Beng,
Why are you so uncharitable? Why are you so afraid of God given emotion? And why have you come to this thread?..I certainly hope it’s not to hijack it…cause it’s not gonna happen!!!
Annunciata:mad:
BENG is only stating CATHOLIC truth. If you or anyone sees this as: “uncharitable” my God, what have we gotton to in the Church? A philosophical principal=truth attacks nothing but NON-truth. The HOLY GHOST comes to us Catholic in BAPTISM and again at CONFIRMATION. To repeat what a Bishoip once said: “It is THEOLOGICALLY incorrect to state that one has all the the gifts of the Holy Ghost, etc, yet some who claim this have not even been CONFIRMED!” Reminds me of the MONTANIST HERESY? Another greta clergyman said not so a couple of years ago: :some people no longer say I THINK so and so, but rather i FEEL so and so." How sad that some think that God can only be FELT, and hence through away all logic and thehuman reason and intellect in searh of quick thrills and emotions. Time for CATHOLICS to be CATHOLICS and to stop trying to be baptists and pentecostals.

I think the point here is that beng has been persistently posting things which robertaf specifically requested not to in the very beginning. As has been stated before, there are plenty of threads to discuss the validity of the Charismatic movement. This is not one of them.

Obviously, you have certain reservation with regards to the movement. However, I think it is unfair for you to say that Beng is speaking “CATHOLIC truth” - as if the Charismatics are not. With all due respects to “a Bishoip”, I believe that God can work outside of the normative means (Baptism by desire, for example). I do not see why God would not give his Holy Spirit to those who earnestly desire for him, and ask for his gifts. Fr. Cantalamessa, the Papal preacher, has stated in an interview regarding the Charismatic Renewal; “the external signs can be different, but in its essence, it is an experience meant for all the baptized”. He also tells us that it is not something to be feared:
I want to say to the faithful, to bishops, to priests, not to be afraid. I don’t know why there is fear. Perhaps, in some measure, because this experience began in other Christian confessions, such as Pentecostals and Protestants.

However, the Pope is not afraid. He has spoken of the ecclesial movements, and also of Charismatic Renewal, as signs of a new springtime of the Church, and he often stresses the importance of this. And Paul VI said it was an opportunity for the Church.
Now, you said:
Time for CATHOLICS to be CATHOLICS and to stop trying to be baptists and pentecostals
I understand that it is necessary to live a sacramental life, and to be obedient to the Church, but there is nothing wrong with longing for the Holy Spirit and practicing his Charisms. Mary, our Mother and the model disciple, was a Charismatic. She was present in the upper chamber at Pentecost. Do you think you’re more Catholic than Mary? 😉

God bless,
TTM

I’m very proud of their zeal and love for the Holy Catholic Church…wouldn’t it be wonderful if all Catholics were so dedicated?.. However it the case of these poor misguided souls who are blinded by some hurt or confusion over what the CCR truly is…I’m praying for them instead. :gopray:
I love you Beng, Miserie and Tru.
God bless and keep you and may your eyes be opened as were those on the “Road to Emmaus”…

First, I have NEVER said I am more catholic than Mary. Secondly, what does the WORD CATHOLIC mean?? And what LANGUAGE does the word come from? Thirdly, YES Mary was present at Pentecost, but the Scripture passage says that those gathered HEARD the SOUNDS of a strong wind. Hardly what goes on in many charismatic mases where people cannot hear each other because of all the clapping, noise etc. In order to HEAR and feel the presence of God’s voice within us, we must search for CONTEMPLATION as all the great mystics and doctors of the church have taught us. I doubt one will hear the spirit and much less feel Him if one is dancing or spinning on the floor or listening to electric guitars:tiphat: .

Hi, SuZ

:yup: 'Tis I, one and the same.

I’ve been following your work on the SI newsletter. Keep up the good work.

Do you ever get back to see Msgr. Walsh. His Web site has mostly disappeared. I don’t know if he’s still around or not. I’ve read most of his books (good material but somewhat dated…written pre-PC era).
Thanks for reading and commenting on our conference newsletter
siconference.com/

Msgr Walsh’s site is on the Presentation BVM site, under Key of David Publications. The prayer meetings are listed and a 2005 conference is scheduled. No one from our parish has gone recently. I went about 2 years ago.

