The study says that homosexuality is not determined by a single “gay gene” or only a few genes. According to an article in Nature about the same study:
For their second analysis, Ganna and his colleagues wanted to see which particular SNPs were associated with same-sex sexual behaviours, and found five that were more common among those individuals. However, those five SNPs collectively explained less than 1% of the variation in sexual behaviour.

This suggests that there are a lot of genes that influence sexual behaviour, many of which researchers haven’t found yet, says Ganna. An even larger sample size could help to identify those missing variants, he says.

But Ganna cautions that these SNPs can’t be used to reliably predict sexual preferences in any individual, because no single gene has a large effect on sexual behaviours.

Nothing in this study means that genes play no part in making someone turn out gay. Rather, there are likely multiple genes of small effect that together play a part in how someone’s sexual orientation develops. It is not common for most mental characteristics to be determined by a single gene (Parkinson’s is one of the rare examples). Instead, in most cases it is likely multiple genes that are responsible, each one of which has only a small effect on its own.

I am not sure that it is only the German Catholics. There is an American Catholic college that sends out a periodical keeping alumni up to date. They have a section where they congratulate couples who have just been married. But the married couples are not always man and woman. They regularly congratulate SS couples on their marriage with color photos of the newly married SS couple.
 
Could anyone give any further ideas as to how they think this matter will be handled by the Pope? I myself am at a loss as to what he will do.

I wonder if they believe the Church teaching marriage and same sex sexual relationships are changeable, or are they just trying to be kind?

And yet homosexuality is documented in Old Testament Times, when culture, environment, and child upbringing could not be more different than they are today — when there were no “media influences,” no effete pampering of children, when even adolescence as a “life stage” wasn’t even recognized. And yet same-sex preferences still manifested themselves. Such preferences would develop in someone in a semi-nomadic largely pre-literate tribal culture because? Or just maybe, for reasons we don’t understand, such an orientation for some just isn’t a choice.
 
I pulled up the CNA and found no links to substantiate this story. There may be a reason it is not being reported elsewhere. I guess I will think about it if and when it is substantiated as real.

I believe the reporting is fairly poor. All the above says is that orientation is not chosen. And that is why (unjust) forms of discrimination are unacceptable.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that there are other factors to a man engaging in homosexuality beyond desire to obtain sexual gratification and fear of fathering illegitimate children.
