I get it, but one could just as easily entreaty God to ask for His help in faith for all of us on health-related matters. I don’t believe telling those in great financial need to “turn it over to God” to be any more sage than turning around and telling our leaders back “turn your concerns over the spread of this illness over to God.” Why do we self-inflict wounds and then tell those injured to “turn it over to God” rather than simply turn the original problem over to Him?

And none of these posts address anything concrete other than platitudes, no offense. The “we will get through this together” mantra is easy when for most of us, the impact is nil. I doubt the the healthcare workers who were forced to work in ultra-dangerous positions for unreasonably long hours took comfort in hearing “we are in this together.” Until every person has an equal stake in something and risks paying an equal price, the words are just uttered to make those who bear no risk feel good and give them cover when they duck and stay protected in their own bubble. We all share a risk of COVID.

The remedy we have devised is not shared by all. It is borne by the lives of those we have chosen to be sacrificed for the greater good. So we aren’t all in this together, nor are we all on the same team. Words say one thing, but our actions have said “bug off; you are on your own, and your life matters less than mine.” It would be nice if people were at least honest enough to admit that, rather than insulting everyone’s intelligence and pretending in an effort to make themselves feel better about their own selfishness.

The problem is people don’t like being lied to. If the intent was to flatten the curve, and we accomplish that, people have a right to expect our leaders will keep their word. Once they begin to move the goalposts, the public will then decide they cannot be trusted. If we are all going to throw in together in a mass commitment, that only works if we believe what we are being told. Once the public feels they are being lied to, they are going to bust out.

CDC reporting is always lagging behind. John Hopkins is the most reliable since they are aggressively collecting data. CDC lags also on abortion data also, that is why we rely on the Guttmacher Institute, but it is always 2 years in arrears on reporting.

The global mortality rate is lower. Who knows what the true numbers are though.
Wrong again. The Global Mortality rate is at 7.02%. You mistook the Swine Flu Mortality Rate of 2009 for the Covid-19 Global Mortality rate:

A fact, but not a point.

Me neither. I haven’t eaten in a restaurant in more than six weeks. I also have not had breakfast yet.

A fact, but not a point.
Oh on the contrary, read what you wrote. You speculated about the Church and made an assumption as if it was fact.
Me neither.
In my honest opinion, by the Church’s action to not hold Mass is a slap in the face to Jesus and his memorium “DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME” .
Jesus did not say “DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME EXCEPT IN CASE OF A PANDEMIC”
in plain terms: What Would Jesus Do as the protestants ask.
I haven’t eaten in a restaurant in more than six weeks.
Is that a hardship for you?
I also have not had breakfast yet.
Man does not live by bread alone but by the every word of God… 😄

My point is if the notion that we have to do anything and everything disregarding all consequences if there is even a chance to save a single life somewhere, then we need to never end this lockdown and further steps are also warranted. But that isn’t a teaching of the Church, nor is the Church promoting permanent lockdown if it can save even one life.

Are you trying to say 75% are working?
But what if your small business is not. Isn’t that 100%?

So what percentage of Americans are expendable to you. Just give me a percentage, rather than was people’s time with non-answers playing word games.

Would you say 10%, 20%, or something higher?

Hollow words, and not true at all. Why lie on a Catholic website? At least be honest.

You think people are expendable?
Provide names. On a Catholic website.
Because they have names.

There is real suffering and distress by those who are struggling to make ends meet, feed their families keep a roof over their heads. Eventually all those bills will need to be paid,it’s a real catch 22.
Agreed. Only shows the incompetence of the President in dealing with both science and economics.

There is real suffering in kids who won’t see their dads and mom’s again. There is tragedy going on all around. My cousin has it. His kids came back from Southern Methodist, and he coughed for a week before he saw a doctor. Made them meals. It is all around us