Thanks SuZ. You’re right, of course. This is not the place. I apologise. I just find it very hard not to answer all the unwarranted prejudices. Perhaps I’ll try private messaging.

God bless you!

I just want to say,

God bless you all!

and,

Remember that love is the greatest of all the Charisms.

Hi, FrankvT
who asked for sites that might help his sister in law deal with bitterness about the CCR
I’ve had this request several times. I’ve always sent people to the following site. It’s the site of the late Father Al Lauer who was involved with the Charismatic Renewal for many, many years. I’ll try to link to some of the brochures that deal with Forgiveness: 3 brochures. Hope this works and that it helps.
PS: If you haven’t seen this site before, it’s well worth visiting and reading ALL the brochures. Fr. Lauer is one of the few people who has imprimaturs and nihil obstats on his works, FWIW.

Annunciata:
Well Katolik, I don’t consider mysep a heretic and I’d much prefer calling it “Resting in the Spirit”. I didn’t believe in it at first as w/ tongues… I went to a healing service back in 1976 and people were going up to the altar as in the old days for Communion standing along in a line…I was exhausted as I had been sitting in the pew for a least 3 hours to please someone who had asked me just to come and see…
My back ached, I had a pain in my neck and I certainly was not disposed to this “thing” the priest approached me…and just barely touched my forehead and I fell backwards like a feather. I new exactly what was going on…only I just wanted to stay in this most beautiful peace. I was helped back to my pew and continued to “rest in the Spirit”…then I began to sob and sob and sob…what a tremendous release.
Anyway, I know it’s real.
Annunciata:)
Why were you crying?

Frank, I am sorry that she had a bad experience. My concern would be to understand what sort of bad experience: it is difficult to address something so general as that. I can direct you to several website with good explanations. I’d also recommend that you ask your local archdiocesan offices if there is a Catholic Charismatic Community operating near you anywhere. Maybe you can find one and ask one of their leaders to visit with you, or with her.

Try any of these sites to begin.

Like all lay apostolates, we charismatics have our share of difficult people, and we have had our share of spiritual pride and divisions as well. This does not however invalidate the usefulness of this movement to the Body of Christ. I will pray for your sister during my hour of weekly prayer watch for the church tonight.

But for the Renewal, I would not be in the Church today. I find it important to remember that all Masses are healing Masses. Too often the focus is on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and not on The Giver of The Gifts. In my diocese there isn’t much talk about sin and Reconciliation. We do a lot of interior decorating instead of decorating of interiors. It certainly increases prayertime. A good prayer is openess to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in oneself, church, and diocese. God can act in a zillionth of a nano second while we may stumble if not open to change. There is a lot of resistance here to the renewal.

Tears of joy! I had received inner healings of some kind…probably released from fear and hurts…not sure but I really came to know the Holy Spirit after that experience.
The words coming to me now are from a song: I walk with God and He takes my hand…I walk with God and He understands… Gods ways are not our ways…and if I have His Joy and Peace, well that’s just good enough for me. Hope that helps.
God Bless, Annunciata:)

Just wanted to come in and give thanks and praise to our Lord Jesus for answering our prayers. Prayer moves the hand of God. We are united in Jesus Christ and may His Spirit continue to flow through our brothers and sisters. May His peace and His love be with all that come to this Forum . God Bless.

I am ignoring this debate, if you don’t believe it is from God then just ask him if it is or isn’t that simple, I don’t see how being open to the Holy Spirit and his gifts is dangerous but I respect your views, anyhow, I suppose I just contributed, my main purpose is to encourage all of you hard-core Charismaniacs out there like me. I am a Charismatic from Ann Arbor sent by the Spirit to Steubenville (Along with 7 others) and the Lord is starting to Heat some things up here Hallelujah! Pray for us, I have a feeling if people are open a revival is about to happen. Open the flood gates of Heaven Lord!!
