I really do not understand why people are saying that Iran should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons because it wants to “wipe Israel off the map”.

From what I understand, Iran currently has some 150,000 missiles in it’s arsenal and it is certainly capable of producing many more if it wishes to.

If Iran were to launch hundreds of thousands of missiles carrying conventional warheads towards Israel, all of Israel would surely be destroyed.

Why then would Iran need to develop and deploy nuclear weapons if indeed it wants to wipe Israel of the map militarily since it is already capable of doing this by raining down Israel with conventional warheads?

Israel will likely respond with it’s nuclear weapons of course but this still will not be enough to save itself from being destroyed as well.

Ron Paul really should not be faulted for taking a generally non-alarmist attitude towards the question of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons because it is pretty much a non-issue to begin with.

Actually, if Iran today attempted to lauch its missiles into Israel, it would be completely *annihilated *by Israel by nuclear weapons.

Israel would survive, Iran would not.

I’m afraid this is what will happen. I am in the camp who will vote Libertarian (or an independent Paul ticket) if he doesn’t win the GOP nomination. If he runs as a third party I would imagine it will seal Obama’s victory.

I believe polls show that amongst younger primary voters Paul is in the lead. I hope that he at least has a lasting effect of moving the GOP somewhat in his direction. I think if the GOP wants future support from my generation it will almost have to.
I’m not sure I understand.

You admit Paul running 3rd party would ensure an Obama victory, but at the same time claim you will vote Libertarian or independent if Paul doesn’t win the nomination.

Are you a closeted Obama supporter, or a Paul supporter? The two are about as diametrically opposed to each other as you can be (esp on domestic policy).

In my view, a vote for a 3rd party is a vote for Obama.

A Paul supporter. I would never vote for Obama for many, many reasons.

With Ron Paul rising in the polls, the media has begun to cast its attention towards the libertarian GOP Congressman. With Paul rising in the polls, people have begun to ask whether he can win in Iowa and perhaps even New Hampshire. The Washington Post published a mainly positive profile of Paul in today’s paper, calling him “a force to be reckoned with in this presidential cycle,” which is certainly and objectively true. However, it concludes with “There is no Ron Paul 2.0,” which is certainly not true, and until now has hardly been mentioned in this primary campaign — perhaps because until now, no one thought that Paul could win anything.

Andrew Sullivan endorsed Paul today

Can Ron Paul win?

No, but what he will do is divide the Republican vote, assuring Obama’s reelection.

Yup, it is.
This isn’t true at all. I despise Obama’s politics but am also in strong disagreement with the mainstream GOP. Should I vote against my values just so Obama loses?

Attitudes like this are why third parties can’t really take off in this country.

As much as you don’t like it, that’s the political reality. See realpolitik.

Don’t get me wrong, I would vote for Paul, should he win the nomination. I may be in disagreement with some of the current candiates, but the amount of SCOTUS appointments upcoming alone will keep me from giving the election to Obama. Any one of the candidates would be a VAST improvement on his policy, in my view.

As long as people keep accepting the status quo you are right. I will continue to refuse voting for a candidate I strongly disagree with on many issues.

As Paul said in the debate last night, all of our current justices are both good and bad. Somewhere along the line people got the idea in this country that personal liberty and economic liberty were two separate issues. They really aren’t and shouldn’t be looked at in that way.

No, actually, third parties do not work in constitutional republics. Third parties only work in the parliamentary system where coalitions can be formed in order to form a government.

I respectfully disagree, which is why I don’t vote for the Libertarian party 😃

While the justices may be “good and bad”, some are certainly FAR worse than others in their interpretation of our Constitution.

Gilliam, who cannot help loving the little guy:). I’ve been considering him all along as a write in choice, who knows with the way things stand at the moment:shrug:
Peace, Carlan
ROn Paul is the one GOP candidate who can pull disaffected Democrats, Independents, and the youth vote away from Obama.

Can Ron Paul win? Zero chance. In fact, I find it scary that so many decent people are willing to turn a blind eye to his nutty, eccentric side. Don’t turn your brains off, Folks, b/c you like him on some issues. I like a lot of his ideas as well. But please live in the real world. He is NOT going to win, nor should he. :onpatrol: Rob

Apparently the Constitution is too extreme for most individuals.
Right, like those NeoCons Jefferson and Madison, starting their illegal undeclared wars against the Barbary States.

There is a fallacy of the excluded middle between Bush’s adventurism and Paul’s military isolationism.

I’ll be honest. I do not understand the thinking of a single human being who would do anything to keep he evil Barack Obama in office. I can’t stand the phony Romney, but he is not a Marxist, and he does not hate the country and its Constitution. Yes, he has ignored it. But, I vote for Mitt over Obama. Obama’s anti-freedom administration with its endless string of failures must be stopped. Rob

I would also like him out of office. I do, however, refuse to “vote against” someone and instead always vote for someone I can fully support. This was not always the case as I voted for Bush in 2004, but I have since strengthened my convictions.

I think calling Obama “evil” is a bit strong even though I strongly disagree with most of what he does and says.

Agreed. I would vote for Mitt if they were my only two choices. People tend to forget we do have more than that here. For the record I don’t think Obama is a Marxist, but he definitely has socialist leanings. The same could be said of Romney though.

This statement is farther out in left (rather, right) field than the craziest thing Ron Paul has ever said. People are allowed to have legitimate differences without being called “evil” or described as hating his or her country or a being a “Marxists” (probably without much attention to what that really means).

That said: There’s no chance I’ll be voting for Obama - but I also won’t necessarily be voting for Gingrich or Romney or whomever the Republicans pick. Because, despite how much I dislike Obama, things can certainly get worse with another President.

Pax,

It’s a good thing he opposes abortion.

I’m registered as independent, but I’m going to re register as republican, just so I can vote for him in the primaries.
I’m doing the same thing!
