It is common practice to physically destroy devices that contain classified data when done using them.

Even devices that contain proprietary information would be physically destroyed if the device cannot be completely wiped and written over with random data.

I think it depends on the family. I know that my great Italian grandmother never learned a word of English. My Italian great grandmother and my Russian grandmother never spoke a word of English to each other. My nepalese mother in law and myself have never spoke a word of English to eachother. There is strong possibility that we’ll be bringing her to the US to live with my husbands siblings and her grandchildren to live out her elderly years. Otherwise she may have to stay in Nepal and live alone, which is not a good option. Shes 70, are we going to stress to much about her learning English? No not at all, shes going to live her elderly years in US with her children, its a silly idea to force an elderly 70 year old woman to learn an entire new language when all she needs and wants is to live amongst her children. This language issue amongst immigrants has been an issue since the dawn of immigration to the US, it has been an issue from even before the immigration of my great grandparents to now. I know for some people it is a key voting issue for this election, but for me its not even a blip.
What amazes me and makes my laugh is that so many of those that insist everyone speak English, don’t speak English very well themselves. They don’t take take time to learn their own native tongue. If they love it so much they should learn the rules of the road. Just my humble opinion.

With all due respect, I rather like Taco Bell. But then, I make no pretense to having a refined palate. I even like Steak 'n Shake chili.
I have Taco Bell a half mi from me and taco stands 6 or 7 mi from me. I like Taco Bell too but the spicy pork tacos at my favorite stand is something I can’t get at Taco Bell. And the stand has roasted in the husk corn on the cob on weekends and comes with your choice of a variety of toppings. Butter, salt, mayo, hot sauce, cayenne pepper… I just get hot sauce and cayenne on mine. They look at me and say is that all you want on it? And personally I like my chili not quite as thick as Steak and Shake’s so I prefer Wendy’s but I’m always certain to get the chili spice packets.

This is true. There are various stages of “deletions.” When one “deletes” a yahoo email, for example, it first goes into a trash folder. Some domains delete emails after a certain time. And then they get moved into some other area. Now with the cloud technology, who knows?

I’d worry more about breaching national security by disclosing the contents of such emails.

How’s Kerry handling the email situation, anyone?

Perhaps Mr. Reid doesn’t know what it means, but I think I do.

If that’s what he said, then it’s disturbing to me, at least. Personally, I would prefer the culture we have. If Mr. Gutierrez is saying we’re going to get forcibly “Mexicanized”, for everything that could mean, then I would just as soon turn it down. Ask a Central American (especially a Mayan or other “Indio”, even one from Mexico) what it’s like to live in a community in which the “La Raza” culture is dominant. I have, and if you’re not a member of “the Race”, it’s not good.
Not a Mr. And we’re not getting forcibly “Mexicanized”. No one is forced at gunpoint to eat at a taco truck.

Of course not. What I meant to say is it seems many of the newer immigrants have no interest in learning to speak English rather they prefer to maintain their language of origin and that is a problem. My husband is a first generation immigrant from Germany. He came here in 1962 at the age of fourteen. He learned to speak the Emglush language, while maintaining his Getman language as well.
If somehow they are able to get by speaking Spanish better, attending Spanish Masses or other church services, shopping at a Latin market, frequenting businesses and offices with Spanish speaking employees, it doesn’t seem to be as much of a problem for them as it is for you.

How very snarky of you! When did I ever say that it was a problem for me if an immigrant chooses to speak his native tongue? All I said is as part of a greater community the United States,it would benefit all concerned to speak English as well.Shall we all just go about our lives being insulated from each other with language barriers?

Sounds like an argument for you to step up and learn Spanish or another language commonly spoken by immigrants in your community.

Spanish is certainly a wonderful second language for anyone in America to learn. That’s not going to change in my lifetime.

My Dutch uncle (he was actually born and raised in Holland) was fluent in seven languages - of course, many Europeans are because all the countries are so close.

We may be the only country in the civilized world that only speaks one language. I wish I would have continued in my Spanish studies when I had the chance. I have many friends who spoke more than one language and I chastised them for not speaking dual languages at home. Their kids could be speaking 3 languages now with little or no effort. Now they say they are sorry. What a gift!

Unfortunately I’m not bilingual. But I am actually amazed at how many of our immigrants are. Recently I was ordering a sub and the young Haitian waiting on me asked in another language what type of bread I wanted? She quickly caught herself and laughed and said “Oh I’m sorry I was speaking French”. I laughed along with her and replied oh no problem. I don’t speak French. But I’m amazed at how many speak multiple languages. It was not a problem for me whatsoever. And I’m sure if she hadn’t spoken English, someone else could have corresponded with me. The sub was good is all that mattered to me.

If they perceive it as a benefit, they will learn the vocabulary necessary.

One Spanish-speaking baseball player told as a joke, that the first English words he learned were “steak” and “more money.” What more does he really need? 🙂

Where they teach English as a second language overseas, they teach business terminology among other things. They really don’t need to be able to read Shakespeare, unless literature is their motivation.

Law? I don’t know. Most Anglophones don’t know English law and never read the fine print.

I didn’t say it was a problem for ME I said it was a problem for immigrants if they fail to assimilate to our culture by not becoming proficient in our predominate language.Do you disagree with this? Are we to be part of the same country but live and function in separate worlds through lack of a common language? Doesn’t seem very practical.

With his immigration tirade, Trump squashed what minute chance he still had in this election. He showed brilliantly his fatal flaw: he values the immediate emotional gratification of telling an audience what they want to hear rather than actually building electoral support. I don’t think he even cares about being president, he just wants to bask in chants and applause at his rallies. I’m glad he’s having fun. The fun will end on Election Day.
I agree with what you say here. But I also think the fun will end on Election Day for both Trump and Clinton, as well as the American people.
