Being an “ex-pat” of the Peoples Republic of Chicago I am well aware of a phenomena that has people equating support for a particular political party to being a fan of a Major League Baseball Team. Too many Catholics find it more important to support the Democratic party without exception becuase its what their grandma and grand dad did.
Its appaling and it is how such corrupt regimes continue to rule in places like Chicago and Illinois.

Well now that baseball is on topic I wanted to know if Cubs fans like us Astro’s fans are eagerly awaiting the start of spring training? As a fan of the Cubs I would expect, nay demand that an Astro’s fan not cheer for a division rival, so I am good with you not pulling for the enemy.

That is your personal opinion but not the opinion given by some of the Catholic priests who voted for Obama. These priests have gone to Roman Catholic seminaries and received Church training in Catholic teaching. So they know what they are talking about.

Not to turn this into the Catholic Answers Sports Page, but nothing wrong with cheering for your team and there is nothing wrong when someone cheers against them. I will say that the Cubs and Cards are now paying for the foolishness of spending lots of money on too few players.

RESPONSE: Media smears both Nixon and Chambers. Nixon, nominated for VP on Eisenhower’s ticket in 1952, is accused of unethical behavior in a “scandal” that involves a fund in which wealthy supporters pay for travel expenses. Nixon is forced to defend himself on television. Opponent Adlai Stevenson has same kind of fund, media doesn’t care.
1951: William F. Buckley, Jr.’s first book, God and Man at Yale, is published.
RESPONSE: Among a list of of charges, Buckley is accused of being a Nazi, a Fascist, a Stalinist and…oh yes…simply obnoxious.
1964: Barry Goldwater is nominated for president by the GOP, beginning of the modern conservative movement success in presidential politics.
RESPONSE: Goldwater is accused of wanting to drop nuclear weapons on Vietnam, racism, mental instability, in need of a psychiatrist, supporting violence, and being a Nazi sympathizer.

RESPONSE: Reagan is accused of being an extremist, a nut, a member of the John Birch Society, an idiot, stupid, dumb a Fascist and a racist.

I’ve been trying without success to get the transcript of the entire Bill Mahr television program.
Because … there is more to it … some kind of context.
She was on his television program something like 19 times.
[What was so special about Christine O’Donnell as a 29 or 30-year-old that made it so compelling that she, as a complete unknown, appear on Bill Mahr’s television program, not once, but 19 times or thereabouts?]
Here are some of her other statements regarding that particular appearance:
Delaware Republican Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell responded to old clips that surfaced over the weekend where she said she had once “dabbled in witchcraft,” clarifying at a GOP picnic in Delaware Sunday, “I was in high school, how many of you didn’t hang out with questionable folks in high school? But no, There’s been no witchcraft since, if there was, Karl Rove would be a supporter.”
The 1999 tape from “Politically Incorrect” first surfaced Friday when Bill Maher aired it on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” saying he would keep airing clips until she appeared on his show.
“Bill wanted ratings, I gave him ratings,” O’Donnell said.
[So, it seems like … she was acting like Bill Mahr’s publicist … or as his marketing person … [was she being paid for her appearances??] … and she turned a movie-date with a dopey kid who was into goth stuff into some kind of wicca meeting.]
Local Republicans seemed un-phased by the latest clip, which followed other television interviews that surfaced where O’Donnell talked about such issues as sex and condoms on MTV and to Phil Donahue.
"It seems awfully silly if you see the clip, you can see she was speaking of time when she was a youth and a time when she was exploring youthful things, said Vance Phillips, the president of the Sussex County Council and former Vice Chairman of the Delaware Republican party.

My take on the whole thing is that Christine O’Donnell gave the Democrats some really dopey personal stuff to attack. Meanwhile, she focused her attacks on their voting records, their pro-abortion policies and their tax increases.
So, the Democrats are attacking smoke and mirrors with great enthusiasm … pure superficiality. And she is kidney punching them over and over.
Meanwhile, all the voters know that she is dedicatedly pro-life.
One of the reasons she gave for cancelling the Sunday talk shows is that she wanted to get to church and then meet with the voters. The other day there were two rallies. Chris Coons, the Democrat, appeared at a large auditorium with the head of the DNC and could barely get a hundred people to show up. Nearby, Christine O’Donnell met with supporters at a pizzeria and the crowd was all the way out into the parking lot.
The Democrats attack her appearance(s) on Bill Mahr. Christine O’Donnell bashes Chris Coons raising taxes by double digits three times in four years and still bringing the county of which he is the county executive to the brink of bankruptcy AFTER inheriting a budget surplus. AND how unemployment has skyrocketed. Etc, etc, etc.
And then she states the importance of her being in Congress in early November [rather than in January like the rest of the new Representatives … because this is a replacement election.]
Then she had a meeting over a meal WITH ALL THE OTHER REPUBLICANS on the ballot for down-ballot positions. And she is extending her coat tails to bring them along.
So, meanwhile, the Democrats are swinging wildly and getting nothing but air. O’Donnell is landing one solid punch after another on the Democrats.*
