isaiah prophesied a day of future deliverance when death and tears will be no more,

In Jerusalem the LORD … will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign LORD will wipe away all tears. … In that day the people will proclaim, “This is our God! We trusted in him and he saved us! This is the LORD in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!” (Isaiah 25:7-9)

The same author prophecizes:

You will do more than restore the people of Israel to me. I will make you a light to the Gentiles and you will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.

This is a messianic prophecy where Jesus in Jerusalem “swallowed up death forever” and brought salvation to the ends of the earth but Muslims do not believe in what Jesus did, they reject, willingly or ignorantly, His salvation.

Scriptures are in harmony, there is a plan, there are prophecies of salvation, there are fulfilments. The OT and NT bear witness to the same Spirit that weaved this eternal Plan of salvation.

Muslims, on the other hand, believe in the Quran. Fine, but the Quran lacks the theme coherence of the OT and NT. The Quran attacks Jews and Christians’ beliefs, quotes some OT and NT passages, some apocrypha and Mishna, but what is the theme? Where is salvation that God promised in the OT and fulfilled in the NT in the person of the Messiah? what did Muhammad do to fulfill the salvation of God prophecized? what did Muhammad do that other prophets did not do? what is the role of Muhammad in the coherent theme of the Biblical salvation?where does Muhammad fit in the eternal Messianic covenant? claiming corruption is refuted by the coherence of both OT and NT. Jews will not corrupt and as a result Jesus fulfills “corruption”. Claiming is easy, but the clarity of God’s plan and the coherence of His words bear witness against messing with His plan, after all, He said He thwarts the plans of the wicked.

So I heard something about 70 virgins and 2 young boys. What’s up with the 2 young boys? What are you supposed to do with them? And is it true about bonus stuff in the afterlife if you blow yourself up during Ramadan? I don’t mean “is it true” like I’ll actually believe it’s true. Within the context of a false religion, though, is it true?

To explain more about coherence and prophecies, take the example of Abraham’s sacrifice. Muslims all over the world offer sacrifices as a “remembrance” of Abraham’s “test”. Actually, Abraham’s sacrifice is a forshadowing, it wasn’t a meaningless test to show his “submission”, the NT explains it as a foreshadowing of what God Himself will do that humans cannot do.

Take another example, the birth of Jesus. In Islam, it is devoid of any theological theme. it just happened.

Take the example of the crucifixion, it just did not happen because Allah wanted so and we don’t know what “it appeared as such” means.

Take the example of Jesus’ return, to lead humans to Islam. Jesus has been “living” for thousands of years, only Jesus, to come back and lead humans to Islam but Muhammad will not. theological absurdity .

Take the example of OT prophecies of Messianic salvation, they have no place in Islam except that Jesus is called the Messiah but God know what it means.

Take the example of the eternal Messianic covenant of the OT fulfilled by Jesus and His apostles to spread it to the world, yet Muhammad, not Jesus, came to humanity while the Quran was written to Muhammad’s “folks in Arabic so that they understand”. Historical and theological blunder.

There is no coherence in Islam but beliefs from here and there without any theme or coherence, as if God makes things happen randomly. There is simply a claim of corruption, and Muhammad had to “clear doubts”. What kind of corruption is that that has a whole salvation theme in OT and NT written by different people that Muhammad did not fulfill? since when does God allow thousands of prophet’s messages to disappear off the planet just to send one man without any scriptural witness to claim things? There is wisdom in OT and NT, there are prophecies and fulfillments and theme coherence that the Quran, despite its “poetry”, failed to parallele and Muslims seem to conjure up theories after theories to what the Bible has already revealed coherently, like a puzzle.

Are hadiths authoritative to Muslims?
Hadiths in general teach the Muslims two main things, first, how to perform the Islamic rituals (obligatory), and second, how Muhammed used to live (actions and customs, aka Sunnah) which is not obligatory.

And there are only some authentic hadith collectors which Muslims recognize, for example, Muslims in SA fully recognize 9 collections of hadith, and that differs between Muslim-Sunnah and Muslim-Sheat.

More information about hadiths here.

What’s up with the 2 young boys? What are you supposed to do with them?
They are mentioned in (Quran 56:17) & (Quran 76:19), and they are not only 2, because the verse in Quran is plural, so they could be hundreds, however, here is the commentary by one of the authentic commentators:

Tafsir al-Jalalayn for (Quran 56:17):
They will be waited on by immortal youths, resembling young boys, never ageing;

Tafsir al-Jalalayn for (Quran 76:19):

And they will be waited upon by immortal youths, [immortally] in the form of youths, never ageing, whom, when you see them you will suppose them, because of their beauty and the way in which they are scattered about [offering] service, to be scattered pearls, [strewn] from their string, or from their shells, in which they are fairer than [when they, the pearls, are] otherwise [not in their shells].
And is it true about bonus stuff in the afterlife if you blow yourself up during Ramadan? I don’t mean “is it true” like I’ll actually believe it’s true. Within the context of a false religion, though, is it true?
There are special bonuses for religious stuff in Ramadan like performing one Omra would equal to performing one Haj, and praying in the last 10 days of it, but I never heard of the bonus you mentioned!
