I have got to move to Texas.
We’d be glad to have you. It’s a great place to live. Just be ready for the scorching hot summer weather.

I should mention that we have no state income tax, arguably the best economy in the United States, and a tremendously low cost of living.

What the heck are you using this smiley for?? Do you mean you are happy that this bill did not pass? You call yourself a Catholic yet you do not approve of care for pregnant women up to the standard of any health clinic? That a 20 week old baby who has the right to be born, be protected in the womb until he/she can be born?

You put up that smiley here?

Are you serious.
Yes. I am against any laws that adversely affect ONLY poor women. I also believe that I have the right to make medical decisions myself. What “they” were trying to do was wrong, and I am glad that it didn’t work. No one has the right to make those decisions for me.

Nobody has the right to murder an unborn HUMAN BEING. Which is exactly what abortion is. If you support abortion, you support murder. Period. End of story.

I am against laws that adversely affect UNBORN CHILDREN. Do not think that abortion is the only way to help poor, pregnant women. Abortion helps no one.

Nor do you have the “right” to decide to murder your baby, any more than you have the “right” to murder your grocer, your husband or the kid next door. Murder is not a “medical decision”. It is completely pathetic watching a fellow Catholic champion an unjust law that permits murdering babies.

And as a Catholic, you know better. No amount of “poor catechesis” equals cheering the death of babies. That is a deliberate turning away from truth, on your part.

Gov. Perry calls 2nd special session of the Texas Legislature to address abortion restrictions
AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday called a second special session of the Texas Legislature to pass widespread abortion restrictions, after the first attempt by Republicans died overnight following a marathon one-woman filibuster.
Perry ordered lawmakers to meet again on July 1 to act on the abortion proposals, as well as separate bills that would boost highway funding and deal with a juvenile justice issue. The sweeping abortion rules would close nearly all abortion clinics and impose other widespread restrictions on the procedure across the nation’s second-largest state.
The measure passed the House, but died after Democratic Sen. Wendy Davis led a more than 12-hour filibuster effort. Hundreds of protesters then cheered, disrupting Senate proceedings as the session closed at midnight.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst hinted that another special session was coming when he denounced the protesters as an “unruly mob.” Democrats who urged them on called the outburst democracy in action.
In either point of view, a raucous crowd of chanting, singing, shouting demonstrators effectively took over the Texas Capitol. The final outcome took several hours to sort out.
Perry can call as many 30-day extra sessions as he likes, but lawmakers can only take up those issues he assigns.

Gov. Perry Calls Special Session to Begin July 1
AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry today announced a Special Session of the Texas Legislature will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, July 1.
"I am calling the Legislature back into session because too much important work remains undone for the people of Texas. Through their duly elected representatives, the citizens of our state have made crystal clear their priorities for our great state. Texans value life and want to protect women and the unborn. Texans want a transportation system that keeps them moving. Texans want a court system that is fair and just. We will not allow the breakdown of decorum and decency to prevent us from doing what the people of this state hired us to do.
The special session will consider the following issues:
• Legislation relating to the regulation of abortion procedures, providers and facilities.
• Legislation relating to the funding of transportation infrastructure projects.
• Legislation relating to establishing a mandatory sentence of life with parole for a capital felony committed by a 17-year-old offender.

Doesn’t that define most American cities? 🙂
It is somewhat of an anomaly. Texas for the most part is a red state. Austin, the state capitol, is a little blue dot in the middle of Texas. It is considered to be “out-of-character” with the rest of the state. I live in Austin now after finishing at A&M and the first thing I noticed was the increased numbers of obama bumper stickers. The people down town are… interesting. The motto of the city is “Keep Austin Weird.” Go figure.

Do you even know what they were proposing with this law? Why are “only poor women” having abortions post 20 weeks of pregnancy? Your statement lacks any credibility.

