Sorry, buddy, no deal.I’ll say I am if you agree to not use those emoticons again.
all right, figured that.
There’s one point I have to take issue with you on, and that’s New York. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m suggesting that Trump will run third party (I think anyone who does believe that should make me an offer on a very nice river-spanning property that I’ve decided I don’t really need anymore). I’m just saying, NY ain’t voting Republican – okay, I know it happened in 1984, but look at the map that year:I think a lot of people underestimate Ted Cruz. He has come this far, which is further than Rubio or Kasich have. He is relatively young and has a long political career ahead of him. It is not unreasonable to think he will expand the skills he has in a presidential campaign, in particular communicating with moderates and finding common ground. If he doesn’t learn to do this, I agree he is done. But he is extremely intelligent and an effective politician. The backstabbing is Politician 101; politics is a rough and tumble sport. I don’t think that Cruz plays any dirtier than Clinton, Trump or most of the Presidents we have had in history.
If he can get the nomination, that will also confirm my sense that he has the skills to be president - let’s face it, it will involve a lot of negotiation, compromise…and deal making. Also, with Rubio as VP or at least campaigning (Florida) + Kasich (Ohio) + something from Trump hopefully (New York), I think the map looks completely doable for Cruz. Don’t underestimate the ever growing dissatisfied moderate center in both parties - Cruz is smart enough not to neglect these voters. I am a moderate and I like Cruz. Moderates voted for Cruz in Wisconsin and he has strong appeal all over the West. I think there is a lot of room to move here. Hillary has to stay left enough to keep Bernie voters. And there is her baggage on top of that, plus the 8 years of Obama to defend. Do people want that?
We forgive Clinton and Trump their past dirt; why not forgive Cruz his (gov’t shutdowns)? Why not assume he is evolving too? He is a lot smarter than either Clinton or Trump, or Bernie for that matter.
Cruz is in reality very competitive and I think could actually be a decent president - he is a better choice than Hillary, Bernie or Trump. The more of a real threat he becomes, we can expect ever fiercer push back from the media and the Democrats. But, again, another plus with Cruz, he is in his element here as well. He will stand his ground and is not going to start sending out vicious personal tweets to everyone.
Yeah, just trying to be positive here. New York is as blue as the sea. But if Florida and Ohio are possibly just possiby in play, maybe one or two other states, we’ve got it. And just think, with Rubio and Kasich campaigning. There’s one point I have to issue with you on, and that’s New York. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m suggesting that Trump will run third party (I think anyone who does believe that should make me an offer on a very nice river-spanning property that I’ve decided I don’t really need anymore). I’m just saying, NY ain’t voting Republican – okay, I know it happened in 1984, but look at the map that year:
(Mondale got Minnesota and D.C., though the latter doesn’t show up on the map.)
theguardian.com/us-news/2016/apr/07/ted-cruz-stop-trump-movement-immigration-abortion-viewsTrump has gained substantial media coverage over his controversial proposals to ban Muslim immigrants from coming to the US and shut down mosques in America and for suggesting he was open to a federal registry of Muslim Americans.
After Wisconsin, Cruz Looks to Widen His Appeal
On the campaign trail this week, Cruz’s rhetoric was notably softened from the fire and brimstone that marked his early campaign appearances; in particular, his stump speech has shed the overtly religious tone that first endeared Cruz to evangelical voters.
“This next election is going to come down to three issues,” Cruz said Monday at a rally in Waukesha, Wis. “Jobs, freedom and security.”
The transition by Cruz is deliberate, as he now seeks to advance his argument beyond a base of values voters and staunch conservatives to a broader audience in the GOP. That shifted focus shone through Tuesday, as Cruz invoked “unity” and turned his eye toward the general election: “Let me just say, Hillary, get ready. Here we come.”
“It’s important that we start talking about issues that bring all Republicans together,” said one Cruz campaign source. “We’re at a point in the campaign when expanding the brand is kind of the next step.”
The refined messaging tack for Cruz and his campaign represents a stark departure from his successful values-centric approach in Iowa and throughout the first half of the GOP primary.
