The thing is I completely disagree with the Democratic platform here in the US both in spirit, and in what they tactically propose to implement.

So even removing abortion from the table (which you cannot actually do if that matters to you), the Democrats lose probably 9 out of 10 issues for me (or they both lose equally on some). Heck, just getting two USSC justices I like made this first four years well worth it to me. Others value other things, and vote accordingly.

Like I said, the solution is simple. Like you said, we simply need to remove the abortion (and pro-gay marriage, emphasis on trasngender rights, etc etc) issues. If the US Dems wanted to take it off the table, they’d simply abandon their support of it. You want to put Catholics and even some evangelicals in a quandary? Do that and you will. But they cannot, and they will not. Satan loves seeing us promote certain forms of hedonism, and those are some prominent examples right there.

I personally think certain aspects of our society (rather, a lot) are diabolical, and those promoting those things are doing the work of Satan. Some knowingly, some in ignorance. But if you don’t root out those things, simply saying “we need to heal and agree to disagree” is naive and never going to happen. That’s like saying someone possessed by a demon just has “a different perspective than yours.”

Lastly, another reason I do not see healing is because of how our continued struggle in today’s society is manifested in scripture: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” This isn’t just an “agree to disagree” thing any longer.

So you claim.
That is a simple matter of fact.
Intonation, or rhetocial flow would provide some basis of rinterpreation, but not the syntax.

But that is all moot, since Trump has said it was sarcasm.
Feel free to verify:
Thanks for the link.

I note that there was a discussion by Bill Bryan, who leads the Science and Technology Directorate at the U.S. Department of Homeland , “disinfectants” - bleach and isopropanol - among other things, before the president began speaking. Trump said that he asked a question about UV light,. Then, after a comment on that from Bryan, he turned to disinfectants. It seems a stretch that he was talking about the disinfecting power of light, particular when he talked of the same time frame for action that Bryan has when talking about bleach and isopropanol, which is much shorter than Bryan had spoken fo for light.

I think that the WH transcript clarifies that Trump was not asking a question, and when talking of disinfectants, he was talking about things like bleach. The question that remains is where did the other transcripts shown here come from? Was that a FAKE from FOX?

The division between those who think you should drink bleach and those that think you shouldn’t?

I can pick up a Dickens novel and read a description of a world that makes me a Democrat by disgust. I think it folly to think you can change men’s hearts selectively via a handful of issues culled from an Ocean of secularism you fully participate in… That is a tribal myth legend that placates ego and conscience. The need to feel in control of one’s own grant of salvation.
I imagine this sounds alien. That is a tragedy from the standpoint of the Sermon on the Mount.
We buy into a system of values as Citizens that represents full participation in secularism, consumerism, relativism. Conservatives ( who have not read David Bentley Hart’s recent essays) do not appreciate the reasoned reality that Capitalism is interchangable with secularism, materialism and RELATIVISM.
(Democrats live in the same ocean)
If you live in an ocean you contribute to that oceans existence. It is hypocritical to point out the wetness of your participation.
Think about it. You spend your days with zeal plumbing the secular depth of that ocean and convince yourself you are us not them via a few select issues.
Those issues exist and thrive because of what you choose to contribute to with zeal. The feeling of righteousness is a construct to protect the ego. To protect the tribe via mutual assurance benefits.
The Ocean must change. If it does values will follow.

It’s amazing to me that from a weird, entirely incoherent statement, Trump supporters purport to know exactly what he was thinking.
It’s amazing to me that seemingly intelligent people would see it any other way. I get it from the handful of posters on this subforum who are absolutely rabid with their hatred of Trump, but for others who actually believe he told the country to inject disinfectant to cure themselves of Covid 19 have left all common sense at the door.

I have been thinking the same thing ever since his famous statement about shooting someone on 5th and they will still vote for me.

That is exactly your problem my friend, you spend way too much time and energy being “offended” or “triggered” by what you believe President Trump says and does. Doesn’t it just wear you down obsessing over this every single day? Just like the comment above, you bring that one up so often it is as though you can’t move past it.

If I were you I would spend some time with your priest going over these issues, even if you have to do it by phone for now.

It is amazing that the President of the US actually said, out loud, in public, what he actually said.
I cannot believe people are trying to defend this nonsense.

If it had been Hillary Clinton, or Joe Biden, or Barack Obama that actually made those comments, would you be defending this? I hope not.

He said to research the injection of disinfectant not to inject disinfectant and I think most of us here, pro- or not pro-Trump have sufficient reading and comprehension skills to say what he said exactly. Those were his words. You claim he meant looking for something that works similar. Another Trump supporter @Cathoholic started by saying he probably meant using antibiotics to stating “he was almost certainly trying to talk about antibiotics”. Another @Jeanne_S says he was referring to naturopathic means of disinfecting like colonics.

The fact of the matter is that none of you have a clue what he meant because what he said was nonsense. You’re just trying to make excuses for your man instead of admitting that he wasn’t speaking “ex cathedra” and made a very troubling mistake. It would be more intellectually honest if you admitted he made a mistake and ascribed it to him being very tired from having to manage the pandemic crisis. I’ve babbled myself when very tired. It’s very human.

At least that would be a credible, and believable, response. Instead, you’re all coming across as… well I won’t say what I think, but it is at the very least not much more coherent than what the President said.

Yes. It causes caustic burns as it travels through the digestive system.

Thankfully the odor of bleach is such that it naturally prevents mistakes. It’s too overwhelming a scent. My son has had his asthma triggered by the scent of bleach. I once had a terrible respiratory response after cleaning the bathroom with bleach products. I felt like a really bad cold.

How about this? The incessant critiquing of Trump even when it’s valid gets a knee jerk reaction from those of us who overall value and appreciate his success’ the past four years, which also have been criticized and denied by those more interested in fomenting anger and dissent then ever admitting the good he’s done. It’s beyond tedious and just plain obnoxious. So there ya go!

^ This.
If Clinton or Bernie Sanders made these statements, many of the people trying to make excuses would be saying the exact opposite of what they are saying now. They would rightly be claiming that it was a gaffe of the highest order.

But Trump has appointed Judges more likely to rule against Roe v Wade…so he can say or do whatever he wants and get a pass, no matter what kind of absurd mental gymnastics are required.

bleach funes can make you very sick.

In 1915, the first large scale use of posion gas in WWI was the use of chlorine gas.

So why don’t you just all admit, he made a mistake. To some a very troubling mistake, and assign it to him being very tired because of dealing with the crisis?

That you can’t, and insist on trying to say you know what he meant, is almost as troubling as what he said.

You’d disarm the controversy in a flash by saying “you know what, what he said was weird; perhaps he’s very tired from dealing with the crisis and should take a couple of days off to recharge his batteries”.

Obviously many of you do NOT have sufficient reading and comprehension skills to understand what he was saying. But now it isn’t even about what Trump said, it is about you being right.

So here you all go. I’m out…go ahead running around screaming the sky is falling, just like all of you do anytime you believe Trump to be guilty of anything. It’s actually quite comical anymore.

I’m done and will be muting this thread.

I said it was a stupid comment yesterday .
I never said anything about him m needing to recharge, however it probably is true
