Yes, exactly. I think it’s incredibly homophobic to suggest gays “recruit” children, to suggest gays are pedophiles, or to insult gays and lesbians. It’s so obnoxious to have someone call gay people pedophiles and then cry about you calling them a homophobe, suggesting that you did it only because of their stance on same-sex marriage. The Family Research Council is an expert at this, as they got listed as a hate group specifically for suggesting gays were preying on children, yet they lambast the listing in press releases as an attack on their view on marriage.
If people acted tolerant of gay people for the last 50 years, none of the current movement would even exist. The only reason it exists is because some conservatives thought it extremely important to spread as much hatred and bigotry and prejudice against gays as possible in the 60s-90s, continuing into modern day, and gays fought back. The modern LGBT movement sparked from an unprovoked
police beating. Russia is currently in their Stonewall era, with misinformation (especially the false link of pedophilia) spread daily about gays and lesbians, “corrective” rapes seen as healthy for lesbians, beatings commonplace of gays and lesbians, police brutality commonplace, etc.
Remember: gays & lesbians used to be portrayed by the MSM, with the huge backing of conservatives, as filthy predators of children. It was through this lens that conservatives tried to ban gays & lesbians from becoming teachers. It was through this lens that people didn’t care about beatings or murders of gays & lesbians, least so if it was done at the hands of a police officer. It was through this lens that “PSAs” like this one got put out:

At least modern-day false and prejudicial attacks on gays & lesbians have been relegated to an extremist position, only taken by the most hateful of groups, such as the FRC. But they still disgust me when they pop up their heads on message boards.
When you’re dragged to your death on the back of a pickup truck for being Christian in the United States, we can talk. Until then, you have nothing on the persecution of gays in this country. The US is one of the most intolerant societies for gays and lesbians in the West. It’s no wonder the LGBT suicide rate is so high.
