The veneer of civilized society is very, very thin and is very easy to break when people’s natural proclivities are covered up with this artificial form of civility called “political correctness”.
Correct, Scott. 👍

Good for Chik-Fil-A for standing up for morality even when it isn’t popular or beneficial to business.

I have always enjoyed their food and appreciated that they close on Sunday.
From the Ashes:

I have to agree with you: it seems a shame that a company who promotes family values is depicted by some as “haters” ! Too much PC business . I think CFA is great and thank them for supporting traditional marriage, the family and being closed on Sunday!

TRULY, scripture is infallibly correct when, in APOCALYPSE (Revelation) it warns that
unless you take the "Mark of the Beast– i.e., openly support evil ((this does not refer to an implant of some stupid, morally-neutral computer chip))— you will not be able to either BUY or SELL, but be DRIVEN OUT OF BUSINESS. It is happening now, and it is only going to escalate. Support evil, or be driven out of business and starve. All in the name of diversity. This needs to be stopped by any means necessary. Start by a daily novena to ST MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL FOR THE REVERSAL OF THESE DEMON-INSPIRED LAWS and the REMOVAL FROM OFFICE of ALL POLITICIANS who support them.

WOW. I will pray for this mayor. That is completely uncalled for.

I read the article. While it’s worrisome, there are a few points I’d like to make, to put this in perspective:
  1. This is from a page called “Huffington Gay Voices”. The very name should tell you that this is a biased source, and that they are likely to put a sensationalist slant on things.
  2. No action has been taken yet. A petty politician’s “vow” is hardly worth the air molecules that moved during its pronouncement, at least in my experience. This could just be a bit of political posturing meant to appease “gay rights” activists, perhaps to win votes. Morally reprehensible? Certainly. But equal to the Mark of the Beast in the Revelation to St. John? I think that’s more than a little hyperbolic.
  3. Even if this mayor does go ahead with this action, I’m sure there are legal measures that can be initiated against such a move. Even posters in the comments section of the article (and we’re talking about a gay, liberal news source here!) felt that the guy was way out of line, and I’m sure a judge will agree with them.
  4. This is the isolated act of one person against one company. We’re not talking widespread persecution of Christianity or Christian businesses here, certainly not on the scale of the Neronian persecution (and its pagan Roman successors) that Revelation originally alluded to. The battle between good and evil has been raging for millennia now, and it’s not helpful to confuse border skirmishes with pitched battles, or pin-pricks with open wounds.
  5. While I strongly condemn this act, I also urge posters to consider two things: first, this is relatively minor compared to what the Saints and martyrs for our Faith have had to contend with. Comparing this incident to their experiences is, frankly, a little belittling to them. (To put this in a modern perspective, I’d invite you to reflect on what it’s like for Catholics living in “socialist secular” countries, or a country where another religion is in the minority. Most of us have more serious things to worry about than one mayor mouthing off.)
  6. Marian_love said it all: pray for this misguided soul. If the prayers of St. Therese could bring about the conversion of a hardened criminal on the scaffold, anything is possible; “for nothing will be impossible with God.” 🙂

Thank you. I aspire to be like St. Therese…she is a patron saint of mine.

So are you saying that there is some kind of labor law against company executives voicing thier opinions about same-sex marriage? Let me assure you there is not.

It doesn’t matter if all of CFA’s employees identified as homosexual, the president is still entitled to his opinion. His comments were addressed specifically to the issue of same-sex marriage.

Why would there be any discussion of tax-free status? CFA is a fast food restaurant. They pay taxes just like any other business.
I started a fun conversation on an FB post by a gay Catholic friend of mine, where they were piling on about the hateful, bigoted, discriminating, Chik-fil-A. I didn’t see what the hubbub was about since the company isn’t discriminating against anyone, as far as I can tell.

Apparently, supporting traditional marriage is “discrimination.” So, logically, all of us faithful Catholics are hateful and bigoted, if we support the Church’s view of marriage and homosexuality.

Actually this could prove to be beneficial…If this Mayor could (highly unlikely) prevent a company from opening in his jurisdiction based on the idea that they “discriminate against a population” (something that would have to be proven…) what is to prevent other mayors from doing the same thing but with an opposing slant? If the precedent is set…then the door is open…

Mostly though this is just political posturing. As indicated in the article, Chick-fil-A has two stores in the area - both outside the city limits…and from the article there seems to be no indication that these stores “discriminate against” anyone who comes in to purchase the product.
The only thing the Mayor is doing by such posturing is to garner some “good press” (in his eyes) and to prevent the possibility of some new jobs coming to his community. So I guess that Boston isn’t suffering from the Economic woes if they can drive away potential businesses…

Peace
James

You’re welcome. 🙂 And good luck on that. I’m personally a St. Jerome kind of guy myself, at least when it comes to being curmudgeonly, but the world certainly needs a lot more people who try to follow the “Little Way”. 😃

He is not doing himself any favours. He is making himself look discriminatory and intolerant, and it will not stand up in court if Chick-A-Fil sues because of him stopping them getting licenses. Chick-A-Fil never said they would not hire or serve homosexuals but that they are against gay marriage. Dan Cathy has the Constitutional right to freedom of speech

Has any pro traditional marriage mayor or governor say they will stop the building of Starbucks in their town, which endorsed gay marriage?

yes, we already know that’s what they think of us.

Very good points! 👍

As Umberto Eco would put it, “he belongs to that class of people who are their opponents’ best allies”. Such people only serve to discredit the “gay rights” movement, and that can’t be a bad thing. 😉

Well, thankfully, the owners of your workplace subscribe to Christian ideals and do not discriminate against or devalue the hard work of the Disney employees, instead choosing to value all of the entertainment that they help to provide the public despite their sexuality, all while maintaining a brave and truthful stance on some of the sinful actions that those employees may or may not choose to indulge in.

We hate the sins, we love the sinners.
👍👍👍👍👍
