I would like to see the various other places. At that moment in time, yes. But Jesus clearly passes that authority on in John and in various other places.
now if a man today claimed to be God we would say he is blaspheming there is only one God. In John, Jesus makes the claim to be God by forgiving the mans sins, the Pharisees recognize this, because only God can forgive sins, Jesus does not correct them and say no men also have authority to forgive sins, he proves that he is God by healing the man thus proving that his sins had been forgiven and that he is not blaspheming.
so the Pharisees were wrong about Jesus blaspheming, but nowhere does it say that they were wrong about God being the only one who can forgive sins.
The crowd could have been doesn’t prove anything the crowd could have been wrong. The crowd could have been unknowingly prophetic. Notice, Matthew doesn’t correct the crowd’s opinion as we normally see when they are wrong.
can you give me an example of Matthew normally correcting the crowd’s opinion?
I don’t think anyone, but God, can forgive sins.Of course you can. It’s therapeutic, but it’s not Sacramental. Do you think my brothers have the authority to not forgive my sins, as the Apostles did?
actually no I don’t see your point, it says to confess to each other so you can be healed, it does not say confess to a Priest.See my point above. No “normal believer” has the authority to hold my sins in remittance.
