Can a marriage survive this?

I would also recommend checking out DivorceBusting.com and the book of the same title. The parts about the “Walk-Away-Wife” (WAW) syndrome will be very relevant to you, and contain practical strategy on what to do to not further drive away someone in your wife’s thinking pattern. It is good stuff.

Been there, done that.
Once I took the advise of a wise person to determine if I wanted to be right or happy, I took my stance. I wanted to be happy with the stipulation he severed all communications with the other party. As far as I know he has. It is now 4 years later. With all of the gifts God had given us, love is the most important. The trust is still in the process of being earned.

You guys are so good to me.

Sounds pretty darn familiar…

As far as depression…I don’t know. Maybe.
At least according to Bruce Fisher, if you suspect she might be “rebelling”, the last thing you want to do is act like an overbearing parent. That’s what she’s trying to get away from.

I may not be the one to speak here. My ex WAS going through a rebellion stage but I didn’t know it. I grabbed on harder and told him in no uncertain terms how irresponsible he was being. He RAN. It was truly a blessing in disguise for me, but not the way to save a marriage, and I do believe that marriages are sacred and worth saving.

I want to thank whoever pointed me to survivinginfidelity.com, that site is pretty good. Good people with experience and advice.

marriagebuilders has been good too

I’m just trying to figure out what the next step is.

Do you think there is any way that the two of you could get away for a weekend. Even if it is for a one night weekend. If maybe you could go away on a fri or sat night just for the night get away from everyone and everything and really talk. Sometimes away from it all can make you see things differently. Is there any family members who could possibly help? Maybe just to get a room away just to be alone and see whats really inside her head. It doesnt have to be far maybe just a half hour or so. Just some alone time to really talk. If nothing else it would really let you know where you really stand. Because no offense but if she doesnt want to truely try there is not much you can do. As much as you love someone you cant love them enough for 2. Has anything like this ever happened before? Or did it hit out of the blue?

It was definitely out of the blue. It’s so out of character for her, I have no idea where it came from.

There IS a possibility of this Saturday night, if my babysitter (my mom and dad) can keep the kids.

I know I’m talking tough, but when this comes down to it, it’s not going to be easy at all.

You know what, if you can get alone, just be yourself. You have to have enough confidence in yourself to remember that you are the person she fell inlove with in the first place. Dont try to be someone else either. I think that when we say you have to be tough thats not to say change who you are, just know that she deserves to be loved but so do you. You are a good person too, and dont let anyone **** on you either, You know what i mean. Your feelings are just as important as hers, and she needs to know this. Do you think it could be a self esteem with her. I dont know how old you guys are but im guessing late twentys or early thirtys. I know myself i got married young and i was used to getting alot of attention from guys and my husband, He was always jealous. Then the kids came and then sometimes you feel like they got you where they want you. And sometimes you feel like you have to prove hey look other guys still want me. Just guessing. But i can remember feeling that way. Sometimes you get too comfortable and forget you still have to find a way to show you care. money, work, its like life is sometimes passing you by. I think it really normal thats why its called the 7 year itch.

Rascal:

Your situation sounds somewhat similiar to mine. The post about the rebelling teen describes my wife to a T. I had no idea that she had all of this pent up frustration about her childhood when we married, but I see now that our relationship has evolved into a mirror of her poor relationship with her father.

This is a tough ship to travel in! I feel for anyone in this position.

I am very worried for my wife, because I think that her pride keeps her from counseling, and unfortunately, the very anti-Catholic attitudes that she was raised around prevent her from seeing the truth about the Church.

More and more I see that there is something deeply wrong with American culture, where infidelity and sexual license are touted as the solutions to all problems. This used to be something that you heard talked about from the pulpit, but not anymore. Sad.

7 year itch…It started 2 months after our 7th anniversary. All of what you describe is accurate. We’ve been married 8 years now. I’m 36, she’s 32.

Thats kind of what i thought. Sometimes i think people read more into things then what are there. Dont get me wrong i could be wrong and it may be deeper, but it may not be, you know what i mean. Its just ive been there, and am just trying to show you another point if view. been there done that got the t shirt kind of view.

BTDT and we have recovered our marriage. It’s been five years since the affair ended. I’m glad you found marriagebuilders. They kept me sane and I’m eternally grateful to the folks on there.

I’m sure someone has mentioned it (I didn’t read the whole thread), but I also highly recommend Retrouvaille. retrouvaille.org The Church has a wonderful program for marriages in crisis.

As for getting some time alone, that is imperative. Even if it’s for a couple of hours. Talking is okay, but having a little fun is even better. You are trying to remind her what you have and had together. She is changing history in her mind and you need to make sure she remembers why you fell in love.

I am praying for both of you.

See, now this has me torn.

I may have an opportunity on Saturday to “surprise” her after work.

Do I:

A) Make a nice dinner for her and wait for her to get home.

or

B) Tell her “we need to talk”

But, if that’s the case, why does she want to hold on to any sort of relationship with this dirtbag?

She feels, old, unattractive, dull, fat, boring, frumpy or some other kind of negative thing. Does not mean she IS any of these, but, she feels that way. Especially when you see on TV and in the movies that you are supposed to be a mom with 2 perfect kids, wear a size 2, have perfect hair, a carreer, a lexus and exciting friends

it is difficult to wake up every day and put on your size 9 jeans try to find a ponytail holder for your daughter, tie your son’s shoes, fix breakfast, get everyone to school/work on time, never get your hair done, clean up dog puke, and have the only thing you get dressed up for is Mass.

He makes her feel attractive and alive and young.

He could sense her low self esteem and started courting your wife - and she was willing to be courted! You have to win her back.

Easy he is giving her a way to escape from her life. He is telling her everything she wants to hear. Shes beautiful, sexy, but she is only seeing what she wants to see right now. She needs someone or something to get her to open her eyes before its too late. He is everything that her life isnt now. Easy. Think about it , hes older right, he like others has been there. He knows how to play her.

You know, I’ve never told her she was anything less than beautiful or sexy. Even at 9 months pregnant (which oddly enough, was one of the times I was absolutely the MOST attracted to her).

I think the “eye opener” is coming soon. I’m getting a bunch of advice that I need to tell this other man’s wife. I’m scared as heck to do it, but I know she needs to know.

I don’t know HOW. I see old pictures/videos of myself, and I’m so happy and full of life, not a care in the world. And, I don’t know how to get back to that person. I’m so destroyed inside.

i wouldnt do it

I would very much advise against telling this man’s wife.

I would you advise to speak to him, face to face - man to man.