Did you learn nothing from the Gosnell case or did you even bother to read what happens in a late term abortion? Aside from the fact that it’s generally fatal for the baby, it is a very risky procedure, very painful, and as to your claim about poor women VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. So none of your proposed arguments have any merit.

This of course ignores the complete disregard your statement has for innocent human beings. I get the impression you are a female and thus should have some idea about fetal development but if not, here is a link with both illustrations and a video:

babycenter.com/fetal-development-images-20-weeks

This is not a decision about you or any other woman but about a separate human life. You can’t claim that it’s a blob, cannot feel pain, does not have a beating heart or functioning neurological system.

I’m leaving off the Catholic teaching on the subject of life since it’s been stated well by others and apparently is not important to you despite your claim of being Catholic.

I do have to ask, do you really BELIEVE what you said or are you simply trying to stir the pot. Your CAF name indicates that you have the objective of trying to offend with your comments. The smiley face was really inappropriate and truly unkind.

Yes despite Texas being a beacon of sanity in a crazy world, Austin is like many “college towns” filled with ivory tower Leftists and their students. The same has infested Colorado via Boulder. My fear is that your fair state is so attractive that it will be “Californicated” as we used to say when they came north to Oregon and Washington

I like your governor a LOT and sorry he didn’t do better in the Presidential Debates. It was surprising that he had difficulty as he’s usually pretty quick on his feet. I like his politics! Maybe next time…

I feel Gov Perry has had enough of Wendy’s antics and will not let this occur next time. Regardless of your position, the process should not be stopped by screaming mobs.

I think some are just jaded that the people had the guts to take matters into their own hands.I doubt anyone here would be saying the quoted remark if pro-lifers had shouted a pro-choice bill out of contention.

Austin is also our capital, so there are 2 populations of liberals up there - TU (or UT for non-Aggies) and the government. Double whammy.

We’ve had a HUGE influx of new immigrants from the NE - especially since 2008. I watch the license plates closely and they come here for work. I pray that they are fed up with their states’ dismal conditions and don’t try to duplicate the failure, but they could have an effect on our votes in major elections.

The inability to kill your unborn baby is not an adverse affect.

I would be embarrassed to see any pro-lifers throw a hissy fit and act like a bunch of toddlers who didn’t get their way over a bill. I was embarrassed when pro-life supporters interrupted Kathleen Sebelius’s speech at Georgetown. Not because I’m a fan of Sebelius, but because it’s embarrassing to see anyone on my side act like a child. I wonder if any pro-choicers are embarrassed about what happened in Austin last night.

When did that ever happen? We see the mob rule method from the Left. Remember the takeover of the Wisconsin capital because the PEOPLE voted to change the benefit structure for the union thugs in the SEIU? Or how about them picketing and threatening peoples’ children at their homes?

I don’t think a bunch of nuns praying a rosary outside an abortion clinic is the equivalent.

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli once said, “History is made by those who show up.” I’m inclined to agree. If you want a government of the people, by the people, for the people then the people had better make their presence known on issues that matter to them and get involved in the process. I’m not embarrassed about what happened in Austin. I wouldn’t be embarrassed or disapprove if the situation were reversed either. I’m tired of seeing governments run amok because the people are lazy and apathetic when it comes to defending and fighting for their rights and beliefs. People can rage all they want on the internet, but where were they when their government was making decisions for them?

How does this law ONLY affect poor women??

Doesn’t a woman have other choices to make ahead of time??

So, you think a fetus that has life at 20 weeks does not merit the right to life?

Why stop at 20 weeks? Perhaps we should make law that even post-birth, termination as a right for the first year of the child. It makes as much sense.

I highly doubt it. One of my FB friends put up a photo of one of HER friends, screaming in the gallery. Guess I know where SHE stands now…on the corpses of deal babies.

Troll alert. If you were a true Catholic… you would see what is wrong with a woman killing the unborn.
I applaud Ms. Davis!!! Good for her for believing and standing up for the rights of women. Women can make these medical decisions for themselves. They don’t need Rick “oops” Perry.
