Notice that he failed to mention what kind of quality. Good or bad.

Well, boomerangs are always popular toys! (And very frustrating!)

But apart from that, no. Our local TV and film industries produce a reasonable amount of local content (news, comedy, drama, kids), but not enough to fill the hours and hours that kids watch. From the early days of TV those hours been filled with reruns from the US of all the shows that have been listed here (Lassie, Rifleman, Wyatt Earp, etc…). In my home, the number one was Robin Hood. We even had Wagon Train! 🙂 I’d completely forgotten it till it @Katy mentioned it.

Perhaps the best remembered AustralianTV series has been Skippy, but it wasn’t the only one.

The effect is cultural imperialism but the cause is simple economics. And, to give credit where it’s due, the US produces good shows. No one ever said that the rest of the world has to import US movies and TV - the rest of the world just doesn’t try hard enough. No one forced me to sit dutifully in front of Robin Hood every afternoon.

Glad, also, that we’ve discovered the origin of the “Aussie” leather outback hat - Crocodile Dundee! Good one, Gov! 😃
Yes, and there was also Wagon Train, and no doubt others. We had more to watch on 4 channels than we do now on hundreds.
Indeed.

I was going to post that song here a while back. My childhood buddy’s dad had a bunch of old novelty records, and that was one of them. I guess there were two versions of the song, one with a derogatory term for aborigines.

So bored. What happened to CAF? I feel like I’m running into the same posters and questions…

So, I’m posting random stuff to facilitate conversation throughout the CAF cosmos! I shall terraform the Forum and make it inhabitable once more!

Easter happened to me along with a ten page research paper draft due on Thursday that I haven’t started writing. Thankfully I have the research done.

But you shall have to carry on without me. You can do it!!!

I remember writing papers. I preferred APA format.

My College Writing II Professor was a former editor. I was the only student to get an A in her class 🤓

I’m in History so I have to use Turabian. It’s not too hard once you get used to it.

At least none of you have to read this book my niece is reading for her college class 😠

So your Skippy was like our Flipper, only a kangaroo not a dolphin. I see…

The sign off I remember was the national anthem and something that looked like a big target in the middle with 4 smaller targets in each corner.

The handy thing now is that when you find research to use the intext citation and works cited citations are both given in whatever format so you can just copy and paste.
You youngsters have no idea what we went through, and in Chicago style. 😡👵🍺😜

My son photographed this mean-looking hombre pretending to be a cowboy 22 years ago when we were at the Grand Canyon. I wonder whatever became of that mysterious stranger 🤔

My Boomerang Won’t Come Back - Charlie Drake - 1962
😠 If I get that song stuck in my head because of you… why I oughta… 👵🚬

My son seems to be going through some rough times – no idea what’s going on, because not only is he reticent, now he prides himself on his reticence.

And he’s 14, and so everything is the end-all-and-be-all-of-all-things-in-existence. I love him, but sometimes I just wanna knock some sense into his sweet and beautiful head.

I just think I’ll never be able to sleep again with all this worry.

I believe you’re thinking of THIS:

That pattern was designed so the engineers could focus their cameras and displays to give you the best picture possible.

Believe it or not, I still have one of those calibration pictures. There’s a lot of info available in that picture.
