This fella wasn’t hunting as we understand it. He is a rich fool looking to kill ‘prestige’ animals for pleasure. Truly the unspeakable in persuit of the inedible

Someone said to me that Christ would have died for Palmer even if he had been the only man in the world. I know that. Christ would have died for an abortion doctor even if he had been the only man in the world. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but it’s true. That doesn’t mean I approve of abortion. In no way do I approve of abortion. I think Roe vs. Wade needs overturned, but with this liberal court, i don’t see that happening.
Right. I think in the end you’re arguing natural vs artificial selection in the cosmic sense.

Theoretically if one argues that it’s okay to kill animals for the sake of killing them, then it is okay to kill an entire species off the face of the planet. EIther way it’s artificial selection and not quite what God intended IMO.

Why do people bring abortion into this? It seems slightly irrelevant. A foetus being a moral subject doesn’t mean we can ignore the way we treat animals.
It isn’t irrelevant. It puts the reactions of some into perspective by setting up a comparative measure by which to assess what ought to be an appropriate moral response.

Certainly we ought not “ignore the way we treat animals,” but clearly there is something amiss when the intensity of how we respond to the treatment of one animal far outstrips any response regarding the mistreatment of millions of our own kind.

You keep addressing an incorrect point. This head case didn’t go to Africs to carry out wildlife management. He went to gratuitously kill an animal. Zimbabwe are very very clear that they don’t consider this anything other than a crime. I know this is hard for you to understand but many people consider hunting for ‘sport’ a sub human pastime hunting for food fine killing for pleasue is something you should see a psychiatrist about
I see you are still trying to dispense psychiatry without a license.

It’s also quite clear at this point that you have no interest in truth, that you are so filled with hatred that you are willing to say anything to salve your sense of injustice.

Zimbabwe, in fact, allows hunters to kill lions with proper permits. The worst “crime” that has been committed here is poaching, which means killing without permit. If the dentist poached then that is a crime for which there is a civil penalty. We’ll see how the courts treat the matter.

I really don’t care what you and your kind consider to be or not to be sport. Perhaps I have not been sufficiently clear in my contempt for your opinion in this matter. You’ve had more than sufficient opportunity to make your case but all you have offered is ignorant pop psychology.

I am not the least bit surprised that you would consider hunters to be subhuman. That puts you just one step away from the people making death threats against the dentist.

I already knew there are dangerous people like you out there in the world. But thanks for the reminder.

I AM a Roman Catholic theologian.

How much plainer can that get? And I HAVE clarified it with OTHER Roman Catholic theologians. We are correct.
I shudder at the very thought. If you have to assert your authority as a theologian, you’ve probably already failed your theology.

You are? When did you graduate? From what place? Who are these theologians you have consulted? It is difficult to believe you when you do not define creation as other theologians do.

I have to point out I said the pastime was subhuman. Your contempt for my opinion is meaningless to me. I am not entirely sure what ‘my kind’ are, I suspect that is just a product of your fevered imagination. Still it reassuring that people with utter contempt for the opinions of others are suitably equipped with firearms

You’ve yet to offer any rational justification for you assertion that hunters are subhuman (or that hunting is subhuman). All you have offered is your opinion dressed up as pop psychology.

Yeah, that’s contemptible.

Might I suggest you at least try to read what I have written before. This act is beneath contempt. I think I have already said that hunting for food is just fine. No issue. Paying to shoot ‘prestige’ animals for pleasure (to me at least) demonstrates a need that isn’t normal

That’s not to say the local laws won’t change because of this act and the public outcry over it.

I agree 100%, what this looser did was not really hunting, his guides may have done the actual hunting, but what the dentist did was just KILL, I mean, the guy paid $50K, basically so he could sit back in comfort until his guides had his ‘prey’ in sight, then the dentist just came out and took the shot…that is his idea of hunting! lol

I think the dentist needs mental help, Im glad to see many of his patients are dropping him, no way would I let a guy like this work on my teeth.

Zimbabwe officials surely recognize all the public outcry, they will most definitely hand down a harsh sentence for him, Im fairly sure the public will demand it, Maybe a 5 year term in a Zimbabwe prison would be good for this guy.

We’ve been over this. Nobody hunts for food. And hunting for pleasure is older than civiliation.

Wildlife managementy requires killing wild animals. Not just the tasty ones but also the destructive and dangerous ones.

It is truly abnormal to insist, as you do, that there is something noble about killing animals for food but not for wildlife management.

Nor does it matter, as you claim, that the dentist is uninterested in wildlife management, though you offer no evidence for this claim. It is sufficient that he enjoys killing wild animals for sport because that means that those manage wildlife can charge people like him for the privalige of doing what needs to be done anyway. All that is required is that he obey the law and that is the only legitimate issue here.

The alternative to having hunters who enjoy hunting is to pay someone to do the same thing.

That’s, to use a word, is insane.

Maybe it does suggest that we have somewhat perverse priorities, but it doesn’t in any way excuse what happened. The fact that worse crimes happen doesn’t excuse lesser crimes. I don’t think it really matters how we currently view things, we really ought to condemn the suffering of animals as well as that of the unborn. Sometimes I feel like it’s just used as an excuse to ignore certain issues. I recall reading a Barbwire article about the mistreatment of whales as a form of entertainment, and the article basically suggested that because abortion takes place we can ignore animal cruelty, which doesn’t make any sense. The abortion issue almost always just seems to be brought up as a way to take attention away from other issues.

A lot of animals suffer at our hands, and I honestly struggle to see why most people believe their suffering is somehow acceptable compared to human suffering. This doesn’t really apply to Christians, since I appreciate that there are theological reasons to believe that humans are more important than animals, but for secular people it’s not something I’ve ever understood. People will happily purchase and consume meat, but become outraged at the death of a single lion.

There is nothing ‘noble’ about killing anything really. But killing animals for food or for management is something I do not object to. This man has previously been convicted in the U.S. for s similar crime. Killing for pleasure is what I have great difficulty with. And sorry yes I think it’s totally disordered

If he’s poached then let the law deal with him. His prior conviction certainly suggests he may not be innocent.

But that is not what we are discussing here. We’re discussing your assertion that hunting, per se, is disordered, abnormal, subhuman, and psychologically disturbed.

All you have offered for these strong opinions is, well, nothing really. Just your opinion.

To get worked up over the killing of this or any other wild animal, as you and the rest of the mob are, is disordered.

If killing needs to be done then it ought to be done with pleasure and those most pleased with it ought to be given the opportunity to do the job.

Thank God for hunters.

Frankly I think you make my case for me

The abortion issue almost always just seems to be brought up as a way to take attention away from other issues.
Given the emphasis in the media on these “other issues” and the lack of media response to the clearly outrageous goings on at PP, an unbiased assessment of where the “attention” has gone simply disproves your point.

Thousands of babies dismembered daily at PP and their body parts trafficked: very little media attention and a whole lot of handwaving. One lion shot: the “entire” world is outraged.

According to you that is proportionate attention. I disagree. It is clearly disproportionate according to any clear and unbiased moral caliper.

In fact, I would argue, that the proper calibration of a functional moral conscience could be reliably ascertained by the proportionate amount of outrage a supposedly “moral” human being apportions, here and now, to these two virtually concurrent events.

Actually, I am quite disappointed by this observation.

Would you have applied Godwin’s Law to the aftermath of WWII when normal German citizens were forced by Patton to view the horror of the death camps?

Here we have in front of our attention what PP has been up to regarding dismembering and selling baby parts and all you can offer is, “Meh, Godwin’s Law.”
