I have heard some reasons for Newt’s sudden rise and seeming forgiveness of his piles of baggage: What many want more than anything in a candidate is someone who will take it to Obama. Remember the flurry of support for Donald Trump? We have the Donald’s pugnaciousness with a serious candidate in Newt. There is so much pent up anger that many voters would vote for the devil himself if they thought he’d pound Obama…rhetorically of course!
Asked why support of Newt and the answers are not that “he balanced the budget” (decades ago) or “he won the House for the Republicans” or “I like his position on XYZ”
Rather it’s “I can’t wait to see him debate Obama.” “He doesn’t mind talking tough about Obama.” “He calls out the liberal media for what it is.”
Ironically the Tea Party, the conservative side of the party which espouses family values is willing to overlook the affairs, the broken marriages, the side by side with Nancy Pelosi, the gaffs about when life begins. They say well he’s changed and has asked for forgiveness.
Even more ironic is that the same people willing to believe Newt changed his mind about global warming, faithfulness to one’s spouse, life issues etc are slamming Romney as a flip flopper, as not trustworthy, as a fake.
Do ya’ll see the hypocrisy? Good grief.
That being said I like Newt, admire his intelligence and guts, and would vote for him in a heartbeat. But I think he’s not that electable in an open election. I hope we dont’ make the same mistake as last time in the primaries getting a bunch of unelectable candidates like Sharron Angle or Christine O’Donnell. I still like Bill Buckley’s standard of the most conservative who can win!
