Bombs found at Clinton’s N.Y. home and Obama’s D.C. residence

We’re getting way off topic but it wasn’t just old southerners. There were race riots through this country. There were riots over the forced integration of Boston’s schools. Boston ain’t in the South.

Never did I say racism was unique to the South. Anyway, you’re right about this being off topic.

Added: I guess what I was trying to say is that for an older generation of southerners, even ones in the cultural vanguard like Faulkner, their way of life was so wrapped up in the old way of doing things that it was almost constitutionally impossible for them to support civil rights.

You’d have to ask Senator Thurmond. If the latter, you’d have to ask him why a state should have the right to be racist.
 
There is common ground that one can campaign on without adapting racist policies.

People might be more “independent” in the South and that is not hard to understand (yes, I concede that some of those states may receive more government subsidies), they in the South may be more distrustful of “Big Government”…so as it has been said before, there are a whole lot of appeals one can make.
 
They sure didn’t give us a lot of news about him. He was dropped from coverage pretty quickly and there didn’t seem to be a lot of concern from the democrats about what had happened.

There was plenty of racism to go around in both parties at the time and still today. How to address it was up for debate.

To accuse someone of racism because they don’t agree with your methods is wrong.
 
The conversation lost focus. It in a way exploded, unlike these ‘bombs’.
 
I watched President Trump’s speech on MSNBC yesterday and when he went on to explain his plan for fixing opioid addiction… they suddenly cut it off and immediately started blaming President Trump for the bomb plantings…
 
I also secure bombs delivered to my home next to my containers of bleach products.

Please cite some examples of where Garland was accused of horrible things broadcast in the news media across the USA. I must have missed it.

I hope you are not arguing against the system of checks and balances. One does realize that the Senate has a right to advise and consent on a Supreme Court Justice nominee. Maybe if one doesn’t like that, they can write their congressional representatives to change the law.

As a public figure I’d have to accept humiliation of all kinds. Comes with the territory. Look at Ginsberg or Roberts. But who became Justice in the end?

Both sides were filled with hate before Trump. Both sides continue to be filled with hate. Short of a miracle, both sides will continue to be filled with hate when he’s long gone. The same can be said of Obama. The same can be said of Bush. Anything before that is from when I was too young to remember.

Basically, Trump is a symptom, not the problem or its cause.

And Republicans do it too. It’s just that they say Democrats want to take your money, freedom, property, guns, etc. So if this is a major cause of divisiveness, both sides are contributing, and that’s really concerning.

Or they made a very consistent mistake across all the bombs they made. That seems just as likely, if not more likely, than these being intentional. After all, most things are harder to do well than looking them up on YouTube is.

There’s also other options - dry run, intent to scare rather than kill, etc.

I remember that he screamed out some stuff about how much he hated Republicans. That’s more than I know about what motivated the Las Vegas shooter.
