So, in other words, Ann Romney was smart and made sure that the average American would understand her. Michele Obama on the other hand wanted to make sure her phrases were complicated enough that the average American wouldn’t pick up on how messed up her husband’s policies are? 😛
IOW the average American probably wouldn’t understand language higher than a 5th-grade level. Is that what you mean? You may be right in that case. Who says the Romneys can’t communicate with the average American?

Joking aside, I honestly didn’t notice much difference with regard to word choice between the speeches of Ann Romney and Michelle Obama. Both were clear and simple enough, as well as effective.

Those were my thoughts, as well.

When you are writing your speech, remember that it will be heard, not read. Use clear, simple, easy-to-understand language that your audience will be able to follow
Speech writing 101 👍

That’s a pretty sad commentary…but since the RNC was outdrawn by a show called “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” it’s probably true.

I think both parties probably should put a little more energy and money into education.

Perhaps. I don’t know that it tells us too much. A) What are the demographics of the Twitter users? B) Were the tweets positive or negative? For example, if Republicans use Twitter less, than it would explain the lower numbers.

Just comparing tweets/minute is pretty meaningless. 🤷
My life isn’t interesting enough to tweet. 😦

I’m on the computer.

I’m making a sandwich.

I’m reading a book.

I cleaned the cat box. . . .

I used the restroom. . . . .

Another good article…
lifehack.org/articles/communication/be-heard-speak-plainly.html
The same holds true for all kinds of writing and speaking – for communication in general. If it’s important at all, it deserves to be expressed clearly and plainly, so that anyone can understand it.** The language that academics use and students love to imitate is not meant to communicate ideas, it’s meant to hide** them, to act as a test to see who belongs and who doesn’t. The same is true of the gibberish that many business people write and speak, leveraging their synergistic solution platforms in order to maximize the extraction of secondary revenues in the blah blah blah.

God bless your Catholic Sister Simone. I just saw her deliver what was in my view a fantastic speech in which she explained why as a Catholic nun she believes the Romney-Ryan budget is immoral and made a strong defense for healthcare as a pro life issue. She gives me some interest in Catholicism. Sister was cheered throughout her speech and received a standing ovation by the Democrats.

Nope. You are completely missing the point. It isn’t a matter of tweeting, texting, etc. The principle of speaking plainly is timeless.

Here is an expanded list for the ratings last night:

In the 10pm hour, NBC led the way followed by MSNBC, which drew a combined 9.1 million viewers. MSNBC was the only network to grow vs. 2008, with NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and FNC down.
  • 10pm, Sept. 4, 2012. Night one of the DNC:
NBC: 5,021,551 viewers (1,929,345 in A25-54)
MSNBC: 4,106,622 viewers (1,431,929 in A25-54)
CNN: 3,887,789 viewers (1,367,998 in A25-54)
ABC: 3,236,553 viewers (1,142,927 in A25-54)
CBS: 3,268,520 viewers (1,056,844 in A25-54)
FNC: 2,397,710 viewers (550,149 in 25-54)

22 million watched the 10pm hour on the commercial broadcast and cable networks last night. In comparison, night one of the RNC a week ago was watched by 20.5 million, mostly on Fox News Channel, which averaged 5.15 million viewers in primetime.
  • 10pm, Aug. 28, 2012. Night one of the RNC:
FNC: 6,878,804 viewers (1,679,763 in 25-54)
NBC: 4,770,050 viewers (1,725,282 in 25-54)
CBS: 3,118,927 viewers (938,237 in 25-54)
ABC: 2,862,656 viewers (920,346 in 25-54)
CNN: 1,473,885 viewers (413,467 in 25-54
MSNBC: 1,468,348 viewers (411,738 in 25-54)
On night one of the 2008 DNC, CNN drew the most viewers on cable news, and also beat ABC and CBS in the 10pm hour. In 2008, the cable networks saw triple digit viewer growth and double digit A25-54 growth from night one of the 2004 DNC.

***** MSNBC last won primetime Sept. 7, 2011 when the network aired a GOP primary debate from the Reagan Library. This is the first political convention night and first head-to-head programming win for the network since it launched in July, 1995.

LOL at the DNC. Remove God from platform. Disinvite (initially) Cardinal Dolan. Give speaking role to random renegade sister who isn’t taken seriously within the religion.

Great job planning this, guys.

I’m sure many members of the Church will argue, however, that it’s not a choice between social-justice issues, such as caring for the poor and sick, and issues involving abortion and euthanasia. A faithful Catholic must be observant of all the Church’s teachings.

Dazed and confused:D

They are putting partisanship over the unborn

DNC rejected a bid by pro life democrats to include them in platform

Democrats for Life has betrayed the pro life movement previously
There is no room in the Democrat party for those who are pro-life. Just as there is no room in the platform for God. They are the party of secularism. Government = god. Christians, Jews, Muslims, take note.

PS I along with many other Pro-Life Dems.
You are quite right Meltzerboy. Peace Carlan,
