I get it, but one could just as easily entreaty God to ask for His help in faith for all of us on health-related matters. I don’t believe telling those in great financial need to “turn it over to God” to be any more sage than turning around and telling our leaders back “turn your concerns over the spread of this illness over to God.” Why do we self-inflict wounds and then tell those injured to “turn it over to God” rather than simply turn the original problem over to Him?
And none of these posts address anything concrete other than platitudes, no offense. The “we will get through this together” mantra is easy when for most of us, the impact is nil. I doubt the the healthcare workers who were forced to work in ultra-dangerous positions for unreasonably long hours took comfort in hearing “we are in this together.” Until every person has an equal stake in something and risks paying an equal price, the words are just uttered to make those who bear no risk feel good and give them cover when they duck and stay protected in their own bubble. We all share a risk of COVID.
The remedy we have devised is not shared by all. It is borne by the lives of those we have chosen to be sacrificed for the greater good. So we aren’t all in this together, nor are we all on the same team. Words say one thing, but our actions have said “bug off; you are on your own, and your life matters less than mine.” It would be nice if people were at least honest enough to admit that, rather than insulting everyone’s intelligence and pretending in an effort to make themselves feel better about their own selfishness.
