Catholics, what do you do with 1 John 5? It contradicts RCC doctrine concerning the assurance of salvation. See for yourself.

Lol! I new jp was being dishonest when caliming he was catholic! This shows you are not to be trusted since you lie! The wholr milk to meat thing really gave it away! Ilearned this too back when I was protestant. Yes the thoery and quotes can be insperational for spiritual maturity but I learned in my studies at liberty university to become a protestant minister that protestant interpretation of the bible was skewed and not relevant to the original texts and there meanings, however the catholic church was right on with the original text. History shows also it is the first church and wrote the bible. So if you want to move on from the milk and mature to the meat then practice the catholic faith!
hi jake, so let me see if i read you rite. knowing god personally gave me away as not being catholic? catholics are not to know god? or it just ticks you off that i claim to know god?

The fact that you are clueless to what the Catholic Church actually teaches, and the fact that you obvioiusly believe in your own authority avove all are what gave it away for me.

Wrong. Nowhere in the Bible does it state that the how of being “born again” is to ask Jesus to have you born again.".

Jesus said you must be born “of water and spirit”. He is very specific about that. This is baptism.

Read up on what Baptism means so that you will learn how to be really “born again”. The ritual that protestants go to do not make them born again because this is not according to Christ’s prescription.hey ben, i dont mean to get off the subject, but your tone sounds familiar. i cant put my finger on it. but it might come to me. maybe im just imagining things.so ben, when was the last time you cracked a bible? KJV, i mean.paul thought he was doing god a favor by jailing and killing born again folks.he was a member of the big religion of his day. sound familiar? he wasnt saved on the road to damascus. but you know that, being a big scholar. he was led to christ by some scared to death saved dudes once he got in town.paul then accepted jesus as lord.like i said, if you arent born again, you can read the bible millions of times and not see one thing.

Wrong again. Paul was “born again” even though He did not want it at first. Remember his road to Damascus experience? He was very far from wanting to be baptized when Christ appeared to him.

Petal, that is your own interpretation. That is not what the Bible teaches. Before ascending Jesus said to His disciples :

Matthew 28: 19-20
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."

And that last bit in blue is Christ’s promise to His Church.

I asked this in another thread.

Let us look at Jimmy Swaggart. Would you say that he was “born again”? Yet look at what happened,. he committed adultery again and again.

So, was he born again really? I am sure he was convinced that he was “born again”.
hey ben, i used to watch jim swaggart every sunday. his message was pretty good. if somewans to sound like born again people, you listen to them and parrot it.well, he sounded saved to me all those yrs ago. but there were things that didnt agree with my spirit. born again peole can mess up. take me for example. of sinners, i am chief.say ben, what gives you the heebee jeebees about being saved? oh, i wont keep you in the dark, in rev, i think chapt 1 says you can invite jesus in. so my brother, why dont you invite him in? it will improve your understanding of the bible greatly. oh, and you get to go to heaven.

Your lack of understanding of what constitutes the “temple” seems to be a large part of the problem. The Catholic Church is all about God. It isn’t a building. It is Jesus’ visible Church on earth teaching His Deposit of Faith as it has always taught in unity and oneness for 2,000 years. You choose to believe something made of man in the last few hundred years.

hey always. interesting choise of words grasshopper. you claim i believe in man made ideas. my grandma used to say…thats the pot calling the skillet black.

A troll is some one who does one of these things.

Purposely comes onto a Thread and tries to derail it by spouting off wrong info and getting us off topic.

Purposely tries to pick fights on a thread that has no grounds what so ever.

Is completely Ignorant of what they claim and tries to put of the air that they are right and just and know better then everyone else.

also a troll is a mean green skinned monster that lives under bridges and tries to eat goats as they pass over.
my grandma used to say…if you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all. im taking her advice because i have alot to saY about this post, and none of it nice.

The Whole letter must be read, it say’s that to be a child of God you can not sin, No one who is a child of God sins, take all the letter, not just a portion. It also says to obey jesus is to obey the commands, just believing is not enough, you must also do the will of God, There is such a thing as enabling, where you do harm instead of good by preventing the growth of an individual.
hey black, so, you stopped sinning?

wow jake, you were dang close on most points.i need to cover my tracks better
No you just need to grow up and take god seriouse enough to realize that your losed minded ideas of christ are not real and though you may go to heaven you will not mature spiritualy the same way you lack maturity in general. Good luck with your journey for the truth! Hey its good you have joined a catholic forum!

wow… they took the confessional out of your Church??? That’s bizarre… Nobody at my Church ever USES the confessional (except @ Christmas/Easter maybe) but at least its still there… (I think when its not Christmas or Easter, its used for a broom closet 😃 )…

Why am i laughing… its really not all that funny, is it??

anyway… thanks for the compliment… I don’t get many of them here @ CAF, as you may know… 🤷

…a definite plan of salvation…

yes, doing everything Jesus said is definitely that… I think a lot of non-Catholics think that we Catholics have absolutely NO assurance of salvation… but at least we have assurance of Purgatory (which IS salvation…) as long as we do all Jesus said… which involves being a member of His Church. You are a member of the Church, aren’t you?

I mean, it doesn’t say that, verbatim, in the Bible… so lots of Protestants disagree with it… but it is rather implied there… in my opinion. In any case, Jesus never wrote a book… He established a Church (St. Mt 16:18, etc)… and preached and told his apostles to preach… and baptize…

Anyway… God bless… 🙂
hey dis, i fall short of doing everything jesus said to do. so, i hope there is forgiveness somewhere, or im going to be at that big wiennie roast in the sky.i go to mass once in a while. jesus never established and organiztion. he deals with each person separately. and the whole group of svaed folks is his church. i hope you understand this. my friend

Again, I agree 100 percent with jp87. Simply dipping you in water doesn’t make you be born again. You do have to ask Jesus to have you born again.

So, how do you ask Jesus to have you born again? The Bible tells us, and gives definite directions on the way Jesus wants us to ask him. Not just any old way, but Jesus’ way. This way is described in 1 Peter 3:20,21, “…eight persons were saved through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience.”

When you are dipped into the waters of Baptism, you are not doing it to wash dirt off. Ordinarily when you bathe, you do it to wash dirt off, because water by its nature has that power.

In baptism, however, you do it to wash your conscience. Scripture explicitly states that baptism is itself the appeal, the prayer to God, to have your conscience washed.

So, baptism is the way Jesus wants you to ask Him to have you born from above.

And how do you know your prayer, your appeal, will be answered? Peter goes on to say, “…through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to him.” Jesus’ resurrection proves he can and will give the waters of baptism the power to clean your conscience, and you will be born from above. (Of course, when you are born from above, you are also born again!)

And it is true, when you are born again, you are a different person. Not only that, but a new person, a new creature.
hey mbris, bless you, for man has not revealed this to you. but the holy ghost.

Well for one little johny church simply means congregation of poeple! So the catholic church aka the universal congregation of poeple is the bride of christ not a temple and if you had an education and took christ seriouse enough you would know this! And another thing the saying goes “the pot calling the kettle black” but hey you seem to get allot of things wrong and that’s the least important. So… Are you going to respond to this thread with any inteligent writings or just more inmature child play? I think I already know the answer seeing you have failed to answer anything on here.