Wow, the pivot is already in full swing. I did not realize this. I have no illusions that this will fly with our already entrenched Trump and hard left Dem buddies, but my larger point is that this is a good thing for the general electorate, the undecided folks. And this goes to my point of Cruz being smart on when and what needs to be done. (along these lines I have not seen any nasty tweets yet out of the Cruz camp - say, maybe about Kasich’s wife)
Bill Blasio? Uh…Bill Blasio:
youtube.com/watch?v=K-mxytFrYGs
“Ted Cruz insulted the people of NY when it was politically convenient… he was trying to somehow cast negative aspersion on trump 'cause he came from NY…now he’ll pay the price for it…”
Blasio doesn’t even like trump, just so you know.Bill Blasio? Uh…
Uh…and btw New York is Trump’s home state. He is definitely in his element with Blasio - I give you that on a silver platter.
Is it really Cruz who is interested in registering Muslims? From today’s Guardian:
theguardian.com/us-news/2016/apr/07/ted-cruz-stop-trump-movement-immigration-abortion-views
Maybe we should have a Federal Religion Registry where all Americans have to register their religion or if they are an atheist. There are actually countries that put their citizens’ religion on their passports or other IDs. Is this the kind of thing Cruz would want or is he only interested in registering Muslims?
The article does explain that apparent interchangeability between the two that just happened here.…Even if Cruz is able to assuage the remaining concerns among those Republicans who see him as indistinguishable from Trump, Democrats are already showing themselves as eager to paint the two candidates as one and the same.
And trump has no interest in registering muslims. That was a media-whipped frenzy from a while ago.Is it really Cruz who is interested in registering Muslims?
According to your article and quote, that is Trump’s interest.
Cruz is interested in vigilance, again, according to your article.

i don’t care about the distinctions of moderates vs conservatives, do care about ideological, which he certainly is: serving ideas rather than people.Well, I’m a moderate Republican, but I figure we cannot expect to always have a moderate nominee – just lik right wingers can’t expect to always have a right wing nominee.
I have not seen this to be the case. Cruz is the most principled of any of the candidates by far.cruz is just another politician who will say and do anything to get elected, rather than do what he actually says.
It is Fiorina who first said that Cruz is just another politician who will say and do anything to get elected.queenofheartscv:

That’ WHY he told the people of Iowa he would not support corn subsidies.
This is NOT . . . “saying and doing anything to get elected”.
Oh, and I forgot cruz conveniently forgetting to disclose million dollar loans from major banks on his federal forms. It is Fiorina who first said that Cruz is just another politician who will say and do anything to get elected.
He has ridden on the coattail of trump for the most part of the campaign, eyeing how the public receives trump’s positions and then adopting those positions for his own; hence he’s going to build a wall, he’s going to out-trump trump on immigration, he favors fair trade not free trade. But in the senate he pushed for increasing immigration hundreds fold, he pushed for amnesty, he supported the TPP bill. Now his positions are all different because, well, the public wants something different.
What he did to Carson in Iowa was inexcusable. The Iowa voter violation mailer was inexcusable.
The times he’s put up ads lying about trump’s positions are numerous. He even was bold enough to say trump was against the 2nd amendment.
The superpac ad of melania very possibly could have been ordered by himself. Or at least I don’t believe for a second he had no idea.
He did illegally coordinate with his super pac because the super pac paid for and hosted one of his events in wisconsin, the link for which I had posted earlier.
When the sex scandal broke, cruz instantly blamed trump for the whole thing–how very slimy and wicked for him to say trump was behind the magazine story while all the evidence pointed to the Rubio camp, and never mind the magazine has had a history of doing such stories about presidential candidates.
I will never ever trust Cruz. It’s frightening when someone can claim to be such a holy christian, a leader for faithful christians, a leader for values, and then pull tricks as he has. Trump insults people, yes, but he doesn’t hide behind glamorous values and stab people behind their backs. A hypocrite is much more frightening than a vulgarian.
twitter.com/jeffroe/status/718422143319420928Q1 finance numbers for Cruz for President = 32 Million dollars! By far a new record! 612,000 donations at an average of $60 each. Thank you!
