I’m sure you have donated to charity. Do you usually check how much actually makes it to the needy?

You seriously think the government is efficient?

I vote you have all your goods ‘taken’ so I can ‘give’ to the needy.
You seem to be in a habit of avoiding answering direct questions and provide more questions in response.🤷

It is hypocritical to think that a single party would make up an efficient government if you doubt the efficiency of government. It is just as contradictory to say an inefficient government could provide any of Christ’s teachings, e.g. the end of abortion, if you doubt the efficiency of government.

In America, we the people, are the government, whether we serve in office, or vote for those in office and influence them with letters, emails, and phone calls. If the government is inefficient, we the people are also inefficient.

Once more, people use every excuse in the book, what about non-Christians, do you think the government is really efficient, or we are to give not be taken away from, to distract from the real worry of ‘not my money’…

I pray that we all give with glad hearts and that no one has to suffer without help.

Your argument is really about the proper role of government in a free society. To establish that understanding here is a test about basic principles:

My grandmother needs some medicines maybe a cataract surgery but she is a little short of cash. I don’t want my grandmother to suffer. Now, lets say you are walking down the street and I whip out my 22 stub nose and demand all the money you got or I’ll kill you. I also tell you, because I want you to feel good about this, you are doing your Christian duty and need to be happy about my robbing you. I want you to be happy knowing your money will go to pay for grannies meds and surgery with 60% going to me for the cost of my bullets, gun and other overhead expenses.

Your test question…ready… am I doing God’s work, a great act of charity or am I an armed robber?
Your analogy is silly and nowhere near the reality of the discussion, in my honest opinion. We are not in fear of our lives from taxes. As I’ve explained to another poster, we the people are the government in America. It is through our decisions that we decide ‘everyone for themselves’, or ‘we should share what we’ve been blessed with in this great country so that no one goes without’.

I already give ‘my money’ to whom I choose.

I don’t want you to give away ‘my money’ to whom you choose.😉

I’ve met Europeans that have come to the U.S. for treatment. They are wealthy. The reason they came here is because of severe health issues, such as cancer. The treatment here is naturally better. Care is rationed (or “prioritized”) whether one wishes to believe it or not. When faced with treated 1,000 for a flu, or giving someone chemo for a year, the 1,000 people with the flu win.

Middle class people do go to other countries for various reasons. The reason is almost exclusively that the treatment is not covered by insurance, and it can be done for a fraction of the cost overseas, even when considering the costs of flying and staying there.
And where do the poor people, without insurance, go?

One also has to consider that the middle class risk losing everything due to some medical conditions. The number one reason for private bankruptcies in America is due to health problems.

I choose the hungry, the homeless, the naked, and the sick, as the Lord taught us to give to.

Nothing wrong with that…it is much better doing that than giving it to the government to squander.🙂
The government has the greatest outreach to reach the majority of people. I would suppose that’s why the Pope called on governments to prioritize healthcare for all.

Agreed. The poor and middle class are stuck with the service the government is dishing out. I’m glad you see it my way.
Spinning another poster’s quotes to mean the opposite of what is said is not an honest tactic in discussions, or debates.

Good, give them your money, not mine.

You can’t force charity. Then it stops being charity.

Jesus commanded charity, not taxes.

“They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them”.

While it seems some are against healthcare, I guess the honest question would be, if we cut the social programs and do away with a universal healthcare, would you also refuse care for anyone that could not afford it?

People who cannot pay is the reason some of the healthcare industry states that healthcare costs are as high as they are. It’s being offset by those who can afford it, or have the insurance to cover it.

So why are you saying I should give my money to the government? They aren’t homeless, naked or sick.
Your quotes are distracting to the discussion. How many times have I said, we the people are the government and we the people are many who are poor and without.

Whatever…it seems to me that Christ said render unto Caesar’s that which is Caesar’s, and that was a much worse ‘non-Christian’ government than what we have in America. Or so I thought it was.

Is it all about money? Seems Christ taught to built up treasures in heaven and not on earth…

Your posts are distracting to the discussion. The people of the government are mainly interested in extracting votes from those who are poor and without.

Well back in the day my kids got tonsillitis, twice in a year, out came the tonsils. That was twenty years ago. Insurance companies are using the NICE criteria and other government guideline they can find to cut back on cost.
I had mine removed at nine and they in the U.S. screwed it up. I still can’t swallow right to this day. My parents later regretted having them removed.

I always thought the Christian Scientist had a good point.

Let’s see, I quote scripture to back up my assertations and your reply is “whatever”?

How many times have you quoted Jesus in this thread?

How is it that all the people who advocate using the coercive power of the government to do “God’s work” never can answer the question.
Your analogy is silly and nowhere near the reality of the discussion, in my honest opinion. We are not in fear of our lives from taxes.
You had better be afraid of not paying the IRS. Try owing the government money and see how it goes. They can confiscate you bank account, garnish your wages , seize your property and sell it at auction and on top of all that they can throw you in jail. If you resist enough they will use lethal force, they do have guns.
As I’ve explained to another poster, we the people are the government in America.
If so facto then I declare myself King of America and dissolve the Congress, SCUS, and I want that empty suit in the Whitehouse out of there by tomorrow. 😃 Reality check, we are the citizens of the US and nothing more. If we are not fellons and reach the age of majority we can vote.
It is through our decisions that we decide
We decide nothing we vote for representatives who do the deciding. We are not a democracy we are a republic where the parties seem to be beholden to their biggest campaign donor. They seem to be different wings of the same corporatist party. IMHO
‘everyone for themselves’, or ‘we should share what we’ve been blessed with in this great country so that no one goes without’.
Hard looking at reality?
