My primary interest is seeing our money, through taxes, go to those in need. Others seem to have an interest of protecting their own money and unwillingness to share. That seems to be your primary interest.

People may not be in fear of their lives, but they are in fear of their freedom.Your analogy is silly and nowhere near the reality of the discussion, in my honest opinion. We are not in fear of our lives from taxes. As I’ve explained to another poster, we the people are the government in America. It is through our decisions that we decide ‘everyone for themselves’, or ‘we should share what we’ve been blessed with in this great country so that no one goes without’.
You quote a scripture that does not apply to feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving shelter to the poor, or caring for the sick.Let’s see, I quote scripture to back up my assertations and your reply is “whatever”?
How many times have you quoted Jesus in this thread?
No, we just want to eliminate the middle man.My primary interest is seeing our money, through taxes, go to those in need. Others seem to have an interest of protecting their own money and unwillingness to share.
What freedom are we talking about losing? The freedom to keep our money?People may not be in fear of their lives, but they are in fear of their freedom.
We? Why would the Pope call on governments if there were more efficient ways to reach the majority? No, we just want to eliminate the middle man.
No, it relates to forced charity. It doesn’t work. Not here, not in heaven. You quote a scripture that does not apply to feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving shelter to the poor, or caring for the sick.
Jesus did not create a democracy. We have the choices to do as He would, or not. I would not place money before His teachings.
Seems God has used much more than a coercive government to achieve His will. How is it that all the people who advocate using the coercive power of the government to do “God’s work” never can answer the question.
Believe me, from personal experience, I know the problems that can arise with the IRS. I owed a major tax bill a few years ago and then got struck with an emergency health problem, that required two surgeries and 12 days in the hospital with many antibiotics through an IV. The end result was a bankruptcy and that did not clear the problem with the IRS. I paid many penalties and gross interest to pay them off. I have faced the reality and dealt with it.You had better be afraid of not paying the IRS. Try owing the government money and see how it goes. They can confiscate you bank account, garnish your wages , seize your property and sell it at auction and on top of all that they can throw you in jail. If you resist enough they will use lethal force, they do have guns.
We have influence over our politicians, when we do something about it. To do nothing is inefficient. We decide nothing we vote for representatives who do the deciding. We are not a democracy we are a republic where the parties seem to be beholden to their biggest campaign donor. They seem to be different wings of the same corporatist party. IMHO
You would have to ask him all I know is calling on governments to do charity work is a big waste. Government creates a subservient underclass that keep the bureaucratsemployed and are needed for the bureaucrats to hold power. You accuse others of thinking of their money and I accuse the smug among us who want us to take our earnings to maintain such a system to be only interested in power to control everybody and everything. We? Why would the Pope call on governments if there were more efficient ways to reach the majority?
Are you kidding? If I give ever dime I earn, I mean every dime, to charity, I will end up in prison. Why? Because I didn’t give the government their share. That is the freedom, I am talking about. What freedom are we talking about losing? The freedom to keep our money?![]()
The Pope called for access to health care, which isn’t a problem in the US. Very few people don’t have access to heath care. We? Why would the Pope call on governments if there were more efficient ways to reach the majority?
And through a decision to give, even through taxes, is charitable. To want it all for ourselves, or everyone for themselves, is not. That seems to me to be having other interests than Christ’s teachings in my heart and mind. No, it relates to forced charity. It doesn’t work. Not here, not in heaven.
We, individually, have to ‘do’.
That’s why Lazarus couldn’t warn the rich man’s brothers.
Where?Seems God has used much more than a coercive government to achieve His will.
Very few? What number going without is acceptable to you?Are you kidding? If I give ever dime I earn, I mean every dime, to charity, I will end up in prison. Why? Because I didn’t give the government their share. That is the freedom, I am talking about.

It was Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone that stated that governments should pay for it, not the Pope
Pontius Pilate, of the Roman government, who had no authority over Christ other than that which was given him by the Father.Where?
You have no idea who is willing to share or not. Just because they disagree with you does not mean they do not share or are unwilling to do so.My primary interest is seeing our money, through taxes, go to those in need. Others seem to have an interest of protecting their own money and unwillingness to share.
You are still confusing charity and taxes they are not the same. In fact they are the opposite. One is coerced and the other is given freely. Stop with the new speak let’s use words correctly. And through a decision to give, even through taxes, is charitable. To want it all for ourselves, or everyone for themselves, is not. I’m not ‘assuming’ anything. I am going by responses that are given. How many times has message been posted ‘not with my money’? It seems to say, we cannot depend on any government social programs to do the right thing, so we might as well not even try to make it better. Just better to scrap the whole thing. Yet the leader of our Church calls on governments? You have no idea who is willing to share or not. Just because they disagree with you does not mean they do not share or are unwilling to do so.
In fact, it’s very uncharitable for you to assume so.![]()
In a democracy, we can be charitable by voting for, and supporting, social programs to assist the needy. We can do that freely, or we can argue against it.You are still confusing charity and taxes they are not the same. In fact they are the opposite. One is coerced and the other is given freely. Stop with the new speak let’s use words correctly.
Wrong on all counts because, as I pointed out, you are assuming.I’m not ‘assuming’ anything. I am going by responses that are given. How many times has message been posted ‘not with my money’?
