So only those who are ”pure” white are white, but both ”pure” blacks and mixed people are black? That seems a bit racist to be honest. Why comtinue using such a classification system? I mean, the child of a european father and a native american mother wasn’t considered indian but mestizo.

But… why? Why isn’t he white? Please explain so a non-american can understand.
Because in America such a person is considered ‘non-white’.

" Negro blood is sure powerful — because just one drop of black blood makes a colored man. One drop—you are a Negro!.. Black is powerful." – Langston Hughes

Actually, maybe a Metis in Canada or a Mulata in South America.

I can understand that he is non-white, but he ought to be non-black as well. If black ancestry disqualifies him from being white, then white ancestry should disqualify him from being black.

Again, that’s not how “black” is commonly understood in America.

So blackness is determined by what exactly?

Also, why is Kamala Harris called african american and not indian american?

Black ancestry does not qualify one from being white. People are free to choose their race. On a job application a person can put what they want as race. We are not allowed to make that determination.

My husband is a mestizo from South America, at least in his country that is what they call themselves.

So you can chose your race for yourself? I thought Rachel Dolezeal made people upset because she pretended to be black.

The EEOC has a rule that if you are obviously stating a wrong identification, an employer can change it.

Tiger Woods identifies himself as ‘multi-racial’. However, Dave Chappelle traded him on behlaf of black folks long ago.

I mean, if your point is that the way we categorize people racially isn’t super logical, then yeah, of course.

Nothing about race in America seems to make sense…

Made me wondering: my husband is, as I said, mestizo from South America and I am white. What race would our daughter be considered in the US?

I understand that race is a man-made concept, but it just seems so arbitrary.

Don Lemon, CNN even questioned Kamala as being African American. Just look it up.

I have a friend who is of Mexican descent and she looks like any other Caucasian person (to me at least) - yet recently on Facebook she referred to herself as a ‘woman of color’. Go figure.

If she looks obviously not 100% white, people would probably say “mixed race.”

The good news is these concepts are kind of eroding. There are so many more people these days of mixed race (including my own kids) that people are kind of waking up to the idea that neat racial categories are dumb.

because in America, reality no longer matters. Only your “feelings” matter. Elizabeth Warren falsely claimed being Native American and she was getting a lot of votes for the Democrat nomination.

It seems like more and more race IS being used to discriminate. Asians are being discriminated against on college admittances. Some people are demanding the hiring be based on race, favoring one race over another.
