Sooner, that’s a false choice. To say that the church was built by Jesus on Peter the Rock, you don’t have to deny the Church’s “foundation” on the Truth. Besides, I’m not certain whether the Bible ever calls Jesus a “rock,” per se, but it clearly calls him a “cornerstone.” If you think about it, a “foundation” must contain a cornerstone, which literally and figuratively is considered the most important part of the foundation.

I agree that Jesus didn’t abandon us. But its important to soberly consider how exactly Jesus will “be with us until the end of time.” With his teachings as found only in the Bible? What about oral teachings not found in a canonical epistle or gospel? See 2 Thess. 2:15. Moreover, although I agree that the Bible is instructive, it doesn’t always admit of just one obvious interpretation. How do we know which is correct? Open up your KJV or NIV and it will just come to you? Truly devout and God-fearing people have done just that, and come to starkly different conclusions about serious issues that impact every Christian. Do you conclude that the Holy Spirit failed one of them? Or could it possibly be (and I actually ask this seriously to those more informed than I) that we’re asking more of the Holy Spirit than we’re entitled to?
You sure you’re not Catholic already? 🙂

however you are on a totally different playing feild when you start talkig about once saved always saved… are you a preist??? because you sure are pushy…no offence just saying with my experience with cathoilics most preists are pretty pushy!!!

and honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me

Nope, but I’m married to a wonderful Southern Baptist woman whom I want to join me wherever I go. If I intend to enter into communion with the Church, I gotta be able to explain to my bride why I want her to accompany me. Gotta know what I’m talking about.

Off to bed, best of luck Sooner & Cheer4Christ, I’ll pray for each of you.

No the Gospel of Thomas is not in the Bible. Why? Because the Church did not identify it as being divinely inspired and allow it; as it teaches false theology. The Bible you cite and interpret [incorrectly] and not in keeping with the faith tradition from which it [the Bible] springs forth is the Canon of the Church. Canon; as in that the docuements the core beliefs and understanding of a community of believers. That community understands the Traditions from which the documents were written.

First came the Church then Tradition, then the Scriptures. The Church understands and recognizes the primacy of Peter ampoung the apostles. The Church has practiced apostolic succession since Judas was replaced and St, Paul had to meet with Peter to have his ministry apporved.

I plan on being one. Sorry if I am pushy. I’ll try to scale back. 🙂

He says “if” any man builds with those his work will come to light. It’s saying don’t put your heart in physical objects. Tell me, will the physical things a man builds survive the fire God has said willl consume everything. Or, will the spiritual things. Such as his faith. I see where you think we are going to be cleansed, and I do too. I just fail to see where it says it will take any time at all.

God is ALL POWERFUL as well so there fore he has the power to clense us when ever or were ever he wants to but if you don’t belive that then i think you are going to need alot more prayer then i thought!!!

i’m afraid I can’t except them. The reason they haven’t been added is b/c incosistencies were found when compared to the other (name removed by moderator)ired works.

Amen, as a Catholic I believe that 100%, our worship must be centered on Christ as Mass is done.
We center our worship on the one Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross as any thing we do pales in comparison to Jesus our Saviour.

If my worship is not centered on Christ it is then not honoring God and man based. It must be centered on "rememberance of Jesus and His Sacrifice.

If our worship is just singing, a man preaching, or prayers then it is made up by men. We should focus on Jesus first everything even the Bible is second to Jesus.

If it is centered on Jesus dying for our sins and praising Him in union with the Angels and Saints in Heaven then it is worship.

dbacks was asking if I would look at some scriptures from other books that aren’t found in my bible about purgatory.

Time actually doesn’t matter, as that isn’t part of the Catholic teaching on God purifying us, we express it as time sometimes to show the fact that some will require more cleansing than others.
(so there is no problem unless we can prove that time is the contention of belief, Catholics don’t care if it is expressed in time)
Not everyone has the same amount of purification that God will need to do to us as we enter Heaven.
