Early reports of no casualties among 5200 US troops🙏
I am reading reports that Iran has claimed 80 Americans have been killed. Yet to be confirmed.
No casualties of Iraq nationals.

I saw the video of the missiles hitting, one thing that struck me is modern times behaviour. The Iraqi soldiers were stood there filming it on their phones instead of taking cover. We do we do that today?

“We’re standing steadfast against those who seek to kill us. We’re standing with determination and with force. Whoever tries to attack us will suffer a most crushing blow,” the Israeli leader declared at a conference in Jerusalem on Wednesday.
Netanyahu.

One can go on and on with the stories.
I’m sorry, Victoria, one must consider the source of the stories. The first story you posted was about his agency killing MEK members; MEK is a terrorist organization in Iran which assassinated people, so such an operation is very much in line with their CIA-type function. The second article did not have hard evidence, only unsubstantiated claims by the extremist president of Brazil.

Even if he were responsible, the killing of Soleimani was against Catholic moral code and doctrine. We have been through this, shall I post the CCC again?

What I posted was in the Progressive magazine, but Stephen Zunes is a well-respected researcher and faculty member of a Catholic University, USF.
Was it Israel’s embassy they were attacking a week or two ago?
No, but the US is involved in Iraq in the first place to protect Israel. Saddam Hussein was supporting the second intifada.
I try to be somewhat “open-minded” as one should be, I’ll read different resources… I actually like a lot of Democracy Now, I read this 2 part article
Now you have a better source there, Victoria! Thanks for posting it.

I read this too, but also that there’s really no casualties and that Iran is just doing that as part of a propaganda campaign to assauge Iranian public opinion.

Soleimani has been the mastermind behind Iran’s web of foreign terror campaigns for decades, it’s well documented with intelligence and he was DECLARED a terrorist by the United Nations and others. This isn’t hard, the fact that it is for some to say it exactly like it is, or make excuses for this man and Iran and make the US out as the bad men amazes me.

The mass Iraqi protests especially in the Shia areas, and the pull out of Sunnis and Kurds from the Parliament vote imposed by the pro Iran bloc, is evidence that a majority in Iraq is opposed to the harsh Iran regime and is backing a partnership instead with the US and other coalition forces in Iraq.

Be aware that we are experiencing a stunning volume of troll & disinformation activity on twitter. We are witnessing coordinated informational warfare regarding Iran Attack spreading false information designed to create confusion & division.

Disinformation is a big part of our world.

One has to be careful with what they read, there are also stories that there have been all kinds of cyber attacks that have gone on in the past few days.

Consider other viewpoints.

I now think the Iran strike was military theater. Similar to Trump’s missile strike in Syria awhile back.

So military theater is essentially diplomacy by other means and this is telling me neither side wants a full blown war. However both sides have the need to puff their chests a bit and “save face”. Look for this to calm down back into the state of normal tension.

In Iran’s court. Trump turned his hand this time, but next time won’t.

We have an amazing president. Every time fear mongers rile up the masses that he is unstable he ends up handling things better than previous presidents. We are blessed to have him!

Or so he is able to say to his believers. What is the reality?

You have that right. When will the anti Trumpsters’ realize this? Re geopolitical affairs he has proven to be far more astute the the political “ experts”
Which of course is why they are apoplectic re anything Trump😉

Pam Geller has a list of 10 events that Soleimani was “allegedly” involved in, Khobar towers in Saudi Arabia, all pretty bad things. I’m not linking but it’s there, yes, Geller is not always 100% right.

Hey, if I posted it, some might find it offensive but to describe the meme might be different, there is one I saw at Larry Elder saying “The Democrats now have a five way split running for President, Biden, Sanders, Buttiegieg, Warren and Soleimani”, I mean, Red State had an article this morning:

https://www.redstate.com/christopher-arps/2020/01/07/761255/

I believe we are seeing a widespread denial about Soleimani, this is happening at least, with some political views.

What McFaul ignores is the funding that Obama secured for the Iranian regime. How soon people forget about those pallets of cash. If one thinks Iran used that funding for humanitarian concerns only, I have a bridge to sell.

Obama’s intentions may have been good, I’ll give him that, but he was played. No way Suleimani did not use a good portion of that cash to fund their foreign ventures.

Things are calmer at this point. I’ll take that for now.

Yes lots of rumours and propaganda flying, on both sides. Iraq is requesting everyone talk because it does not want to be the battleground again.

Poor Iraq! I was watching the news today and there was a segment with Iraqis saying they refuse to live through a proxy war again.
