A black business owner in Minneapolis, Minn. broke down into tears after his life’s work was destroyed by the rioters who have burnt down much of the city.

KB Balla, a Minneapolis volunteer firefighter who opened up Scores Sports Bar with his savings, was profiled by CNN. Looters showed up while he was being profiled by journalists to take even more from the poor man.

“I don’t know what we’re going to do. We’ve worked so hard to get here. So hard,” he said while sobbing.

From what I can see of protests, the protestors usually look like they’re having a great time.
At this point the cop has been arrested, so what do they want?
 
Money and free TV’s.

I do not understand Minneapolis, the people or the police, allowing this to happen. Since black lives really do matter, that sort of thing is uncalled for, lest someone start shooting the robbers, as would happen in other places.

It is hard for me to evaluate theee situations. In Atlants there were several businesses vandalized, including the Vartoon Netowrk store in the CNN building, a Chick Fil-A, the SportsHall of Fame, several other businesses in the vicinity of the 1996 Olympic Park, and a few cars set on fire (including one police car). I could not say what percentage of the hundreds of people out demonstrating tonight were doing so peacefully vs. rioting. Once there is a significantly large volume of people it is incredibly difficult to divide the two.

Looking deeper, what does Atlants have to do with this? The police force is composed of a significant number of people from the community and a significant number of minorities. There are not as far as I know allegations of the Atlanta police force acting brutally or unfairly. I dont think the demonstrations in Atlanta communicated a clear message nor do I think it established solidarity with other regions. As the mayor of Atlanta said, “this is not a protest. It is chaos.”

Watching the videos of the protest and riots in action I did see what appeared to be a few instances of people attempting to provoke police. But there also appear to have been people there to peacefully protest. Unfortunately the behaviours of one behaviour have eclipsed the intentions of the other.

Also, Covid-19 is still a thing and the numbers in Georgia are still going up. Check back in 2 weeks to see how much the GA numbers of jumped.

Really? the cop is just a symptom of the bigger problem. What do they want? I think they want more than a band-aid.
 
And the collateral damage of innocents is to be accepted? I’ll remember that the next time we use military force against civilians.

The Catholic Church doesn’t accept or teach this and no one here should.

Certainly not. But neither should the “collateral damage of innocents” be used to downplay the travesty of the other direct “damage of innocents” by institutionalized racism.

I’d say innocents are always to be defended, whether they are in the womb, minorities from racism or prejudice, or citizens and their property.

As soon as you begin to target the innocent, you lose the moral high ground, and your message goes down the toilet.

When the video was released of this man dying, all I heard was universal outrage at the police. When the rioting started, then the outrage at that was heard as well. The one’s who chose to make their actions of arson, robbery and destruction part of the story are solely to blame for the diversion that they themselves caused.
 
This man had better not rebuild too fast, because if the police officers are somehow acquitted of criminal charges, which is entirely possible, another riot will probably occur.

This is the salient question. What does “justice” look like? What is required? Specifics are necessary, not platitudes that provide no real path to a solution.
 
An excellent point. That’s why I said abortion clinic bombings are never defended, nor are they an effective means to combat an issue.

Non-blacks don’t likely feel a pull to unite when they seem images of african americans burning and looting. It is very counterproductive.

Come on! We full on participate in a secularist, relativist, materialist market culture, valuing these things to the point that we view ourselves winners and losers according to how we abide by the laws of mammon.
Then on a dime we cull out a handful of issues from THE REST OF OUR CHOSEN VALUES and expect what? Rationalization? ( Because that’s all your getting).
I’m stuck in the same reality, don’t get me wrong. But I start to get a little nuts when people believe the legitimacy of their LIST OF WHAT MAKES ME WORTHY AND YOU NOT. I

Absolutely. There will be accusations of racism in the future when businesses avoid those neighborhoods.
 
Wanton destruction of private or public property is never acceptable. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
 
I saw some picture where two whites were in front of some fire that was set. That’s all I have, a picture. I didn’t pay close attention to it but it may well have been a minority business that was set on fire.

So, it sure looks like antifa is doing this and hardly helping the grieving parties, they seem to just be opportunistic in destroying things.

I also saw a protester on the capitol grounds of Denver, an African American man asking an antifa anarchist type not to deface the statues.

I have little doubt, this incident is being used for nefarious purposes. There are a number of reports of this occurring.

Remember, Senator Tim Caine’s son had to go to trial in St. Paul for causing disruptions.

I mean, I saw an African American who set up “gofundme” accounts for the businesses these people have been burning down.
