Nice one.…er…and Hillary’s viewpoints should be outraging Chicago Catholics!

Yes, I know…that’s why I used the sarcasm smiley. It does not matter if he changed his mind, those are the formal positions of the Church.
Yeah, I know you were being sarcastic.Yes, I know…that’s why I used the sarcasm smiley.
But, when Hillary is speaking to Catholics…in Chicago…she should be explaining why her views on Abortion, Gay Marriage and Stem Cell Research are all at odds with the Church.
More than likely she will claim that on the whole she is more in line with Catholic teachings than Republicans are. Two years ago the Democrats Congressmen did a survey that showed they voted “Catholic” on far more issues than their republcian Coutererparts did. In their survey being opposed to a law setting mercury standards for thermometers was given the same against catholic teaching weight as supporting partial Birth Abortion.Yeah, I know you were being sarcastic.
Or, more likely, she will explain why her views on those topics are somehow in complete harmony with the the faith.
I remember that joke of a survey, it did not fool anyone.More than likely she will claim that on the whole she is more in line with Catholic teachings than Republicans are. As Cardinal Ratzinger clearly explained no issue or combination of issues trump abortion and euthanaia.
You don’t petition for a monarchy. A sword has to pop up from the Lady of the Lake…everyone knows that. How does one petition for a Catholic monarchy?
CDL
Arthur: “The Lady of the Lake, her arm
clad in the purest shimmering samite,
held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of
the water, signifying by Divine
Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry
Excalibur. That is why I am your king!”
Dennis: “Listen. Strange women lying in
ponds distributing swords is no basis
for a system of government. Supreme
executive power derives from a mandate
from the masses, not from some farcical
aquatic ceremony!”
Yeah, it can get pretty nasty. And what is said here is at least moderated. I remember one signature directing you to a blog where some really vile stuff was being said by “Catholics.”I’m sorry, but I don’t understand this thread at all.
I’m not a Hilary Clinton supporter, but I am a Catholic in Chicago, and I am a Democrat, also like most of Chicago.
From reading this thread, it seems like most people here think that Democrats are terrible people or something. I don’t get it. It doesn’t seem like a very Catholic to me.
Cardinal George is a wonderful man and leader. I just wonder why he would let Hillary speak? We need not worry about Cardinal George’s integrity or where he stands on issues. He is definitely not a liberal or a secularist. He is very hard-working,outspoken on abortion, and places a high priority on evangelization.
You can read about him at catholicnewworld.com
I agree -I think he got blindsided by this-I suspect that he has taken steps to make sure this does not happen again.Cardinal George is a wonderful man and leader. I just wonder why he would let Hillary speak?
I hope so. Cardinal George is seen as one of our best leaders, let’s hope he sticks to orthodoxy.I agree -I think he got blindsided by this-I suspect that he has taken steps to make sure this does not happen again.
As soon as you make one, we’ll alert the media.I should have known better than to try to make a logical point in a thread like this…
I would hope the Holy See would look at the individual decision and not judge an action on the individual’s station.Anyway…
What exactly has the Cardinal done that is wrong here? There is no formal canonical ‘ban’ on anyone speaking on Catholic property that is universal and binding.
Abp. Burke chose one way to stand up to someone who disagrees with the church…Cardinal George has chosen another.
Hmmm…one man is Cardinal of a huge archdiocese…the other is archbishop in a place where he probably will always be…
I wonder which approach the holy see prefers?
The better question is: which is the right approach?I should have known better than to try to make a logical point in a thread like this…
Anyway…

BTW, Cardinal George came from the Portland, Oregon diocese, where he was Bishop. Portland has roughly 193,000, Catholics, and St. Louis has roughly 555,000 Catholics, which means the St. Louis diocese is 2 3/4 times larger than the Portland diocese and Cardinal George was Bishop there for less than a year before he was transferred to Chicago. By your reckoning, Archbishop Burke should have been named to Chicago before Bishop George, since you seem to think it is all about size.I should have known better than to try to make a logical point in a thread like this…

I’m simply pointing out that Chicago is much more prominent that St. Louis insofar as giving it’s ordinary a bit of a ‘bully pulpit’.BTW, Cardinal George came from the Portland, Oregon diocese, where he was Bishop. Except it is an indirect approval of Hillary’s politics.I’m simply pointing out that Chicago is much more prominent that St. Louis insofar as giving it’s ordinary a bit of a ‘bully pulpit’.
Personally, I think Abp Burke was rather restrained in how he dealt with his concerns, at least in comparison to the way he normally has dealt with such matters.
There is really nothing wrong with the Cardinal’s approach to this. It’s within his competent and ordinary authority to go about this in such a way.
