Greetings Elderon

Welcome. Please don’t worry, no debate allowed in this thread.

I agree with you, revival is just on the verge.

Praise be to God!

Elderon, I have a niece currently at Stuebenville Univ. (she’s a senior in the DRE program), and several of my alum (I am a teacher) also attending or recently graduated.

Plus I am showing my 6th grade class right now the wonderful Jeff Cavins video class, “The Great Adventure”, which is all about the Bible as it connects to actual history. Way cool. Love that University!

Hey the conference of Charismatic Catholics worldwide, held in Fuiggi Italy the last week of October, was GREAT! Over 1500 attendees, with a strong emphasis on outreach and evangelization. Did anyone here go?

Too bad this thread has been hijacked, if anyone feels like starting a thread for Catholic Charismatic Spiritual Talk and Sharing I will join it. Wish those who wish to have a thread for Bashing Authentic Orthodox Catholic Spirituality Expressions I Know Absolutely Nothing About would start their own posting, preferably on another web forum.

misericordie:
BENG is only stating CATHOLIC truth. If you or anyone sees this as: “uncharitable” my God, what have we gotton to in the Church? A philosophical principal=truth attacks nothing but NON-truth. The HOLY GHOST comes to us Catholic in BAPTISM and again at CONFIRMATION. To repeat what a Bishoip once said: “It is THEOLOGICALLY incorrect to state that one has all the the gifts of the Holy Ghost, etc, yet some who claim this have not even been CONFIRMED!” Reminds me of the MONTANIST HERESY? Another greta clergyman said not so a couple of years ago: :some people no longer say I THINK so and so, but rather i FEEL so and so." How sad that some think that God can only be FELT, and hence through away all logic and thehuman reason and intellect in searh of quick thrills and emotions. Time for CATHOLICS to be CATHOLICS and to stop trying to be baptists and pentecostals.
Best post on this topic.

How sad some of you think that God can not be felt? Maybe God made a mistake giving us feelings? How many of you have FELT the presence of the Lord at one time or another? Has Gods annoiting not touched us. 😦

Greetings

Just a reminder for folks who do not know.

THIS FORUM IS NOT FOR DEBATE.

This was started and is still a forum where Charismatics or non-charismatics can come and chat and share without being concerned with defending the Renewal or debate.
I would ask you all to respect it.

Hi
It was not you violating the rules. I am sorry it looked like that.
I know what you mean about wanting to defend what we know is true.
It is the folks who come into the thread wanting to argue that I was addressing.

Good Evening Church

I was wondering if any of you have taken part in a type of Contemplation that centers on a particular Scripture.

We use to do this in Prayer group, we would take one scripture, for example the Road to Emmaus and after reading and praying, go silent and picture ourself with Jesus and while holding His hand listen to what He has to say. We make it very personal. We use to spend about 40 minutes in deep prayerful contemplation.

We would use a different Gospel each time but every time it was very personal with Our Lord.

Hi Roberta,
The Franciscan Center out here leads us in Lectio Divina–the prayerful reading of the Bible.

It is different from what you describe, in that it is a prolonged study of one verse, or possibly even a part of a verse. We did it in a group setting which lasted about 20-30 minutes. This is the description from the Contemplative Outreach site, but it is as we were led. It is a very peaceful type of prayer, and gets better with practice.

The classical practice of Lectio Divina was done in private and consisted in following the movement of the Holy Spirit in regard to the time one might devote to each step of the process, as well as passing from one step to another during the same period of prayer. Following a particular structure, such as is required in all forms of common prayer, tends to limit spontaneity to the movement of the Holy Spirit, which is the heart of the practice.

Praying the scriptures in common might well be regarded as a kind of “Liturgy of Lectio Divina” or even better, as a kind of shared “Liturgy of the Word.” With some variations, it usually goes like this: A passage is read out loud three or four times followed by two or three minutes of silence. After each reading the participants apply themselves inwardly to the text in specified ways.
After the first reading, they become aware of a word or phrase. After the second they reflect about the meaning or significance of the text.
After the third reading, they respond in spontaneous prayer. After the fourth reading, they simply rest in God’s presence and after a period of silence, those who wish are invited to do a brief faith sharing on the text. In some cases there is a brief sharing after the third or fourth reading and period of silence.

Yes,Robertaf, I can remember doing this type of meditation. Personally these were some of the most powerful and intimate moments the Lord and I would have. At times I would write down what the Lord was speaking to me. and after all was done I would reread what the Lord spoke to me. I just couldnt read without breaking down. I know they were not my words but the Lords. Just in case anybody asks does God speak to us.?This is a wonderful way to let the Lord speak to you. Thanks for shareing those experiences. God Bless.

The charismatic prayer group I take part in (which tends toward the more contemplative side) does this also. After a couple of readings, we focus on a certain word or phrase that strikes each of us, and we try to meditate on that word during the week. We’ve done this a couple of times so far (it’s a new-ish group), and some of the insights that were shared were very inspired.

Cheers,
TTM

Question for the other Charismatic Catholics in here: Anyone have much experience with visions? If so, could you share? How are visions in yopur prayer groups shared with the community? Do the ones having the visions go to the leadership first or do they go to the whole body?

A woman in our prayer groups has recently started having visions, and she is troubled by this new gift because she feels unworthy, and she has admitted that she has not always shared the visions she has with the leadership because she does not understand what they mean. Like most of us, she is cautious to test what she receives: is it me or is it from God? But her visions have thus far been born out as true in every case. In some cases, her visions were literally answers to prayers about situations which she knew nothing of, but about which the leaders of our prayer group were begging God for clear direction on. (sorry for the awful grammatical structures there!)

Just would like to hear other people’s experiences with visions.

Hi
Great topic MakerTeacher.
I can share a little bit about this but can’t tonight.
Will try to get with it this week.

For about 3 days have had very stiff and sore neck that is disturbing my sleep and causing me much pain at work. I would appreciate your prayers. Seeing massage therapist at noon tomorrow.

Promise to get back in gear with this thread soon as I am feeling good again.

okay, so you had a bad experience with charismatic spirituality or the charismatic movement, and now advise everybody that it is evil and warped. So what, I had a bad experience with back surgery, should I tell everybody that orthopedic surgeons are evil and back surgery is the work of the devil?
