So Our Lord in His providence provided your dad with a catholic priest, and catholic eucharist in an emergency situation; being near death
Yea, he died about a month later of receiving the Eucharist. From what my mother told me recently, he never even tried annulment from the church. He didn’t want to deal with anything that had to do with his ex-wife. He met my mother 5 years after his divorce. His ex remarried and divorced two more times.

He played by most of the rules and never received the Eucharist again for 30 years till upon death.

In my dad’s circumstances, if my dad would of seeked an annulment, anybody think he would of been granted?

Of course, none of us can know for certain. It seems obvious to me that there are marriages out there that are null, even if a couple didn’t seek an annulment. So, while I would certainly encourage people to pursue that path if they have been divorced and remarried, for those who did not for whatever reason, I leave it to God to sort it out.

Your dad was able to receive the Eucharist in the end. That’s the important thing.

Just let me say that I tend to agree with you, and I think that part of the problem is that we have people in the church with political agendas that simply don’t want to have anything to do with what they may call “the social gospel”, so PF’s teachings that we must aid the poor and the disenfranchised and have love and compassion for all isn’t what they want to hear.

To put it bluntly, many believe some things about Jesus but are not wiling to live in Jesus, and I can cite Jesus’ Parable of the Sheep & Goats and the Sermon On the Mount as just two sources of why this is essential in Catholicism.

Well narrow is the path that leads to eternal life.

“Look upon the poor with compassion and Jesus will look kindly upon you on your last day.”

– St. Mary of the Cross

BTW, if I find the time tomorrow and remember (hey, I’m 73 so cut me some slack here!), I’ll tell yas of a true account of what led me to convert to Catholicism from my fundamentalist Protestant church because I ran across someone that showed me the way 50 years ago that I have never forgotten. Needless to say, she changed my life.

Would someone please comment on this, even if it’s just to say “boo”, as a reminder for me to get back with yas then?

Wow, 50 years Catholic. Pretty amazing. You were what 23 when you switched teams?

It is hard to accept…my wife came from a Protestant background…she was also divorced…her husband walked out on her because he had found another woman…he didn’t want mediation…just wanted to marry the other woman…my wife was devastated and took a long time to recover…then she went and married a Catholic…lol…me…she did obtain an annulment…it was very painful for her recalling everything from her former marriage …took 16 months…even her last remaining sister refused to be a witness for her first marriage because she was pretty much anti-Catholic…that deeply hurt my wife…but she got through it eventually and now embraces her Catholic faith wholeheartedly…I understand the Orthodox church does allow divorce and remarriage…I don’t know the details but believe it is still treated in a very solemn way

What you see as an attack really isnt, just because many Catholics disagree with the Pope, isnt the same as attacking. I disagree on almost everything he says as I believe he is wrong. That not an attack that is my opinion based upon my 57 years of living in the real world

Whether he has changed the teaching or not, he has changed the discipline… guidelines promulgated for the Diocese of Rome itself, in the wake of AL, do allow for the civily divorced and remarried to receive under certain circumstances. His Holiness’ letter to the Argentine bishops also made his position clear. This talk of ambiguity is simply false. The Holy Father HAS changed the discipline in Rome.
Whether the discipline has changed in your diocese is up to your local bishop. The Holy Father made his position clear but has not bound his brother bishops.

Well maybe the Pope has taken a closer look at the Orthodox Churches who also are from the 12 Apostles also and taken their example.

Pope Francis is basing his opinions on 81 years of living in the real world AND 60 years of in-depth study of Church history, Church teaching, and theology.

If I posted what I based my OP on, then you’d understand. I’m not going to post a video of someone viciously slandering our Pope for all to see.

The praxis of the Eastern Churches was specifically brought up by Cardinal Kasper when he first proposed what the Holy Father has since implemented.

Please by all means give me a quote of Jesus, or one of his disciples that advocate for the forced removal of wealth (and not that particular, over quoted, misinterpreted Gospel reading AKA give unto Caesar) Or the teachings which advocates for the ethnic replacement of a native population. All too often the left will try and infuse their politics with Christianity in a attempt to guilt conservatives into socialism.
Bergoglio
😂🤣 oh no

Eh?

Jesus was pretty clear that wealth is an impediment to attaining Heaven.
