Mexico has voter ID as well. My husband (Mexican, now US citizen) doesn’t understand why the US doesn’t. I am pretty sure my birth country does as well, but I left there when I was 4 so I am not positive.

yes that’s true.they all ended when trump came into power! this clown is the most dishonest president in history .he loves only the white people ,who adores him .couldnt release his tax returns, what is he hiding??? . keeps telling his base that world leaders respect him .i have travelled in 8 countries ,since he was elected ,australia ,new zealand ,singapore ,canada etc .everytime ,people ask me how is trump /i always reply " please dont ruin my day and dont remind me about him!" and they’re all burst to laughter. i have never encountered any foreigner ,who likes trump ,including caucasians!

United Fruit Company, banana republic, that was Guatemala not Honduras, I’m almost positive.

Per the president of Guatemala before the coup, Arbenz:
His policies ran afoul of the United Fruit Company, which lobbied the United States government to have him overthrown. The US was also concerned by the presence of communists in the Guatemalan government, and Árbenz was ousted in the 1954 Guatemalan coup d’état engineered by the US Department of State and the Central Intelligence Agency.
Guatemala was certainly a Banana Republic also. But the term was coined in a book about the Honduras which I provided a link to, but it doesn’t really matter other than a point I was trying to emphasize. The thing is virtually everything the US did during the cold war was justified using that justification. We supported some horrible regimes for the simple fact that they weren’t “communist”.

And, by the way, African-Americans and Hispanic Americans have their lowest unemployment rate in history in 2018. President Trump’s economic policies are the best for minorities.

I’m dubious of the report also…I just tried to answer what seemed like a genuine question about where the “report” came from. The sad thing is it took me just a few minutes to find it. I’m just amazed sometimes at what little effort people put into finding reliable, sensible information.

Not a single person can really help what their first language is. That isn’t in our control. My first language is Spanish, but I’ve lived in the US most of my life and my Spanish isn’t very good now. My husbands first language is an Indian language. He learned Spanish in school and English as an adult when he immigrated to the US. About half the US Army (my husband retired after 25 years) speaks more than one language—many, many immigrants serving. The US as a whole has no official language, but some states have mandated all schools must be conducted in English. Knowing more than one language is beneficial for many reasons, and many countries much older than ours, have multiple “official” languages and several other languages known by pockets of the population.

That’s sad, so it upsets one that ISIS, the worse terrorists have been beaten back? Or that North Korea is not firing missiles at people? Or that blacks and Hispanics have historic low rates of unemployment?

I thank God every day for such a president. Pro-life too.

pls dont spread your lies here.the figures you have posted here are made up by trump supporters .they have no credibility .why dont you post the contributions that these undocumented immigrants have given to us, the consumers .they serve us in the hotels ,mow our yards ,cook our meals and serve us in the restaurants .they harvest crops ,help build infrastructures etc . you need to get out of our cave and socialize with people of all colors ,not just with your fellow caucasians . god created us all in HIS image ,not just your race. you need to travel overseas ,but dont brag though about your being trump supporter as you may not return home in one piece.if you want to travel safely go to saudi arabia and meet the prince or to russia to meet putin or netanyahu to the least.other countries ,pls dont dare!
Don’t accuse others of spreading lies. That is a personal attack.

Also, the article was posted in the proper thread, that a Gallup poll found that 77% of minorities support voter ID.

Everyone has proper voting ID in the world including South Africa, Iran and India. Only we fall short on this.
Here’s what you are missing, these voter ID laws are solely being driven by one party who has made some fairly wild claims about voter fraud that just aren’t present in the United States. This was most notable in the preposterous claims of voter fraud made my Trump likely simply to stroke his ego that in some alternate reality he didn’t lose the popular vote. So why now? You also have to remember these reek of logical sounding requirements such as the ability to read or a pole tax, both of which were squarely aimed at things African Americans would have issues with. If this is such and important thing, how about coming out upon request to those who are registered voters and help them with getting things like certified birth certificates and social security cards are often required for such IDs?

Trump killed bin laden as well . and majority of hispanic and blacks will vote for repubs in the mid term ,right??? .oh my world ! its not the employment, its the quality of life and most of them are struggling to survive! im surrounded by them !

Sometimes media are right and sometimes they’re wrong. Sometimes both. Try refuting their claims with actual facts and evidence. It takes a little (OK, a lot), more intellectual legwork than a blanket dismissal, but it makes discussion a lot more respectful and productive. 😉

I think we shouldn’t lose our heads. As Catholic we should have sympathy but we should not be unwitting dolts, or adopt the very strange and utterly irrational type of “empathy” the left wing has. They believe that anyone has the right to come here regardless of the laws or sovereignty of the country. They do not believe in borders or that a country should be grounded in a unified culture or even religion. To them, nations are just international way stations for people to float about freely.

The left are willing to grant asylum to people who aren’t coming from a country in the midst of war. Who are burning American flags, waving the flag of their nation, crashing borders, calling our President the Anti-Christ and destroying property. The left wing in this country are willing to do this to virtue signal how much more empathetic they are to the plight of the poor.

This is foolish and unBiblical in terms of how we should show sympathy and empathy as Christians to those in need. We are supposed to wise as serpents but innocent as doves.

I am not of the far right type to say let em all die, but surely it can be seen that this situation will set a precedent for future caravans to organize a run for the border. Today it’s 5000, tomorrow it’ll be 20,000.

When is enough, enough?

I suspect that many of the people in these oppressed countries have the idea that the U.S. is like Disneyland–everything’s free and there’s plenty of everything.
This you say about Disneyland is true . Maybe what I have heard the most and also experienced is the possibility to make progress. Stability. Predictability. And broadening experience. I do not think you can measure what that means: predictability,it is normal for you. And for many,a job.
You had personal contact with immigrants as you have explained, you may know from them.
At a certain level all that is known comes from Hollywood,or the Presidents or New York . That is the image ,not common people all over
One gets to grasp much more when living there and also travelling the roads over the country.
And meeting the people. Then one gets to know better.
What you " sell" isn t really who you are. There is some sort of distortion.
Then we leave the big cities, and see also.
How do you know us from other places? Think of that. Isolated news, usually the worst and by our Presidents. Generally speaking.
A sort of undifferentiated uniform bulk. Label it and there it goes. For sale. Cheap or expensive.
But that isn t real. And we all know
This is a topic by itself: Meet the people.

I’m not missing anything, that 'one party" does not have the baggage of Jim Crow and so on that that "one party. I don’t need to be talked to in a condescending manner. It’s pretty clear that the 60th vote for Obamacare, Al Franken was voted on in a highly questionable way.

This view being expressed above, is outdated.
