I am deeply grieved that so many people have had such bad experiences with the church of Christ. I was born and raised in the church and am still there today.
We are not a cult. We are merely Christians. We are not the “only Christians.” We believe that you must believe the Gospel, repent of your sins, confess that Jesus is Lord, and be baptised to become a Christian. When you become a Christian, you become part of Christ’s church (hence the term). There are many Christians who belong to many different denominations. We want ALL Christians to come together. Jesus prayed for unity, so do we.
We do not have our own Bible. We do not think the pope is the antichrist. We do not hate Catholics. I actually do enjoy “prolonged exposure” to Catholics who know their faith. That is why I joined this forum! We do believe that God loves unconditionally, as evidenced in the story of the prodigal son. I have never heard of someone being “disfellowshipped,” but there is a biblical precedent for expelling an immoral person from the church in 1 Corinthians 5. I cannot speak to specific instances, because each church is governed by a board of elders and I do not know the facts. It is shameful that anyone would be “shunned.” This is not a Christian attitude, and does not represent the church. We certainly do not want to make anyone look stupid.
The history of the church is the history of Christianity. The church of Christ has existed since the day of pentecost. We want to return to the foundation that Jesus laid.
I pray we can come together in Christ’s love. God bless you all!
