I’m not an economist and questions of tax rates can get pretty complex. Many of the wealthy finagle their taxes in shelters and such to weasel out of paying what they should. The Govt. should certainly seek to end policies to halt this behavior.
Who do you think put these loopholes in place? Any “tax shelters” that are there were put there by the Congress and who elects those people? We do. You are putting the blame in the wrong place.

Ten Ways Catholic Voters Will Be Misled in 2012
By Deal W. Hudson & Matt Smith
  1. In spite of the new “Introduction” to “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,” the bishops’ document will be cherry-picked and repackaged into sound bites to justify voting for a candidate who supports abortion and same-sex marriage.
  2. Pro-life Catholics will be labeled as “single issue voters” who don’t care about the larger social teaching of the Church, especially concern for the poor and vulnerable.
  3. The budget passed by the House of Representatives, led by Rep. Paul Ryan (R, WI-01), a Catholic, will be relentlessly attacked as not caring about the poor because it proposed cuts and spending freezes to reduce the growing U.S. deficit that is hurting the economy.
  4. “Progressive” Catholic groups will produce polling that supposedly shows Catholics disagree with Church teaching on the sanctity of life and marriage, implying those who agree are in the minority and “behind the times.”
  5. Catholic politicians and leaders who support abortion and same-sex marriage will not be termed “dissenters” or “liberals” but “progressives” in order to make them sound more attractive to independent voters.
  6. Catholic voters will be told the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obama-care) did not contain federal funding for abortion.
  7. Catholic voters will be told the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obama-care) does not pose a threat to religious liberty, for example, the conscience of a Catholic health care worker.
  8. Anyone supporting state collective bargaining reforms with public-sector unions, such as Wisconsin, is ignoring the importance of worker’s rights in Catholic social teaching.
  9. Those Catholics who opposed President Bush and Senator McCain over Operation Iraqi Freedom will not make the same argument against Obama who increased the U.S. military in Afghanistan and the use of drone aircraft to perform executions.
  10. The issue of immigration will be elevated to a level of importance equal to abortion and marriage with the only acceptable ‘Catholic’ position being support for specific pieces of legislation such as the ‘DREAM Act’ (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors).
I have seen many of these things said by Catholic democrats

You, Harvard and I all agree on the point of closing “loopholes”. I favor a flatter rate with less exemptions.
But surely most of us agree that NO ONE, regardless of income, should pay 40% of their income to just the federal government? When you add state, local, sales, and real estate tax, most people would be forced to “give” over more than 50% of their income.
And you in your circumstance wish to vote for one who stashes money in Switzerland to cut paying in his own country?

Eva Longoria, described by Piers Morgan as pro choice and Catholic says republicans want smaller goverment but want to be in your bedroom regarding abortion

youtube.com/watch?v=RyLufrEIN00

What has killing a baby got to do with your bedroom?

Does she know the first commandemnt, thou shall not commit murder

Archbishop Robert J. Carlson says
Since the first century, the Church has addressed the moral evil of abortion and the killing of a defenseless baby in the womb. People who are casual about the sin of abortion and who choose to view it as a political issue rather than the serious moral issue that it is are guilty of violating the Fifth Commandment. You cannot be “pro-choice” (pro-abortion) and remain a Catholic in good standing. That’s why the Church asks those who maintain this position not to receive holy Communion. We are not being mean or judgmental, we are simply acknowledging the fact that such a stance is objectively and seriously sinful and is radically inconsistent with the Christian way of life

That seems punitive and confiscatory to me.
Oops! Sorry Scipio, Peace, Carlan

Huh? This was your question - Why do the Republicans lack the ethnic diversity of the Democrates?

The GOP is 63% non hispanic white
the Dems are 53% non hispanic white
More like 89% to 65% if you add up conservative & not conservative in each party.

with higher % black, hispanic and other race.

Now, show me exactly how he did it. Just facts please.
Don’t hold your breath for them.

Romney disclosed all of his Swiss accounts to the IRS. If he hadn’t, it would have been all over the news ages ago.

It’s dishonest and manipulative how many Democrat surrogates twist the story to one where having a Swiss account means hiding money, and it’s also very sad that people eat it up without exercising a little independent thought.

Great. You have an impression from television.

I know delegates who are there in person.
True, in-person accounts are bound to differ from what we may see on television. The latter is interested in giving us the highlight speakers rather than routine business and is apt to focus more on the cheers and emotional facial expressions than the not-so-excited delegates. After all, it’s entertainment (and ratings).

The better question might be which party has more minorities and women in positions of power.

I saw a lot of ethnic diversity in positions of power at the RNC. Not so much at the DNC, yet. In fact, I can’t think of one rousing speech by a minority at the DNC that can beat Condoleeza Rice, Susannah Martinez, Marco Rubio and the others.

I’ll remember those speeches for a long time, not because of their talking points, but because the questions and issues they raised.

Havard-
Why do you even think we are having this discussion. We are talking about a war of words, not of action or reality.

Bill C.-
We should vote for Barack because Bush made a mess.
