To addictedkoala: Why this is quite good. I rather enjoyed this artist. Thank you for such an astute recommendation!

I first started questioning my atheism when I heard Stacie Orrico’s song 'Theres Gotta Be More To Life." And it really left a big impact on me and gave me a better understanding of what religion means.

Sing Along (Catholic Love Song) is totally cute!
wow, i didn’t expect that… i know him! i staffed a retreat with him a few years ago 🙂 he’s a nice guy, and very musically talented! you’re right, the Catholic love song is adorable 😃 i wanna see the lyrics haha.

i looked through all 20 pages of this thread and saw that no one mentioned Kelly Pease! she’s probably not very well-known, but i’ve seen her at Steubenville South twice. she’s a lovely young Catholic singer/songwriter with a beautiful voice 🙂 kellypease.com/

also heard a guy named Grae at Steubenville South once, he is awesome! unfortunately, his website isn’t updated, but you can still buy his album from cdbaby: cdbaby.com/cd/graemusic1

Sue Peters has an album called Beautiful Brokenness, which is my favorite of all the contemporary Catholic music I have heard (admittedly I have not heard a whole lot). I learned about it from the web site of Rocking Romans, which (though it has a rather silly name) is a project to highlight the best Catholic music being made. They have released “best-of” albums for three or four years now and you can listen to samples of all their artists on their web site: rockingromans.com/

I really miss the contemporary choir at my parish. I do not like chant at all. When it is in Latin, I have no idea what they are singing, and when it is in English, it just sounds bad. Either way, it is “un-sing-able” for the congregation.

I really miss the schola at my parish. I do not like contemporary “liturgical” music at all. When it’s contemporary, I have little idea if what they are singing is orthodox, and when it is in Latin, it just sounds transcendent. Either way, the contemporary is “un-sing-able” for my sensibilities.

u c wat i did thar?

Yep. We have 5 Masses each weekend. Sat 5:00 pm - organ/cantor; Sun 7:30 quiet - no singing; Sun: 9:00 - contemporary choir or children’s choir; Sun 10:30 - adult choir/handbells and Sun 12:00 organ/cantor. There was enough variety to appeal to a wide range of musical preferences. Our music department has suffered due to change of staff & budget cuts. Handbells & contemporary choir are both gone. Now, I prefer the quiet Mass where I don’t have to deal with chant. Or I go to the neighboring parish where they still have a contemporary choir.

As a huge lover of music I am so glad to see this thread and have been listening to many of the recommendations. Some of them are wonderful! I’m currently rather enamoured with sacred aria’s - mostly finding videos on youtube to listen to. Here are some of my favourites so far…

Andrea Bocelli - Ave Maria - youtube.com/watch?v=KBsVBivZKyc
Katherine Jenkins - Ave Maria (again) - youtube.com/watch?v=atcfGGsDrd4 (so beautiful!)
The Priests - Pie Jesu - youtube.com/watch?v=mt8TcWeL3A0 (lovely)

I’m currently looking for more, if anyone could suggest any singers?

I highly recommend my favorite CCM artist - Audrey Assad.
There’s no secret, that she’s Catholic convert. She combines angelic vocals, crisp, clean music and gorgeous poetry into each song. One can just feel the sincerity in her music. For me Audrey is a master of the craft of storytelling 🙂 Her lyrics have so much meaning in them, once you understand what she is saying, you are hooked.

You can find her for example on Youtube. She has albo Facebook fanpage 🙂
I’m going to buy both of her wonderful albums - “The House You’re building” and “Heart”.
My most beloved songs by her are: “New Song”, “For love of You”, “Lament”, “O my soul”, “Breaking You” and many, many more.

If You’ve never heard about Sarah Kroger, You should check her music out 🙂 She isn’t very popular, but she’s certainly great! “Your Time” and “In the silence” are pretty good songs. Sarah is also Catholic speaker - from time to time.

And Jackie Francois - she’s speaker too (she gives a talks about Theology of the body), worship leader and songwriter.
Or Ike Ndolo, Erin Gauvin…? 🙂
